When Steve Wiebe got laid off, he turned to the classic arcade game Donkey Kong for solace; soon, he decided to challenge Billy Mitchell's long-standing record score. So began the bitter rivalry that lies at the heart of this curiously compelling documentary. Providing a history of competitive video gaming and a look at some of the key players, The King of Kong is at its best when revealing just how far Mitchell will go to retain his crown.
PARANOiA SUPER: "If I could actually play an instrument, I might view this game as sacrilege against true music."
PARANOiA SUPER: - Miyamoto
JONNY (2:15:04 AM): that's a weird fake quote
JONNY (2:15:14 AM): he does play a few instruments
JONNY (2:16:04 AM): not that I would defend Wii Music -- it's an abortion
PARANOiA SUPER (2:16:16 AM): it's not a fake quote
PARANOiA SUPER (2:16:17 AM): owned.
PARANOiA SUPER (2:16:35 AM): although he said it in jest
PARANOiA SUPER (2:16:36 AM): maybe.
JONNY (2:24:39 AM): uh, I'd like to see the source on that
JONNY (2:24:51 AM): makes no sense for him to say that
JONNY (2:25:13 AM): first because part of it isn't true, second because it's very negative about his own game
JONNY signed off at 2:26:52 AM.
PARANOiA SUPER (2:28:46 AM): YUO
Halo doesn't drive gamers insane, it drives Xbox owning frat boys insane. Real gamers would know that it is merely an overhyped franchise (thanks to Microsoft's money) that doesn't, hasn't, and won't do anything particularly new or interesting in terms of the genre. Furthermore, it's a genre that utterly and absolutely sucks outside the realm of the PC. That's right boys and girls, gamepads weren't meant to play first-person-shooters and Halo is as generic as they come in an already generic genre! The kind of people that go batty over Halo are probably not usually the type to be interested in a "kid-friendly" Nintendo game anyway.
Note: I use the word kid-friendly because for whatever reason the word "k!ddie" is forbidden. Maybe to prevent "k!ddie pr0n", eh? Thanks again NWR for having some of the dumbest, most overbearing word censors to ever grace an internet forum. Fascists.
