Just who exactly is a 1st-party Nintendo developer? I know of the following:

- Retro Studios
- Intelligent Systems (WarioWare)
- HAL Labs (Kirby, Smash Bros. series)
- Project Sora (Masahiro Sakurai's joint venture with Nintendo, created Kid Icarus Uprising)
- The Pokemon Company
- Game Freak (Pokemon main seiries)
- Monolith Soft (Xenoblade)
- EAD (Mario, Zelda, Donkey Kong, etc.)
- EAD Tokyo (DK Jungle Beat, Super Mario Galaxy series, Super Mario 3D Land)
- Nintendo Software Technology / NST (Mario vs DK series, Metroid Prime Hunters)

Am I missing some developers?

Why would Platinum Games make a StarFox game? They aren't owned by Nintendo, they're a completely independent developer.

Or Platinum is working on a new Star Fox and Sakurai wanted to see it because he's a huge Star Fox fan.  Like I've said before, Platinum would be the best choice for a Star Fox game because Kamiya himself is a huge fan of the series, wants to make a game for it, and has the resume of great action games to insure he'd deliver on the actual gameplay.  Considering Kamiya's record, I'd imagine Sakurai himself would agree that Kamiya is a great choice for the series and really wanted to see the game.

Sounds pretty legit to me. No one is saying Platinum Games absolutely are making Star Fox. You asked why they would. Well, this is why they would, not why they are.

Hmm, seems legit to me. Ok then, make it happen Nintendo. Have Platinum make a new StarFox game, then if it's successful, have the company join your 1st-party development family.


I'm actually surprised that Nintendo hasn't bought out Monster Games (ExciteTruck, ExciteBots), Next Level Games (Mario Strikers, Luigi's Mansion 2, Punch Out Wii), and Good-Feel (Wario Land Shake It, Kirby's Epic Yarn) yet.

Gack. You're selling Intelligent Systems far too short. Those guys rocked the Paper Mario series, as well as Pushmo. WarioWare is far from their best game... IMO.

I didn't want a Wikipedia link. I was hoping for a more "official" list from Nintendo's corporate site. I searched and found nothing. How do the people at Wikipedia know who is a true 1st-party Nintendo developer?

Oh no it's ok man. I was just wondering if Nintendo lists their 1st-party developers on their corporate site? I searched and couldn't find anything. I also searched on Microsoft's gaming site for their 1st-party developers and couldn't find anything.

I thought it was "up up, down down, left right, left right, B, A, Select, Start"?

Actually the Select Start is only because Select changes it to two player mode for Contra and Start...well starts the game.

If you do it B, A, Start then you play one player with 30 extra men.

I posted this else where, but about the Retro rumor...here is my thoughts.
This is a pretty stupid rumor...I don't believe it.

Unless, they took the Metroid leap too literal.

If they said the gameplay Started as a standard Star Fox mission and Fox McCloud was stranded on a planet...and he sends his team off to finish the battle while we repairs his ship I would buy it. 

Then you would have Fox playing the part of explore trying to find make shift parts to repair his ship...all along while being on a hostile alien planet...potentially being controlled by Andros's Army.

Now, that would be a cool game.  Mix in exploring and shooting action...as well as tight space control.  And even allow Fox to jump into vehicles for combat would be great...

But more importantly...this could be Nintendo asking Retro to create a bigger universe for Star Fox for the express purpose of multiplayer. 

Imagine, If Retro designed an all out robust Star Fox battle system for 8-16 players online...with Star Fox Tank, and Ar-Wing battles as well as well designed on foot combat. 

Now that would be an Epic game.

I am thinking of something along the lines of Star Wars Battlefront, but a little more story driven. You'd have missions with different vehicles and such available to you, or maybe you could have a Slippy science bay and upgrade to new tech, all while trying to route out the enemy. Almost RTS esque, but from a third person perspective... and depending on how you want the multiplayer to be, the story could either only focus on Team Fox, or it could introduce a galactic defense force to buff your numbers a bit.

That's the coolest idea I could think of for reinventing the Starfox franchise. Because I'm gonna be honest- on-rail space battles don't really cut it for me, especially with the tech we have nowadays. Give me more freedom and more options, please.

iv always thought of a more robust Star Fox, but i understand half the fans are against it. SFA does not count though, it wasn't really in the Star Fox universe. Im thinking something between SFA, Beyond Good and Evil, Star Fox 64, Grand Theft Auto, and Rogue Squadron.
