But I'm talking about for more than just games and a single layer Bluray @ 25GB vs a dual HD DVD @ 30GB might not seem like much difference now, but when you do need more space and have to add more layers, HDDVD starts to become problematic way sooner than BRD.

I think HDDVD capped out at 4 layers 50GB before it died and Bluray I think they got upto 4 layer 100+GB last I checked.

That may be so, but for the purpose of video gaming all that massive space isn't really needed. The 360 and Wii use DVD media and very very rarely do games take up so much space that they need to be on 2 or more discs. So if current games can get by on 9gb DVDs then why would the next generation of consoles have a problem with 50gb HD-DVDs? If it were absolutely necessary games could be split over onto multiple discs, but with 50gb of capacity I can't see that being something that would happen very often (if ever).

So maybe bluray does offer more space, but is all that space ever fully used or needed? I doubt it. Thanks to improvements in compression and so on maybe even regular DVDs would be adequate for the next consoles. But HDDVD offers the benefit of being a more obscure format which is more difficult to pirate.

Probably not even in the generation after that either. Until we get to the point where gaming consists of holodeck simulations we're probably good with 50gb for games.

I didn't want to get back into BRD vs HDDVD discussion, but where I was trying to go was Nintendo could have some sort of hybrid drive that accepts mini HVD(GC sized disc) and sill have as much space as a BRD since the HVD tech was DVD BC.

I really doubt Nintendo would ever support BRD even if it was decided the format war winner as long as Sony is in the console business.

What does DVD playback ability have to do with Netflix? The only thing you need for Netflix support is a Internet connection.

Part of Netflix's rental program is that they send out these round, shiny plates at the subscriber's request called DVDs and Blu-Ray Discs that... wait for it... play movies! Incredible, right? Welcome to 2010, indeed! Glad to be of help. Thank me later.

I think what TJ Spyke was saying was that you don't need DVD playback for Netflix because of streaming. Though not all movies and shows are available on the streaming service, so you still need to get the DVDs, mostly for new releases.

Yeah, I know what he meant. He just happens to be the most arrogant person on these boards so I couldn't resist the urge to respond sarcastically given the ridiculous response he gave me. And, more to the point, I disagree. Netflix streaming leaves a lot of be desired. The entirety of Netflix is an awesome program and the Wii only sees half of it. Nintendo is more likely to have Panasonic create a proprietary Blu-Ray based media strictly for games. I just think it's worth including DVD/Blu-Ray playback in order to support Netflix to its fullest extent.

Kind of mixed on how I'd feel if this is true.  On the one hand, I would have liked for Retro to be allowed to do a new IP.  On the other though it means Nintendo is serious about making Donkey Kong a top tier series again.  Even though Jungle Beat is my favorite Donkey Kong game, because of it's sales I doubt Nintendo will allow Tokyo EAD to ever make another one.

So if we're not going to get another Donkey Kong from Tokyo EAD, at least we're getting one from another one of Nintendo's top studies like Retro and not one of their bottom ones like Paon who made the craptacular Barrel Blast.

Word is that this has been in the works since 06.  If that's true, that means this must be from a separate team within Retro.  One team which has been working on the Prime series exclusively and this one secretly working on the DK game.  If there are in fact 2 teams, what has the Prime team been working on? 
 
Could we possibly be seeing a reveal of 2 Retro games?  This DK Wii game and a possible 3DS launch title?  Metroid Dread anyone? lol ( I wish)

This rumor comes from people close to the tranlation of the demo for the presentation.
It's says that the new Zelda, without a subtitle, is going to tell the story of the origin of the Master Sword.
It happens hundreds of years before Ocarina of Time.
There's a fairy called Zordania.
The classic item, the Hook Shot, is back. It's used for action, and for moving alog int the environments.
You will use your sword to draw patterns on elements such as doors to interact with.
The bow and arrow will have the same mechanics as the ones for Wii Sports resort.
The demo that will be shown is in a snowy/frozen environment. They're not sure if it is a dungeon, but they say the demo will show how subtil it is to go through exterior and interiors. I guess virtually no load times.
