That's very ambitious, almost to the point where it's egotistical.

Still, I think it's possible. Word of mouth is key, and Nintendo has almost everyone at least trying to check it out. For Nintendo, that should be all they need.

We all know of how great Nintendo games can be, but the fact is, a lot of people don't. Mario Party 8 is coming out soon, and I see that as one of the many killer-apps they need (and can make) to start turning everyone into believers. Light-Gun games would help a lot too, as well as music games and the like. Still, Mario Party 8 will help the most in my opinion. It won't help greatly until around Christmas, but rest assured it'll spurn massive sales.

Why, you ask? Parents don't like to buy the conventional videogame systems. They like to buy useful products, like a new camera, phone, or ipod. Something that the person will actually use for a long time to come, but not distract them from spending time with their parents. The Wii is a useful product. We are all aware of the cool little benefits the Wii provides. But more importantly, when was the last time a game came out that parents and children both wanted to play? A game that let them bond with their kid? When was your last family night? The year of the rat?!

Mario Part 8 is right up their alley too. Making the switch into videogames is that much easier when it's a board game. And that coupled interest will make it a lot easier for parents to buy a videogame system in general.

Then there are parents who are going to be shopping for consoles anyways this holiday season, and Nintendo needs to be ready. Parents need to know what Mario Party is and how it is played. After that, parents will be like "A game that actually looks really fun, lets me bond with my child, and isn't violent? OK, but how much is the system....250?! And it comes with a free game (and possibly some other promotion)?! But wait.......Timmy wanted sports games and action games. OK...hmmm......I see football and baseball.....but what about action games?....Wait, what is this? Super Smash Bros. Brawl....hey.......that has all the same characters from this game?! This must not be incredibly violent either!"

*Cha-Ching*

I am personally looking forward to Mario Party 8. It is actually the main reason I want to buy a Wii (and I haven't played TP yet!). It sounds like the most ridiculous drinking game ever. I mean, its predecessors were already ridiculous, but now players' drunkenness will come into effect like never before and actually be recognizable in a very real and very hilarious way!

Wow.....*scrolls up*....WTF did I just type?
"Hey....

I'm not a whore, ok? Really.....really, I'm not.

But, if she slips man....if she slips, I slide!"

If your talking about Wii shortages, then you shouldn't be all that surprised. If you take roughly 2/2.5x the amount of Wii Sports sales you have a pretty ggod estimation of how much the Wii is gonna sell that week. Its not an exact science or anything, but it does get you pretty close most of the time

But where's the April hardware manufacturing increase?

Especially since some think Nintendo's hitting big numbers:

The latest report from Lazard Capital Markets suggests that Wii production is close to 1.5 million units per month.

I think we'll start seeing it in MAY NPD and June MC.
I think it takes awhile for the actual hardware to make their way into the shipping channels and land at retail.

Let's not forget that Nintendo has the holidays plus several major game releases coming in the last half of the year.  It's possible that an increase in production would be mostly eaten up by stockpiling.
That's my opinion, not yours.

A lil bit of sales info from Australia

http://australianit.news.com.au
Quote

The console, which was launched in early December last year, also helped to triple Nintendo Australia's 2007 net profit to $6.4 million despite being on the market for barely a quarter of the year.

The company's most recent financial year closed on March 31, but that was enough time for Nintendo to sell close to 80,000 Wii consoles. Almost half of those consoles were sold in the four days after the Wii was launched on December 7, 2006.

The launch of the Wii consoles and new software titles propelled Nintendo Australia's sales revenue to $138.9 million during its 2007 financial year, up from $71.6 million in the previous corresponding period.

Australian LTD sales, presumably as of March 31:

360 - 160K
Wii - 80K
PS3 - 36K

I'm not sure how great this news is for Wii, but it really is horrible news for how GC has sold in AUS.
Quote

Australia console sales from launch to 31st July 2006

Consoles........................... Units
Playstation 2 ..................... 1,809,000
Game Boy Advance ............. 857,000
Xbox................................. 835,000
Nintendo DS ...................... 286,000
Playstation Portable ............ 181,000
Gamecube ......................... 161,000
Xbox 360 ........................... 80,000

Source: The Australian IT Today August 22 2006

GC was getting smoked in AUS, it was even outsold by the PSP about a year ago. But according to the Next-Gen #'s AUS is no longer Sonyland.

Meeting someone who owned a GC here is very rare.  People who ask you which console you own completely ignore the cube.  "So what do you own, an X-Box or PS2?"  That was always the way.  And the game selection reflected the poor hardware sales.  The cube area was a dark dank corner at the back of the store and was about 1 foot high and about twice as wide.

The PSP game situation is slowly improving in Japan, but I don't think it can ever catch up to the DS's momentum. I know if I had the choice between a $29.99 DS game with stylus control and a $39.99 PSP version of the same game with better graphics but no stylus interaction, then I would opt for the DS version every single time. The $10 makes a huge difference, and so basically buying three DS games gets you one for free compared to what you pay for the PSP... so the DS will always be ahead.

The PSP will find some success in exclusive games, but really I think everyone would prefer those games were for their PS2 and they only end up buying the PSP version because there isn't any alternative. That device can offer nothing that can't be done better on the PS2 or any other console out there.... If there were a PS2 and PSP version of the same game I would likewise opt for the PS2 version, and the PSP would only be my absolute last resort. I think that's the way many gamers are thinking, particularly in Japan...
is your sanity...

Chozo Ghost: you're quite right...the ship on PSP winning sailed a long time ago in Japan...once they pick a system, they stick with it.  That said, it must be a little encouraging for Sony to see a few games selling, at least the system could be profitable, which is the main thing from a business perspective.

Everything else about the charts is meh.  I think people are still buying PS3s over there for the same reason people bought N64s in the first year - potential.  They assume there will be good games in the future.  Of course, there's no guarantee the games will actually be good or that they'll even come out, but if you don't know what's going on, you just look at the name and assume that things will be great eventually, no matter what logic tells you.
That's my opinion, not yours.

What happened to Wii Play?  It went from #8 to off the chart in the span of one week.  Did they run out of Wii remotes again?
