It's still conjecture and speculation unless you have some numbers to support your claims. All systems have failure rates and repeat buyers, so in the end I think it all evens out. Besides, since we're simply talking sales numbers and not userbase, I'm not sure what your point is.
It's all about the sales numbers.  We were never talking about userbase.  Why are you trying to flip this around?  PS2 sold around 150 million consoles.  A good number of those were second or third systems.  With the Wii, a lot less are second systems.  The PS2 did not have an account assigned to it like the Wii.  With the Wii, there is an account assigned to it and so buying a new system means leaving your account behind.  So there's less likelyhood that a person would buy a second Wii.  So the Wii won't have many more sales like the the PS2 due to less people wanting or needing a second system.  That is why the Wii will never surpass the PS2's sales.

I believe a major part of the controversy over PS2's "shipped" numbers was not just that people were buying second and third systems, it was that Sony was counting replacement systems in their "shipped" numbers.

That would mean that 1 person could buy a single PS2, it would break, most likely from DRE and they would ship it out to Sony who would then send out a replacement unit in it's place and count that as another unit shipped. it might break again and then rinse wash repeat.
Magically you have an extra 30+% added to your total units shipped over the last 8-10 years.

I thought you were trying to turn this around. Why a system sells doesn't really matter, the PS2 still has 150 million. I think that the number of replacement PS2 systems bought is negligible in the big picture, and that quite a few people also bought more than one Wii. Can these claims be substantiated? No more or less than your claims, so it's all conjecture. It's just people making excuses, trying to devalue the sales numbers of the PS2.

I think 3rd party support is actually getting better. We got feature and release parity on CoD Black Ops. Goldeneye is turning out to be a top notch shooter exclusively for Wii. We also have Epic Mickey. Don't forget that the flagship SKU for Guitar Hero titles is the Wii as well.

It's not the best support in a long shot but it is better than even a year ago (delayed titles like Modern Warfare, gimped versions, no releases on Wii, ports of old games...NPC titles... ;) ).
COD3 and COD WAW both essentially launched with all of the other console versions as well (COD3 was a Wii launch title, so it was off a little bit), I think this has more to do with Treyarch than anything else...and Guitar Hero is a sinking ship.

I think the Wii has better third-party support than the GameCube did. I was trying to think of third-party exclusives on the GameCube that I liked, and I can't even think of any I played. On the Wii I can think of at least ten third-party exclusives I've enjoyed, and there are probably some I'm forgetting.

Plus the Wii hasn't seen a proper hardware revision, which the PS2 did. The only thing that's ever changed about the Wii console since its launch is that Nintendo added a few new colors, but that's it. There's no new and improved "slim" model or anything like that. There are some people who would buy a new console just to get it in their favorite color, but I think for the most part most consumers who already owned a white Wii console would probably just stick with that versus spending $200 just on a color change...

But I don't really know all that was changed from the original PS2 to the one Sony released later on which was a good deal smaller. Being smaller was a plus, but didn't it also add in some new features or something?

The slim included the Ethernet plug as standard. So it was internet ready out of the box. Even came with a disc and manual to help you get it online. I never used it since it none of those titles interested me on the system. I don't think it came with an HDD.

The PS2 Slim not only didn't have a hard drive, but it dropped support for the one SquareEnix was selling with Final Fantasy XI.

That sucks... sounds kinda like how the DSi dropped support for Guitar Hero, which needed the GBA slot for the Fret peripheral. I guess the lesson here is revisions aren't always for the best.

Didn't the slim PS2 also remove the cooling fans, which increased the possibility of the system overheating?

When Sony created the PS2 slim they basically turned it into a PS1 in aesthetic terms. The PS2 did not have a cooling fan because the components did not generate as much heat as the older PS2. Iam not sure how often the PS2 slim over heated, but I have heared that they are pretty durable by word of mouth.

I remember some concerns about this cropping up. Mine can get pretty hot. I don't remember how hot my original PS2 got so I don't have a frame of reference for comparison though.

Hey Sega, remember when your then unempolyed(?) Sega of America PR dumbasses said Platinum games were best suited to only the PS3/360 audiences? Kirby's Epic Yarn is beating this game in Japan.

1. They're looking at international numbers, we don't know those.
2. Platinum games aren't exactly big sellers anyway.

As a Nintendo fan I've been feeling that way for the last 10 years or so. 3rd party support is a joke, but at the same time its also depressing because unfortunately that joke is on us.
is your sanity...

We got some NPD numbers from Reggie today

Quote
Fils-Aime cited NPD Group figures which said Nintendo has so far sold 43.1 million Nintendo DS hardware units and 30.4 million Wiis in the U.S. alone. The Xbox 360 trails in U.S. sales with 21.9 million units, while the PSP has 17.7 million sales and the PlayStation 3 has 13.5 million sales in the country. The exec added that the Wii Balance Board sold 12 million units since its 2008 launch alongside Wii Fit.

Dayuuuum!!!!

PS3 has a 2 year headstart and only a 1.5 million unit lead in the US? I'm surprised there isn't more support for Balance board games over expensive PS3 games....

but let me summarize that for easy reading: (all in millions)
NDS - 43.1
WII - 30.4
360 - 21.9
PSP - 17.7
PS3 - 13.5
WBB - 12
