DuckTales Remastered Coming to Wii U
« on: March 22, 2013, 01:14:10 PM »

The classic is reborn by WayForward this summer.

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/news/33619

DuckTales Remastered, a re-imagining of the NES classic, has been announced for a summer 2013 release on Wii U. The game, developed by WayForward, will feature hand-drawn sprites against 3D backgrounds. In addition, voice actor Alan Young will be returning to voice Scrooge McDuck.

The game, introduced at PAX East 2013, will feature some content from the original game, but also new content such as new areas like Scrooge's Money Bin and the Museum.  The original songs from the game will be remastered as well.

The original 1989 NES title has long been on the Virtual Console wishlist for many fans, and is considered to be one of the most beloved games on the system. In particular it is known for it's pogo-style combat and incredible soundtrack.

The trailer was posted by Capcom Europe on their official YouTube page, but quickly pulled. The trailer that was pulled is shown below.

I trust WayForward will make a fun remake that will keep most of the charm of the original. But them's some big shoes to fill. I hope it doesn't end up like Turtles in Time.

Also as long as the license is being renewed how about the original game on Virtual Console? Huh? Huh? You like money don't you Capcom? I'll double dip no problem.

Dumb? I love the theme song (and I know I am not in the minority on that), it's easily one of the best cartoon theme songs.

I dont see the original getting on the VC though, although I would love to be wrong. I just think that not enough copies would sell at $6 a piece to justify it. As for the remake, I plan to get it ASAP (not sure if it will be on Xbox Live Arcade or eShop, part of it depends on if I have a Wii U by the time it comes out).

Cool! Never played the original but its legendary status has always had me interested.

Still say they should have added DuckTales 2 to the Wii Virtual Arcade.

Why is this a remake? The original game is like 15 minutes long.

It just hit me.

Remember that shovel game that former Wayworfard people are doing?

Mechanics is very similar. Scrooge jumping on his stick and knight jumping on a shovel.

Hopefully this doesn't turn out as stomach-churning-ly  awful as that Turtles in Time remake was, though with WayForward at the helm it should at least be...decent.  Thankfully, WayForward only had to follow the design of the original, or I'd be concerned about the gameplay given that company's spotty history.  I just wish they put nearly as much attention into their kind-of "blah" 3D backgrounds, as their 2D character sprites look as good as ever.

Hopefully they announce a Vita version as well in the future, as that game would look gorgeous on that screen. I'll just have to "settle" for my HD TV via my PS3.  :P:

Given that Disney even allowed this, I wonder if this means they're planning on reviving the DuckTales franchise sometime in the near future.  :D

Technically they already did it because if we assume Darkwing Duck is part of the series and it had a new comic book series a few years ago.

Reword to say reviving it in a format that most people care about (I half-kid, but comics are not really mainstream and even the best selling comic of 2012 sold less than 500K copies).

To reword what TJ Spyke just said in a less-douche-y way, I meant reviving it in animated form. Back in the day, Disney had some big film plans for DuckTales that never went through because Treasure of the Lost Lamp underperformed in the theaters. I'd love to see a new DuckTales TV series or film, so long as it wasn't one of Disney's half-assed CG TV abominations.

I look forward to yelling after deaths using much more advanced vocabulary than I could back when I played the original.  My neighbors will definitely be knocking to thank me.  Wish it was coming to 3DS too.  Then I could take my rage with me outdoors.

I didnt say it in a douchie way, I said it in a honest way. Very few people buy comics. Even Power Rangers Lost Galaxy (which aired in 1999) averages nearly 700K viewers on The CW's Saturday morning Vortexx block. So reviving DuckTales as a cartoon, movie, video games, etc. would reach far more people than a comic ever would (hell, I bet most people didnt even know there was a Darkwing Duck comic).

You know what is sad.  Their was a Ducktales reboot comic before the Darkwing Duck one I thumb through a few.

Hopefully this announcement will mean we'll finally start seeing Capcom's Disney games added to the Virtual Console.  If this game is being made it means Capcom has Disney rights again, so hopefully all those classics can finally be added.  Since Capcom recently added the original Marvel Vs Capcom and Marvel Super Heroes to Xbox Live and PSN after they made Marvel Vs Capcom 3 since they had the rights again, there's hope they'll finally do the same with all their old Disney games to the Virtual Console.
