Agreed. People don't understand that where they put their dollar is a vote as to what will come to the market in the future.

There aren't too many of them. If Nintendo actually made more 2D games for GameCube I would get them.  I don't think we should worry too much about the future of 2D games. If the industry heads in a direction that goes without 2D, there is not much we can do. I guess I would miss sprites, but I already have some of the best 2D games on the NES line, and also on GameBoy. I also don't think 2D gaming will get any better than Viewtiful Joe and Symphony of the Night.
