Why did Mario Kart Wii suddenly jump back up in sales?  Did they have a special on it?

NSMB Wii and Wii Fit Plus also had fairly substantial jumps.  It's probably just related to Golden Week.

There are usually very few new releases during Golden Week, so people are more likely to go and buy a older game that they hadn't bought yet. Although in this instance I just chalk it up to people having the week off and wanting more games.

Those are some pretty low numbers. It's a shame that MH3 didn't chart. :'(

According to people with NPD numbers, Monster Hunter 3 sold 126,000 copies in April.  This is the most successful opening any Monster Hunter game has ever had in North America by far.

Will be interesting to see if the game has any legs though.

I'm not surprised that MH3 isn't selling that well, it just isn't a game for the masses. One look at the control layout will already tell you that. I hope this will finally kill the myth that Wii games sell on marketing alone.

It still potentially has the best opening of a Monster Hunter game released in NA.

Did you not read the part about it having the most successful launch of any Monster Hunter game in North America?  Which actually shows that Wii games will sell if given good marketing.  Even though 126k isn't all that great when compared to other series, it's still a huge improvement over the previous Monster Hunter games released in North America.

Yes but it sells well for a Monster Hunter game. The way Nintendo was pushing it you'd think they were going for million+ sales. People also act like you can make anything into a million seller with enough advertising and that the Wii ________ games only sell because of that.

I'm with KDR here; while that's a great number for a Monster Hunter game, this was supposed to be the breakout Western title, what with Nintendo's assistance with the marketing and all.  It may end up showing decent legs (and to be fair it did better than I was expecting), but I'm sure Capcom was holding out for more.

I blame GameStop for their poor handling of the Free Demo and then I also blame the Free Demo for being generally bad according to most people that have played it.

I have the demo, but it has never made it's way into the Wii.

Maybe because it's not that great, limiting its appeal to similar sales ratios it had when it first started in Japan.

But don't worry, when Monster Hunter Hex is out on Nintendo 3DS, it'll break 500K in the first month.

I don't know why anyone would expect Monster Hunter Tri to be a great seller here in North America, marketing or not. 126k is much more than I thought it would be, and considering the game had the most successful NA launch of any Monster Hunter game I'd think Capcom would be pleased with its sales as well. It released on the 20th of April which means it sold that amount in ten days, that's a good number for any third-party Wii game, especially one in a series that never performed well here before.

I hope it sells well enough to get a sequel. There is so much potential for this series and I'd like to see it continue on the Wii (or Wii2)

Never fear!  Monster Hunter is the Madden franchise of the rising sun.  Every year like clockwork they release a small incremental upgrade with new quests/monsterd/armor/weapons.  I DO, however, think that Capcom might start charging for use of their online servers.  (It's where they get most of their money in Japan... kind of like WoW.)

I don't think they'll charge money here before it turns into a big phenomenon, currently they'd have a very hard time justifying the fees to people here especially since the west uses PCs a lot more and has access to proper MMORPGs.
