Especially because the game itself is in English, right? The charts call it "Subtitled Edition", so I'm guessing the voices are still in the original English but with Japanese subtitles.  That means Americans stationed in Japan would have no problem playing it.
That's correct. There is a "Dubbed Edition" being released in a couple of weeks (still not on Wii).

Press Release Source: Nintendo On Monday November 29, 2010, 9:03 am EST
REDMOND, Wash.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- When confronted with a wide range of Black Friday retail options, U.S. holiday shoppers again turned to Nintendo. Nintendo sold 900,000 combined units in the Nintendo DS™ family of systems and 600,000 Wii™ consoles between Sunday, Nov. 21, and Saturday, Nov. 27, according to the company’s internal sales estimates.

“U.S. shoppers bought about 9,000 Nintendo hardware systems nonstop for every hour of every day during the week of Black Friday,” said Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime. “For the past several years, consumers have decided that Nintendo defined both top value and all-inclusive entertainment, and that sentiment continues again at the start of this shopping season.”

DS is down from last year, but the Wii is up a little

Once-hot Nintendo Wii now struggling for sales
The video-game console has fallen to No. 3 from No. 1 in U.S. sales this year, and two game makers say they'll focus on competitors. But the company's U.S. chief insists there's still a significant market.

I guess they wouldn't grab heads if they wrote something mild like the Wii is in a natural downturn of the end of it's life cycle.

I love the example they cited for low Wii sales is a mon-n-pop located right next to a (relatively large) Radio Shack in a strip mall.

Also, in terms of consoles, it's 2nd at worst and probably first for the year. Why do I expect better from the MSM...

MSM lost any video game credibility they had when they started citing VG Chartz and their made-up numbers as sources.

New Super Mario Bros. Wii Tops Four Million
First quadruple platinum title for Wii, reports Enterbrain.

Wii has had a few triple platinum titles. But a quadruple platinum title? That honor eluded the system, until this week.

Famitsu.com reports today that New Super Mario Bros. Wii has crossed the 4 million mark in domestic sales. Enterbrain's latest sales results put the game at 4,001,276 units as of Sunday.

New Super Mario Bros. Wii became the Wii's best selling game back in March as it closed in on the 3.5 million mark. It is now the system's first game to cross the four million mark.

The feat comes just ahead of the game's December 3 one year anniversary.

That makes for 16.7 Million Units sold WW as of the end of September 2010.

It disappoints me that a game that (IMO) bland has sold that much on the platform when there are so many better games on it, especially this year.  Hopefully (though not likely) DKCR surpasses it.

I think it's great to see, I'd be disappointed if it weren't selling. New Super Mario Brothers Wii is a fun game that anyone can play, and it's also a perfect family game, I've not come across anyone who didn't want to try it out. That's more than I can say for something like Donkey Kong Country Returns, which really only appeals to fans of that series.

I would be shocked if DKCR makes it to 1 million in Japan (although I hope it will), and there isn't a snowball's chance in hell of it reaching 16 million worldwide. I like the series, I just don't see it doing well enough to pass a juggernaut like NSMBW.

NSMBW is a fun game, that is one of the reasons it has done so well.

NSMBW is bland compared to its predecessors, SMW and SMB3 but those were over a decade ago, now people are just hungry for anything like that. It'd probably have sold even more had it been on par with SMB3.

NSMB Wii just kills NSMB for the DS.  The DS game was bland and uninteresting.  I thought the Wii game felt much more legitimate, like it was a real entry in the 2D Mario series and not just a nostalgia game.  It isn't SMW or SMB3 good but the Super Mario Galaxy games are the only Wii games I can think of where Nintendo topped the previous entries in a franchise.  NSMB Wii didn't have to be the best 2D Mario game, just something I felt was on par with the rest of the series and it was.

Though I think NSMB Wii works really well as a single player game.  The whole hook was supposed to be the multiplayer but I found that the more people were playing the worse the game got.  It turned into this sort of random chaos where luck is valued more than skill.  It reminded me a lot of why I don't like Mario Kart anymore.  Nintendo seems to think that this sort of thing is great for bringing together people of all skill levels but I find it just punishes good players.  Though that multiplayer I hate is probably why the game sold so huge.

DKCR's sales probably will depend on how fun the game is in multiplayer. If it can channel the NSMBWii multiplayer fun just right then it will catch on.

I'm hoping the next DKCR will include a 4-player mode. I've been wanting that since the N64 days.

Good for Mario Kart Wii cracking the 3 million mark. Any clue how much Wii Sports Resort is up to?

Yikes!  I believe Graces F did better in its first week than Graces did in its lifetime.

It's a really bad sign of what could happen with The Last Story, that's for sure.  I don't like our chances of getting these Wii JRPGs here in North America if they're not even selling in Japan.

On the bright side, I wonder if this means we'll see the PS3 version of Graces here in North America.  Unfortunately, Namco-Bandai is so random with which Tales titles they'll bring over.

Actually if The Last Story does poorly in Japan that would probably increase it's chances of localization.  Nintendo is a company that likes to make money off their investments and considering the huge amount of money Nintendo is putting into this game, Iwata is going to want every sale he can get.  This is the same reason why I'm still expecting Xenoblade to still make it here as well and since it's still listed on NOA's release list as Monando, that still a good sign.

NOA has never not published a big budget Nintendo game before.  Of course that's because all of Nintendo's big budget titles are usually Mario, Zelda, Smash Bros, or Metroid related.  But even though these are both new IP's, I still don't see NOA refusing to publish them since I imagine Iwata is going to force them considering the amount of money he spent on both.

I think that whether or not The Last Story and/or XenoBlade are released in North America will depend on what else Nintendo have planned for 2011. If they don't have anything else to fill the release schedule leading up to Zelda, then they will probably use the RPGs to fill the spots.

1up's posted the November NPDs:

1.  Call of Duty: Black Ops
2.  Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood
3.  Just Dance 2
4.  Madden NFL 11
5.  Fable III
6.  Donkey Kong Country Returns
7.  Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit
8.  Gran Turismo 5
9.  NBA 2K11
10.  Wii Fit Plus

I have to admit being a little perplexed by how high some games hit (Fable III and Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood), as well as how low some games hit (DKCR and GT5).  Plus, man does Wii Fit Plus have long legs for that kind of game...   :confused;

I'm disappointed that DKCR sold as low as it apparently did, though with all these multiplatform games being combined now we don't know how well it really did).  It's a great game, probably my Wii Game of the Year.
