Wow, the systems are way down this week. Is there anything special about this week which would cause this? An after-holiday period?

Its funny/annoying to see all anti-Nintendo trolls on NeoGAF/GameFAQs (which are equally bad) claiming that Nintendo is doomed, ignoring the fact that ALL systems saw sharp drops.

Gunman Clive 3DS has outsold the iOS version (Android version still on top)

"But, but, i was told iOS is the future and eShop sucks!"

Also, nice about Android sales despite the pervasive belief that "the majority of Android users are dirty pirates" among developers.

The Top 30 (32 if you count Pokemon and Inazuma Eleven as separate) selling games of 2012 in Japan:
Entire top 100 was already available two weeks ago. Why is this cropped to 30 list making rounds as "news" full two weeks after? I saw it on a lot of sites recently.

No PS Vita games cracked the top 30.
It had 2 games in top 100.

I don't visit NeoGAF anymore because it's trash (especially if you don't like seeing Nintendo bashers, which is most of the site), and I didn't see anyone else post a list.

Nintendo posts $160M net income,cuts 3DS/Wii U/NDS/Wii forecasts:
Quote
Nintendo 3DS hardware: 12.71 million
 Nintendo 3DS software: 39.56 million
 NSMB2: 5.96 million
Animal Crossing: New Leaf: 2.73 million

 Wii U hardware: 3.06 million
 Wii U software: 11.69 million
 NSMBU: 2.01 million
 Nintendo Land: 2.33 million

 Wii hardware: 3.53 million
 Wii software: 45.08 million
Mario Party 9: over 1 million

 Nintendo DS hardware: 2.15 million
 Nintendo DS software: 30.24 million
Pokemon Black and White 2: 7.63 million

Wii U software tie rate is better than i thought. I am one of the people who bought four retail games for my Wii U. Glad i am not the only one.

I wish I paid more attention to my economics class, but it seems that the company did okay in these reported 9 months?

The 3DS is now around 30 million units.  So by its 2 year anniversary, it'll be close to surpassing the N64's lifetime total of 33 million.  Shows that Nintendo is still a powerhouse in the handheld market and that the people saying Nintendo lost the handheld audience to smartphones really don't know what the **** they're talking about.

Looking at these 3DS numbers, it really is amazing how Nintendo manages to turn things around again and again and again.

And each time analysts who got TOLD keep saying that it's "just a fluke", it was "lightning in a bottle", "Nintendo is it's own unpredictable market", "you can't analyze Nintendo".

Then what good you're for if you outrightly refuse to include the biggest agent into your equation only because it doesn't fit.

Yeah, they never seem to realize that people buy Nintendo consoles for actual Nintendo games that can't be bought else where.  It doesn't matter how popular Angry Birds might be on smartphones, if people want to play the newest Mario game, they'll have to buy a 3DS.

Doesn't exactly require rocket science to figure out.

But 30 million units sold could be 60 million units. Its selling good but it still probably isn't at Nintendo's expectations in the west either if they still had to cut its forecast.

Its the same with the Wii U. Though will the lack of hype nearing launch and somewhat lousey software line up anyone could have told them the chances of them hitting the 5.5 million sold by march was slim.

Still all things considered really good. Wonder how the investors and thew market will react.

So the Wii U has a 2.4 attach rate of games that aren't NSMBU and Nintendoland AKA first party.  That's actually pretty impressive.

I have to counter that because if memory serves in this point of the DS lifetime it has not sold 30 million.

On the WiiU the 5.5 Million goal is Nintendos fault.  eShop should have seen regular releases and we should have had at least a couple good games a month in "Launch Window."

I agree that Nintendo should have had more "big" games during the launch window (or at least spread out).  I really think they should have fought harder for ports of the games that are coming in February and March on the PS360.  I don't know if it would have done anything for their bottom line, but they would not have had to apologize about the lack of games right now.

True, at least have some type of parity with the other platforms. I mean Konami is a company based in Japan, and Platnium Games also where Nintendo has a strong presence in the market, and still Nintendo could not manage to bring MGSR to Wii U, slacking.

So it seems the original reports for sales for Epic Mickey 2 were wrong.  It sounds like they were at 520,000 sold in 2012.  That is still not good, but much better than the original 270,000 that was reported.

So obviously sales won't pick up until bigger high profile games like Pikmin and Yoshi come out. Beyond that though, what kind of game is going to be the runaway hit that really helps carry the Wii U? Or will Nintendo come up with one of those at all?

Last gen it was Brain Age, and Nintendogs for the DS. Wii sports, and Wii fit for the Wii.

My guess is a Skylanders type game with figures, most likely a version of Pokemon or even Smash Bros. For that quick casual boom a title like the non-traditional games listed above are going to be what's needed, cause if Nintendogs is any indication the sequels will be ignored big time.

Not exactly fresh but here's more of the 3rd quarter fiscal report.

http://www.nintendo.co.jp/ir/en/library/events/130131summary/index.html

This is an outline of the report with revised forecasts. Nintendo expects an operating loss which is sad news. They are able to forecast a net income due in part to foreign currency exchanges.

http://www.nintendo.co.jp/ir/en/library/events/130131/index.html

Here's Iwata's presentation. A lot of the interesting bits have been chopped up and put in to little news bites all over the 'net, but I think it's still worthwhile to read the whole thing if you have the time. Of particular interests are the hardware market share graphs. I was aware of Europe treating the Playstation favorably but never had any idea of the percentage.
