Ok, you picked literally THE BEST COMMERCIAL EVER to compare to MP3 (which did have advertising, the "Wii would like to play"). And while I agree with you, I feel that Nintendo's marketing (on the American side at least) has been leaps and bounds better.

I'm not sure if Pikmin 3 will get alot of advertising, and I understand your argument (that you can't look at the trend; Nintendo's random), but who cares if it "flops" or not? It's guaranteed to sell at least a mil. And maybe that's a criteria Nintendo use in order to affixiate marketing funds.

I'll buy it.

Yeah, I hope it sells well. I plan on picking it up, too.

...Right, so, any other Motion Plus ideas?

Return of that one specific mask from MM.. was it the Kamaro mask or something like that?

I just want Link to be able to don the mask, and via the power of Motion+ wave my hands around for him to perform that awesome dance!

Yeah, I think that was Kamaro.

...Hey, that gives me an idea: what if, instead of learning new songs for various purposes, you learn specific dances? I'm... actually being serious, I think. It could be be a really fun change of pace, especially since Wind Waker already used a baton and OoT already used something similar to a flute (which would be the most obvious/intuitive choices for the Wiimote).

Are there any ideas for a specific instrument or set of instruments for Link to use this time around? I imagine that Nintendo's experience with Wii Music has left the Zelda team with all sorts of possibilities.

....

Do you not remember the pikmin commercials?

I remember Pikmin 1's commercials (especially with the help of Mr. Adolph Vega). You probably remember Metroid Prime 1's commercial, but what about the commercials for Metroid Prime 3? MP3 is a Wii sequel to a series that started on GameCube with some marketing push, which experienced some - but not overwhelming - success. When MP3 came along, there was very little advertising. That's the concern I was pondering over.

Now, I'm not trying to derail the thread with Nintendo-based negativity. I guess I was just tying thoughts from this recent blog post to this thread. No matter what kind of advertising the game gets, I'm really looking forward to playing it.

Maybe instead we'll get the hook/clawshot and the return of the ball and chain.

Might there be the return of the shovel? And what about the Lens of Truth (or something like it) that's handled like a real life magnifying glass?

I wonder if Motion Plus could enhance sumo wrestling...

No, that's impossible, Wii is only capable of lame, novel, substance-free, non-standard, game-breaking waggle that will soon fizzle out like disco.

Ah. In that case: waggle to break free from enemy's sumo grapple; waggle to grapple and throw enemy!

You forget waggling the nunchuck and Wiimote separately to do the Sumo Foot-stomping thing, along with using the Wii Speak to cry out "Hero Boy!" for an instant win.

If only Nintendo ever gave themselves time to implement Wii Speak into their games...

Unfortunately, the Wii just doesn't have the processing power to implement it.  It would create a paradox that would destroy the entire universe!  On the other hand, we could just get knocked out.  Granted, that's a worst case scenario...

Wii development progress goes "boink"

Does anyone suppose NoA will advertise this game at all before the American release? Hopefully they will, but I can see this being one of those awesome games that gets ignored because other, bigger games come out around the same time (or for no apparent reason at all).

Perhaps it's that the Wii embraces new ways of conceptualizing and enjoying games, which can be difficult for some "veteran" gamers to come to grips with (myself included, sometimes). So, maybe the complaints sound the same and persist for sooo long simply because the Wii is still the Wii and the "old" way of thinking about and enjoying games can still be appealing.

Sounds like a break-the-block game that's actually fun.

As for not being WiiWare: I'm guessing they feel the game is targeting a wider audience than just people who download games, such as Yours Truly. Or maybe it was too large to be WiiWare. Though I wouldn't expect this to be a $50 game just because it is being sold at retail, it will probably be $20 or $30 depending on how much content it has.

Depending on the variety and number of additional modes (and the quality of the graphics?), I could imagine this being a $20-$30 release.

It seems that there are games that Nintendo of America don't know how to effectively market and assume will only have a cult following at best, and so rely on some underwhelming Internet ads to push the titles. Perhaps their (odd?) market analysis tell them in these cases to make whatever small amount they can from Internet-dwelling Nintendo fans by "sending it out to die."

Or who knows, maybe it's simply the result of game favoritism by Reggie or someone at the top of NoA's marketing division. It's hard to come up with a good explanation considering the great first-party Wii games that have so far been given the cold shoulder (Metroid Prime 3, Wario Land [EDIT: not Wario Land?], Excite Bots, and more?).

This sounds pretty fun. I'm a little confused about it being a retail release, too. Even as the gameplay was being described, I just assumed it would be for WiiWare. Maybe there's more depth possible with this game than it seems.

I fear for the creature, though.  Given it's pedigree, and a name like "The Last Guardian", is there any chance this game will have a happy ending?  I wonder...

It may depend on where this one fits in the timeline (if indeed there is one between the three games). I'm interested to see what connection The Last Guardian will share with ICO and SotC.

I'm not going to be saying anything new here, but congrats Lindy (and Neal)! I've been to many receptions, and getting all of your friends and family together for one gigantos party is like, the reason to have a wedding. (I guess spending the rest of your life with someone you love is alright, too.)

Also, NWR's E3 coverage was awesome! I just hope some of the previews, impressions, and podcasts don't stay semi-lost in the avalanche of great coverage (I base this off of the few comments some articles have gotten so far).

This game is just beautiful. I'm looking forward to it more and more.

I agree with other posters that have commented on how irritating the Boy's calls to his blob get. It's not as bad in this trailer, but other gameplay videos show how frequently you hear him call. Maybe Way Forward could simply have the Boy snap his fingers instead of yell, or get many more (or simply a less grating) voice samples from the boy's voice actor. At any rate, I have a feeling Way Forward will adjust this before the game is released.

hire actually famous actors like Castlevania? The got Patrick Stewart, Jason Isaacs, Robert Carlyle, and Natasha McElhone...i didn't know she was english..she sure hides it in Californication and those skin commercials.

Even good voice actors can do a sub-par job, and I think a lot of that depends upon the VO Director (I believe that's the name of the job). A great actor could ham up well-written dialogue without realizing it, and if the VO director doesn't realize the tone of the scene, realize the one actor's problem, and effectively describe the problem to the actor so s/he can do a better job, then the voice acting will still suck.

This game looks interesting. I'm not sure if it looks fun yet, but interesting, for sure.

Does anyone even know when this game is coming out?

According to the man in the walkthrough vid a few posts above, "it will look at the shelves this fall."

Link can grab her by her neck and swing her around to break stuff... I see nothing wrong with that.

You got a point

Theory 1.b

OK, so Link will have a fishnet-stocking blade, then.

I've been trying to think how this person-weapon dynamic will work within the game. What kind of gameplay enhancements or challenges might it present? Maybe there will be a different little person for each main weapon in the game and Link will have to make sure they stay safe and accompany him through each dungeon. While that sounds Pikmin-like, for Zelda that seems... kinda dumb. It's all I can think of, though. Any other ideas?

The other possibility is that this sword-girl has no real affect on gameplay and is mostly a plot device to make sure Link has a vocal companion throughout the story. If this is the case, and it's all that was displayed in this early concept art, that suggests to me that the developers may not be changing the Zelda formula much at all. If gameplay comes before story, why would the team be focusing on story elements already unless the gameplay was pretty well locked in place?

It's possible that the art is the result purely of the design team, who may not yet be involved with any gameplay. If not, though, does anyone think that simply having new controls with the same OoT-esque formula will feel fresh enough? I'm not sure if it will (though the living watercolor visual style might be enough to persuade me otherwise).

The trailer was a whole lot of Belmont (assuming he's a Belmont) kneeling in front of a window then El Gigante comes out of no where. Right. At least the new Belmont looks like a dude.

Wrong trailer!
