Game Series that Need to be Reborn on Wiiware
« on: February 02, 2011, 11:46:59 PM »
The other day I was shopping around on the Wiiware channel and I noticed two titles: Contra Rebirth and Castlevania the Adventure Rebirth. This reminded me of the rebirth of famous series on Wiiware and got me to thinking of other retro series that should be remade into modern "rebirth" titles. Here is a few off the top of my head:

River City Ransom
Gunstar Heroes
Alien Soldier
Streets of Rage
Magician Lord
Shinobi

Any peticular reason for those choices Kytim?
Maxi is dead. I killed him and took his posts and changed genders.

Not much reason other than to break the ice and get the ball moving on this topic.

Mario Bros. Arcade.  With four-player, on-line death-match co-op play...

Perhaps a new, co-op or competitive multiplayer focused Wrecking Crew?

I've love Final Fight if they do it right.  That's the key.  Nobody seems to have the slightest clue of how to make a good beat-em-up anymore.  Simplicity is the key.  They should be short and they should be one-dimensional.

I would love to see a beefed up version of Saturday Night Slam Masters.  The original game is a blast but it's very limited.  It does not even have a tag team match.  It has a team match but both competitors are in the ring at the same time.  Why not have another option for a more traditional tag match?  The Genesis version had a death match but it was two player only, you could not face a computer opponent as a single player so a more expanded option of that would be nice too.  And let's throw in steel cage matches and street fights and battle royales where it is every man for himself.  There is a lot of stuff that can be done.  They could expand the roster too.  Put in the new characters from Ring of Destruction and throw in other Capcom wrestlers like Zangief.

Somehow I figure though that Capcom would change the gameplay which I don't want at all.  I want the same gameplay but with expanded match types.  The sequel, Ring of Destruction, plays more like a straight-up fighting game and it just plain sucks.  It is missing all the elements that I enjoyed in the first game.  I am afraid that if they ever resurrected the franchise they would break it like that.

A few games I wouldn't mind seeing a revival are Haunting Starring Polterguy and Mutant League Football.  I think both of those franchises would be legitimate if given not only a fresh coat of paint but maybe a bit of a gameplay overhaul.  Both are personal favorites from my childhood.

The Disney-Capcom games of the NES/SNES eras.  Seriously, Disney Interactive is moving to all-digital anyway, so it fits with their new business model to revive the legendary Disney gaming "series" (Ducktales, Rescue Rangers, Darkwing Duck, Aladdin, etc.).
