Rayman Legends Is a Wii U Exclusive
« on: August 15, 2012, 08:21:40 AM »

Ubisoft's European Gamescom trailer for the game ends with the words "Coming Christmas 2012 Exclusively on Wii U."

http://www.nintendoworldreport.com/news/31347

Ubisoft's Rayman Legends is set to be a Wii U exclusive when it releases. Ubisoft revealed this in their latest video trailer for the game, unveiled at the current Gamescom videogame trade fair in Cologne, Germany. The trailer displays the declaration "Coming Christmas 2012 Exclusively on Wii U" at the very end of the video along with a view of what could be the game's boxart. It shows off multiplayer gameplay utilizing the Wii U GamePad's potential for asymmetrical cooperative multiplayer (the ability to provide one participant special abilities and features they can use to benefit the whole group.)

However, even if the game is an exclusive when it launches on the Wii U, there is still the chance it could come to other consoles at a later date, making it more appropriately considered as a timed exclusive. At E3 2012, Ubisoft themselves were unclear over whether the game was a hands-down Wii U exclusive or whether there was a chance it might go multiplatform eventually. It's worth noting that the game's predecessor, 2011's Rayman Origins, was a multiplatform release.

A glooming peace this morning with it brings;
The sun, for sorrow, will not show his head:
Go hence, to have more talk of these sad things;
Some shall be pardon'd, and some punished:
For never was a story of more woe
Than this of Sega and her Mashiro.

A Christmas release? Hmm, I was hoping it would be a launch game.

I agree that the game will be a timed exclusive. It doesn't seem like Ubisoft to have a sequel be a system exclusive.

I think you said it right in the last paragraph. We all know it will hit other consoles at some time - it's Rayman, after all.

However, I don't care if it does when I really think about it. I just think it's nice that it will launch as a Wii U exclusive. It's nice to see publishers showing faith in the Wii U in ways like this.

Well, we'll see how long this lasts.  A pity, because I'm not buying a Wii U at launch.  Maybe I'll be able to play the game on other platforms early next year along with all the other games I wanted to play this year that were delayed into that time period.

With the extra features and the fact it could also be downloadable from day 1, could make this most popular on Wii U.
Man, it's been a while since a triple-A 3rd party game was (timed or otherwise) exclusive to Nintendo and on-par graphically with all other systems!
Maybe Resi 4 was the last one?

Be interesting if on the eventual Vita version if they mapped the second player stuff to the back touch of the Vita.  Have some real pat your head and rub your tummy stuff going on there.

If they ended up doing that, they'd have to change the mechanics a bit so that just tapping on the back touch activated whatever you could normally interact with next.  I've played Vita games like Escape Plan that use the back touch for precision and timing-based puzzles, and it's just too hard to consistently hit a precise spot on the back touch.

Honestly, though, I'd rather they just scrapped the silly Wii U co-op option for the other versions.  It was designed for the Wii U controller, even if I did buy the Wii U version I'd never have anyone to play Co-Op with (I don't live with anyone who games), and it's just not a feature I care about.  I'd rather have online Co-op for the other versions.

Third party games go FROM Nintendo platforms TO other platforms.  Not the other way around.  Of course it won't remain exclusive.

I adored Origins for Wii. It would be cool if they were to eventually release this for 3DS as well. I'd very much like to pick it up.

Christmas 2012?  I guess Europe hasn't been infected by the PC bug.  In America, it would be Holiday 2012.

I've never played a Rayman game.  This'll be my first, unless I buy the previous one for my 360.

Christianity isn't the only religion, just so you know. Holiday is more accurate anyways since it describes a couple of months.

The game looks good, though financial issues will prevent me from checking it out til at least 2013.

What if it actually is coming out dec 25th? lol.

I'm agnostic but personally I have no problem with it being called the Christmas months or Christmas period. Some people in the UK though seem to get really bothered by it. I don't understand how people could get upset about something so innocuous. I wonder if those same people would bemoan the fact that in Pakistan many fast food restaurants provide post-Ramadan special offers?

One of the most interesting Wii U games to me. Definitely adore the art style. The game is a good fit for the Wii U. The exclusivity should attract some attention to the title, and platformers usually do well on Nintendo systems. Then again, the game could be on any other platform and I'd play it.
