Yeah, I hate .5
New features like, less bugs??!?!?!
I was never a fan of the Halo series, and the LOD bug and other graphical shortcuts didn't improve my view of them any.
I mean...it's a console game, PC games ship with bugs normally because of the diffrence between hardware that is impossible to predict, so patches are ok for PC, but there is no reason a console game should have a version number past x.0 much less x.5, apparently if they jump past .4 you have to pay for it. Then again...the first Xbox is basically a PC anyway...

IR as in infra-red? as just like my remote control? as in when I walk infront of you or obsruct direct view of the console from the controller, you no longer have a connection?

Don't you think it would atleast be blue-tooth or some other kind of radio tech?

The IR is likely for the DVD remote.

New Controller Pic

I don't know what stage of development this picture was taken during, but I thought the controllers for Xbox360 were supposed to be 'wireless', and the 'circle of light'(X360 menu button) in the middle is also missing.

whats the deal?

The deal is that it's much easier to make a controller work, then make it wireless, than to get two features running simultaneously.

SPOnG received word that this is the version of the pad as shipped with the long-awaited updated SDK units for Xbox 360, with some studios receiving upgrade packs of late.

The button is named the 'Xbox 360 Button'. Really. And will be the defining difference between Xbox of old and the progression of the console into an ever-growing Live community.

“It gives you instant access, globally, from whatever you’re doing, to your Xbox360 menus,” explained our source, speaking under terms of strict anonymity. “They’re going to show it at the E3 conference in all its glory, but in a nutshell, if you’re watching a DVD, you’re still signed into your Friends list, so you can still be invited into games, discussions and other Live events. You’re always connected to the community. It’s like the interactive button for digital TV. And this really is the key factor to bear in mind with the upgraded Live system. It will be a lot more like a digital TV experience, just more interactive. Microsoft is looking at the viability of Live competing with the set-top box and this Xbox 360 button in the key to this.”

HOWEVER, it is massive! If it was the size of the ps2, I would be very appealing from a view stand point.

I was looking at the rumored price and really if Xbox360 does everything it says it does then $399 isn't a bad price for the system.  Its basically a powerful computer without the windows OS, and specifically designed for games.  The problem is when you try to sell the system without the harddrive for $299.  I think the added benefit of the hard drive is definately worth $100, but why split your market up?  $299 isn't even at mass market price to reach all audience.

If I had to predict the price I would say we were looking at $249 without harddrive and $349 with harddrive.

However I don't understand why MS won't just release it $399 one system with the hard drive make the money off early adopters then when the Nintendo and Sony systems are released drop the price to be more competitive.  When you drop the price take Halo 2.5 off the harddrive and include it as a download game or something for an extra $25 dollars.

That would make everyone happy, early adopters, and late purchasers.  Also it wouldn't split the market up.

"Free Xbox Live weekends"

That's pretty neat though I think having the free period on weekends isn't really fair to the "Gold" users.  That's kind of the peak time and I imagine the servers would be more busy as a result.  So if you pay for Live shouldn't you get the best time periods for yourself?  If a "Gold" player wants to play without "Silver" players eating up resources they have to limit themselves to weekdays.

In fact I don't really see many advantages to paying for the Gold service anyway.  It's obviously better but it's not that much better.  Personally if I bought an Xbox 360 I would just stick with the Silver package.  Still I think the idea of having a barebones free service is cool but there needs to be more incentive to upgrade.

I think it's cool how access to MMOs doesn't require the Gold service.  PSO on the Xbox was such BS.  You had to pay for Live AND pay extra for PSO.

So wait, if there are only four channels (i.e. frequencies) for the wireless controllers, does this mean no Xbox 360 LAN parties?
Why must all things be so bright? Why can things not appear only in hues of brown! I am so serious about this! Dull colors are the future! The next generation! I will never accept a world with such bright colors! It is far too childish! I will rage against your cheery palette with my last breath!

Ian Sane:  All MS really has to do is give Gold Members free bonus maps, and downloadable Demos and it would be worth the upgrade.

But I agree.  MS needs to do something to make the upgrade worth while otherwise people will stay Silver members and then MS will once again lose a ton of money on this network.

Completely Barebones online play is what I want.  I want something that connects very easily and find people for me to play simply, and pretty much thats it.

That is a very powerful CPU!  3 PowerPC cores at 3.2 GHz, and 2 threads per core?  If the Revolution and PS3 will have more power, we are talking about monster consoles.

I bolded everything you get with your Gold subscription exclusively

no multiplayer online gameplay w/o Gold subscription
does that mean you can get on LIVE for free, but you can't play anyone w/o paying to play?

wouldn't that be enough for you to upgrade your service to Gold??

I think it means that if I have a friend over and we're playing on one Xbox 360 with two controllers and I want both of us to play with my account at the same time I need to have the Gold service.

Then what does "Free Xbox Live weekends" mean?  That feature makes no sense without the ability to actually play online unless you can just download stuff on weekends.  The online achievements and such doesn't make much sense otherwise as well.

If you think about it, why would they say Free Xbox Live weekends? They don't charge you per day... cost of weekends should make no difference, it's the availability of Live on weekends that's being touted here, not its price.

I'm interpreting this as "you can only play online on weekends if you have Silver... want to play any other day? Get Gold."

"I was just saying that free weekends makes no sense if you have to have Gold to play online."

Oh. Yeah, I guess I should have added "... except on weekends" to my comment. Sorry for the confusion.
