That "gaining ground" is currently very insignificant. By the time it could add up to anything Nintendo will have new guns ready and who knows when the HD consoles will get hit with a drought.

I think this is definitely a weak showing from Nintendo and a strong one from their competitors, that's for sure. Nintendo themselves have cited that the Japanese market hasn't lived up to their sales expectation recently (the NA and EU markets have though). The big N needs to figure out why the Japanese home console market is softening, and what they can do about it. I actually don't know of anything in the future that would revive the Wii in that market to insano levels short of MHTri (no, not that MH:G remake, the real one please) or DQX.

Using rough estimated number that Nintendo has a 5mill lead on Sony 7 Sony is selling 40k PS3's a week

If Nintendo didn't sell another Wii starting now, Sony would have to continue to sell 40k PS3's a week for 125 weeks just to make up that 5 mill lead
That is almost 2 .5 years, meaning that Sony still would catch up till fall of 2011.

I'm pretty sure we aren't worried about Nintendo losing their massive lead so much as just that on a weekly basis they are being made to look weak in the market. 3rd party developers are looking for any reason to not support the Wii, so when Wii is barely outselling the 360 and being almost tripled in weekly sales by the PS3, that gives them something to base their biased views on.

I've been worried for quite awhile now that the Wii wouldn't reach 20 million sold in Japan by the time all is said and done.

They can't replicate it cuz it's only allowed once in a cycle, regardless of console or portable.

The Japanese market is notoriously fickle though. They move through fads and popular items like there's no tomorrow. This was always an expected occurrence at some point.

MH3 and DQX are the upcoming system sellers. Wii Sports Resort will be interesting to watch in Japan because that has the potential to move the Wii base.

Be patient, Wii Sports Resort will do amazingly well, and lets not forget MH3 or DQX. This panic is ridiculous. Is it a slow time for the Wii? Yes but guess what it is pretty dang slow for all the consoles. Heck the PS3 in its now, so called, sales boost can't even manage 40k and barely has Wii at a 2-1 ratio

Here's a classic Otome game. It's called Tokimeki Memorial (ときめきメモリアル) Girl's Side 1st Love Plus for the Nintendo DS and DSi. It's an updated version of Tokimeki Memorial Girl's Side 1st Love, a DS game which came out in March 2007. This is a classic dating simulation where you play the role of a female protagonist looking for love amongst a cast of cute guys, while juggling life in high school.

Nintendo’s Wii Play Surpasses 10 Million Units Sold in the United States

Wii Play™, a collection of nine mini-games, has now sold more than 10 million units in the United States alone since its debut in February 2007, according to figures released today by the independent NPD Group, which tracks video game sales in the United States. Wii Play, now the top-selling software on all consoles and portable systems in the United States, comes packaged with a Wii Remote™ controller.

“Wii Play mini-games are fun and they get people playing together,” said Cammie Dunaway, Nintendo of America’s executive vice president of Sales & Marketing. “Even if you believe people are buying Wii Play solely for the controller, that indicates that there are now more than 10 million people who have an extra Wii Remote controller in their homes. When added to the 12.7 million Wii Remote controllers that have sold separately, this reinforces the growing ‘social gaming’ trend we have been seeing where friends and family use their Wii games as a social hub – both in person and online.”

Wii™ system sales were up about 74 percent over February 2008, and Wii and Nintendo DS™ finished February as the top-selling hardware systems. Wii sold nearly 753,000, bringing its lifetime U.S. sales to nearly 19 million, while Nintendo DS sold nearly 588,000 for a lifetime U.S. total of nearly 29 million.

Nintendo DS™ demonstrated continued strength, as “evergreen” games like Mario Kart™ DS (launched November 2005) and New Super Mario Bros.™ (launched May 2006) again placed among the top sellers for February. The strong showing for Nintendo DS hardware and software demonstrates continued consumer interest in the portable system as the United States preps for the April 5 launch of the Nintendo DSi™ system, the third iteration of the hardware.

Five games made for Nintendo systems finished in the top 10 best-sellers of February. These include Wii Fit™ at No. 1 with nearly 644,000 sold, Wii Play at No. 2 with nearly 386,000 sold, Mario Kart™ Wii at No. 6 with nearly 263,000 sold, Mario Kart DS at No. 8 with nearly 145,000 sold and New Super Mario Bros. at No. 9 with more than 144,000 sold.

Third-party Wii and Nintendo DS games also posted strong sales, with titles from LucasArts, Ubisoft, Majesco, Disney Interactive Studios, Electronic Arts and Activision/Blizzard all placing in the top 30 for the month.

& with no mention of SEGA in the 3rd parties placing in the Top 30, I think you all know what that means for HOTD. :(

Well according to VGchartz it has sold like 160k worldwide and 70k in the US. Give or take 20k and you should have a decent idea how the real sales were. Then again we still have to remember the slow but steady pace Wii games have sold over time.

Yeah, the VGchartz numbers might be unofficial, but they tend to be pretty close to the final numbers.

Remember, just because games don't chart it doesn't mean they aren't selling.

Also I think people are just weary of plopping down $50 for a pretty standard length lightgun shooter. My guess is once the price is lowered to $30 it will sell quite well like the compilation did.
