Most games on Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 don't reach the sales of the Just Dance games, so what? Ubisoft got a massive hit on their end with the franchise.

Motion controls work well when the developer puts effort into it, though a lot never did. What about Mii's? Sony and Microsoft like them enough to copy them.

Yes, MS and Sony don't have a lot of big games.  In fact, Nintendo had the biggest games early on and crushed MS and Sony this generation.  What's odd though is that Sony and MS gamers still get AAA titles and some of them turn into big games or big franchises.

I can only think of 2 games that motion controls helped: Wii Sports and No More Heroes.  God Father was also good but it's a port so I don't think that counts.  I don't blame Nintendo for the bad games they didn't make.  But a lot of Nintendo's games would have been better off using traditional controls.

RE4 also benefited greatly from motion controls, but that too is a port.

So did Boom Blox, Tiger Woods, and Trauma Team, and probably much more. And if we add in pointer controls...

But realistically, I think the ports are the perfect counter-example. If the thesis is "motion controls don't help games," and then at least one game is cited which, by the detractor's own admission, is better than the original game because of motion controls, well...

I'm not a detractor of motion controls, I just think a lot of games that used motion controls poorly would have been better with better controls or traditional controls.  I also didn't play Godfather on any other system so it doesn't quite work as a counter-example since I can't say that the Wii version was better for any reason.  I just liked the game, motion controls included.

Ah, gotcha. I can agree with you: too many titles did try to just shoehorn them in. I still maintain though that, properly done, they'll contribute to most titles.

My attitude about the name is the same as always.  They go with something that is general enough that it has no negative association for any particular audience.  "Wii" = casual so it has to go.  Simple as that.  The Wii U is to be a TRUE "everyone" console.  Wii is not an everyone console it's a "lowest common denominator" console.  Calling it for "everyone" is like saying Justin Bieber is for "everyone".  No he ain't and if you wanted to form a band that truly had people of all ages coming to shows you would not make him your lead singer.

The Wii U should have a name that just sounds like some piece of electronics that plays videogames because that is what it is.  Note the iPod has not really been associated with any particular audience.  It's just seen as a portable music player that people of all ages with ANY taste in music use.  "Wii" fair or not is associated with a specific audience and if Nintendo wants more than that audience the successor needs a new name and needs to look different as well.  It's like how "Fisher-Price" means pre-school toys so Mattel doesn't put THAT brand name on Hot Wheels cars because it doesn't fly with that audience.

...and here I was thinking that I was the only one who thought Godfather: Blackhand Edition had excellent motion controls.

You don't see that happening? Well, let me take your quote and tweak it a little bit.

"Hey I just bought my son that new Nintendo for his 12th birthday. what was it called... Oh yeah, anyway, you guys wanna come over and check out his Wii? To be honest, I think I play with it more than he does. Even my wife plays a few waggle games on it when she thinks no one is watching."

You guys are just joking with the VAGINAS, but its really not much different than the name Nintendo has already chosen and used.
