Wow, I haven't been subscribed to Nintendo Power in 3 years but this offer is just way to good.  Since most videogame CD's are released only in Japan it ends up costing me 20 dollars just to buy them from import websites so this is an amazing deal.

Plus for the Players Guide even though I wont use it for the game, I love looking at the offical artwork that appears in them.

Soundtrack... so tempting.  Maybe Nintendo will be nice and make it available if you've registered so many games.  Well they won't but it's a nice dream anyway.  Is the guide for just the Wii version or both versions?  I probably wouldn't matter but there was that rumour about the Wii version being completely flipped.

yah i noticed that and had to look at it again.  The last NP subscription I had was just after Melee so its about time to subscribe again.

$20 subscription
- $16.99 Guide
- $ ?. ?? CD

its just a no brainer here, as the bonus material easily costs more than the subscription and NP is a great magazine anyway ( time to add it to my collection, EGM and GfW)

Save the guide? Heheheheh sorry my friend, I know myself better than that. When I get stuck, if that guide is in my house, I WILL look inside it. And then I will be angry. This is how I maintain my proud "I beat games without guides" stance. I bought a guide once, swearing I wouldnt look inside, I just wanted it for collecting's sake. Then I peaked. And I peaked again. And again. Before I knew it, almost every difficult puzzle was done with and I had beaten the game much too quickly. I dont think I will ever be able to look at Hello Kitty's Rollerskate Rescue the same again.... After the first time, it was so easy! It was like a drug!! I couldnt stop!!! Kinda like opening a bag of your favorite chips and saying "OK,  I am only gonna eat ONE chip. ONLY one." Yeah. That'll work... So instead of burning pretty pictures, perhaps I'll give the guide to someone else. That is, if I end up getting NP. Given how much money I will be spending on the Wii, controllers, games and all I'm not so sure I will be able to cough up $20 more.... *sob*

HEY! This reminds me! Anyone remember that little cheaters book that came with the original Link to the Past? Remember how it was sealed off with a sticker, warning you that spoilers were within? I was able to resist temptation knowing that I would be "found out" if I used it. Perhaps Nintendo could do that with the entire guide? Just for me? Pretty please?

Easy... Follow the link given link, or call Nintendo, tell them you want to buy another year, and want the Zelda Twilight + CD soundtrack bonus.

The phone operator might be quick to dismiss the CD soundtrack, but *gently*, tell them to keep looking and reassure them it is there. It is there because I just ordered it over the phone.

Japanese versions of Zelda soundtracks typically DON'T loop tracks, which means the track goes by after 30sec and you hardly notice it and you're all angry cuz you miss out on the feel of playing game cuz you're WTF THAT'S IT? then you go thru the trouble of using the repeat function on your player but constantly hearing the unique beginning of the tracks mainly makes the feel of the track less smooth and just wish it played once more without interruption unlick pure suckage.

And I was so sure I was going to let my subscription run out again.  If I do let it run out, it'll be the second time I gave up on Nintendo Power...the first shortly after the GameCube came out, and now shortly after the Wii comes out.  Which isn't exactly ironic, but it's at least somewhat weird since you'd think I'd be more likely to subscribe when a new console is out, but it really depends on the resubscription bonuses, since I get my information via the Internet.

My original subscription began in Jan. 1991 when they gave out copies of Dragon Warrior for the NES.  That's what we need - full games.

At least these days you'd think they could pack some Wii demo discs with Nintendo Power.  I was hoping for GameCube demo discs...

Anyway, yeah.  Zelda.  Music.  Good stuff.  Every time the Zelda overworld theme is remixed for another game Koji Kondo should get another billion dollars.

Same here.  Of course, back then I didn't do it for the magazine, just for the Collectors Edition disc...

This time, though...since NP has gone from "bad Nintendo rag" to "Pretty Good Magazine Which I Actually Look Forward To Every Month", it'll be well worth it.

I am also glad I waited until a good bonus like this came along.  WOOT WOOT

To clarify, NP is a "bad Nintendo rag with 1 or 2 OK bonuses per generations and small chances to win their mail-in contests."  There isn't anything substantial to look forward to every month.  Only once a year. at best.

Granted, I first subscribed to get the SSBM Orchestra CD, and I won a Logitech Speedforce Wheel Package a couple months later.  But I've been holding on just to get some yearly bonus that justifies the $20 subscription and maybe a chance to win something neat.

The content is as shortlived as a daily visit to [insert boring Nintendo fansite here].

I saw that yesterday and I would have bought it but the soundtrack has only like 6 songs on it.  The Shield and Sword is plastic.  They look nice but for the price I want them either to be made out of metal or have a detailed Link figuring with them.  If it was $29.99 I could justify it.  Plus their box is good for keeping as a collectible but terrible for display.

Cool deal, thanks for the heads-up.

Also, if any of you are interested in the Zelda soundtrack but don't want to tempt yourselves by buying the guide, you can buy this collectible Zelda sword/shield replica set which comes with the exact same soundtrack... only downside is it costs $40 bucks, but total Zeldanerds might want this stuff anyway. Just thought I'd mention it.

Edit: Dangit, I made this post before I noticed this thread had 2 pages. Sorry btw, Ceric, the soundtracks for the NP offer and the replica set are identical.

Hm... I registered three things on Nintendo.com the other day, so I get three free issues of NP, plus I can get a full subscription for only $12. I wonder if that would still get me the guide and the soundtrack.

I might get the subscription, but the soundtrack only has 6 songs on it. I think I will wait for an import. Those are usually 2 disks.

Ooh, that would have been delicious. Yeah the soundtrack is on the short side, but I like six of the seven tracks on there.

How many tracks are on the CD?  I thought I heard it was only a partial soundtrack (I hope I'm wrong).  If it doesn't have the ending theme then I'm ripping my own!

I loved Player's Guides back in the day (we're talking early '90s).  The earliest ones that didn't deal with a specific game were cool (like the NES Game Atlas, Top Secret Passwords).  Super NES Guides were incredibly awesome - at least the first few (Mario Mania (which covered Super Mario World but had lots of other Mario info), A Link To The Past, I guess Super Metroid was cool too).

But at some point (sometime after Super Metroid) they didn't have as much original artwork and more factual errors...at least of the very few Player's Guides I saw after that.  At one point I wanted to collect the Player's Guides (hence my shelling out $100 Canadian for EarthBound at Canadian Tire even though I finished that game on a rental) but I didn't care anymore when it seemed like they were churning them out too quickly.

So does the Twilight Princess Player's Guide have cool artwork?

Yeah a lack of original content has hurt the more recent Player's Guides.  I still buy the Mario ones and they're fine, but they just don't have the same special element that came out of guides like Mario Mania or the Link's Awakening/A Link to the Past guides.
That's my opinion, not yours.

Forcing players guides as subscription gifts is what hurt the players guides.  Instead of being an item you'd want to go out and buy, it's turned into a crap free gift which means whoever's making them don't have to work as hard to make them special, since they'll end up in people's hands anyway, killing more trees.

The TP guide is a thick mofo.  It almost didn't fit in my small apartment mailbox with the Soundtrack CD nearly being bent to breakage.

So how many tracks are there, and what are they?  Is the soundtrack worth it?

I was nearly moved to tears when I finally heard the Zelda theme at the end.  Please tell me the end music is in there.

IS THIS SPOILER?

Track list:

Orchestra Piece #2
Hyrule Field Main Theme
Kakariko Village
Death Mountain
Ilia's Theme
Midna's Theme

Sorry Jon!  The bad news is: the aren't enough songs.  The good news is...they might all be orchestrated.  I only listened to it very briefly (I don't own them), but from what I heard they all sounded orchestrated....which is peculiar to say the least.  If they are in fact NOT orchestrated, then it's the best damn MIDI I've ever heard....

Something like 6 tracks, the same as the $40 piece of crap they're trying to sell at Target.

$40 for a short CD and a collector's box that can't even say closed?

or $20 for a short CD and a useless player's guide plus a 1-yr NP subscription?

DUHHHH YOU'RE SUPPOSED TO SPEND $30 ON OVERPRICED VC GAMES

Well, that sucks.  Look like I'll let my NP subscription run out a second time (and so shortly after the Wii release...the first time I gave up on NP was shortly after the GCN release).

Why couldn't NP be as cool as in 1991...when they gave out Dragon Warrior (NES) (a whole game!  And on cartridge too!) along with a little strategy handbook about the game with a year's subscription?  Or in 1992 when they gave out FOUR Player's Guides (the first ones, and they were good) with a year's subscription?

Nintendo's stock is at an all-time high...if they could afford those then, they can certainly afford Wii demo discs and Wii Points cards now.  Those would keep me subscribing for sure!

Well, consider that demo "discs" should no longer apply since we're in the "new" gen and we have the VC for distribution of promotional media.

So instead of waiting for the next awful NP issue and spending funds on disc manufacturing, we can just download and use a little bit of bandwidth.

You do realize that the "Hyrule Field" that was "released" last year sounds NOTHING like it does now, right?  Ilia's Theme has also been improved...
