That's very ambitious, almost to the point where it's egotistical.
Still, I think it's possible. Word of mouth is key, and Nintendo has almost everyone at least trying to check it out. For Nintendo, that should be all they need.
We all know of how great Nintendo games can be, but the fact is, a lot of people don't. Mario Party 8 is coming out soon, and I see that as one of the many killer-apps they need (and can make) to start turning everyone into believers. Light-Gun games would help a lot too, as well as music games and the like. Still, Mario Party 8 will help the most in my opinion. It won't help greatly until around Christmas, but rest assured it'll spurn massive sales.
Why, you ask? Parents don't like to buy the conventional videogame systems. They like to buy useful products, like a new camera, phone, or ipod. Something that the person will actually use for a long time to come, but not distract them from spending time with their parents. The Wii is a useful product. We are all aware of the cool little benefits the Wii provides. But more importantly, when was the last time a game came out that parents and children both wanted to play? A game that let them bond with their kid? When was your last family night? The year of the rat?!
Mario Part 8 is right up their alley too. Making the switch into videogames is that much easier when it's a board game. And that coupled interest will make it a lot easier for parents to buy a videogame system in general.
Then there are parents who are going to be shopping for consoles anyways this holiday season, and Nintendo needs to be ready. Parents need to know what Mario Party is and how it is played. After that, parents will be like "A game that actually looks really fun, lets me bond with my child, and isn't violent? OK, but how much is the system....250?! And it comes with a free game (and possibly some other promotion)?! But wait.......Timmy wanted sports games and action games. OK...hmmm......I see football and baseball.....but what about action games?....Wait, what is this? Super Smash Bros. Brawl....hey.......that has all the same characters from this game?! This must not be incredibly violent either!"
*Cha-Ching*
I am personally looking forward to Mario Party 8. It is actually the main reason I want to buy a Wii (and I haven't played TP yet!). It sounds like the most ridiculous drinking game ever. I mean, its predecessors were already ridiculous, but now players' drunkenness will come into effect like never before and actually be recognizable in a very real and very hilarious way!
Wow.....*scrolls up*....WTF did I just type?
