We raise a glass to three years of motion control.

November 19, 2006...the day that gaming changed forever.  Yes, it was only three years ago today that the "Little Console That Could" had its worldwide launch in North America, triggering its ascension to becoming a pop culture phenomenon.

Nintendo World Report would just like to wish you a happy third birthday, little buddy!  Thanks for keeping the gaming world on its toes.

If you'd like to step into the wayback machine for a moment, check out all of NWR's Wii launch coverage, which includes some side-splitting tales of woe as the NWR staffers attempted to acquire the console that Jonny Metts claimed you were crazy to pre-order.

Also be sure to check out our Wii Third Anniversary Special for a retrospective of the console's third year.

Care to reminisce about days gone by?  Yearning to get all misty-eyed over the good times we've had?  Simply looking to troll Wii third-party support?  You can do all of that and more by simply clicking on the Talkback link above!

Days gone by...

the memories that surface first are negative.

1) cant load smash, had to send in my wii
2)couldnt load super mario galaxy, had to send in my wii
3)Pixels of death, not sending in my wii
4)controllers, either port for nunchuks or nunchucks or both.  Nintendo doesnt fix nunchuks, and they want 30 dollars to fix my controllers IF they can find anything wrong.  Not sending in my controllers.
5)lost awesome Mii created characters due to sending in console.

5) Happiness and Joy
6) Great game library
7) still need to play zelda (lost save on multiple sendings off to nintendo)
8) love the system, but where is my pokemon / nintendogs style trainer?

Hah, I remember how I used to harass the staff members about their pre-order comments. But looking back, at the time no one expected the Wii to be a huge success. I expected it to perform well, but never in the manner we see today.

I wasn't at launch, which made me say because everyone seemed to be having fun with their launches. I finally was able to play the Wii at the end of 2006 with my friends and family, and it was one of the most memorable experiences of my life. The impact was so huge that since then, the Wii became my favorite console ever. Yes, it has a lot of issues, but it was able to do something that few consoles were able to do: bring my family together :) . Corny I know, but that's how I am.
