I glance around at the underbelly once in a while, and there's precious little in the way of Nintendo rumors, or any major rumors at all really. The PR machine of the major publishers has learned to wield forums to hype pre-press releases for standard products. Like, "RUMOR!!! Square-Enix to announce FFXIV release date soon!" And outside of that Smash ESRB blow-out, Nintendo is friggin' air tight.


The only thing I've read, which has been kicking around for months, is that Nintendo is supposedly working on an HD remaster for the WiiU to release in 2015, anything from an N64 to a Wii title. And that's vague enough to just be common sense/idle speculation.

I read online that Nintendo is going to announce the Wii U version of Pokken Tournament that will launch (and possibly be bundled) with new Amiibo figures (and one of an "special" or "secret" character).

Development was difficult because of differing viewpoints on how the project should be handled story-wise. Apparently the SMT team was possessive and difficult around the story, and the FE team was frustrated because it was being bossed around, which created tension and overall awkwardness.

IGN will supposedly announce the cancellation tomorrow. EDIT: Timing is interesting considering tomorrow is the release date of Captain Toad, and the Video Game Awards, where we know other consoles will be making announcements.

Unless...Nintendo announces a solo Fire Emblem Wii U game in conjunction with the news of the SMT X FE cancellation.

The SMT/Fire Emblem crossovers was one of the coolest Wii U games announced.  It would be really shitty for it to get canned.

At this point Nintendo can't really afford for ANY Wii U to be cancelled.  They'll need something to replace it.  Soren's suggestion of a solo Fire Emblem game is a good idea.  Or maybe they can cross it over with something else.  How about they phone up Square Enix and make Tactics Ogre x Fire Emblem?  It isn't like Square is doing anything with that IP and that could let Intelligent Systems be given more freedom on the direction of the game.

I wouldn't be surprised if FE x SMT got cancelled or re-purposed into something else, it's been like what, two years it was announced and we've seen nor heard nothing since?

I mean, let's get real, here. Nintendo has had SMTxFE on their release schedules for a while now and I feel like Atlus and Nintendo have a pretty good relationship. I think SMTxFE is just on the back-burner for now.

The way I see it, is that it could be the chance for a now quite popular franchise (Fire Emblem, with the recent sales of Awakening and Smash representation) to pull another more niche franchise into the spotlight. Bonus if it's actually a good game!

If that falls apart, I sure as hell hope Intelligent Systems is thinking about a Fire Emblem game to make up for it, or maybe... I dunno, a PAPER MARIO THAT DOESN'T SUCK.
