Nintendo Gaming / My Wii is dying. Repair? Replace? Or wait for WiiU?
« on: August 26, 2011, 12:39:49 PM »
Hey guys.  My beloved Wii, bought on launch day, is slowly decaying.  I can no longer access the system settings or connect to the internet without getting the "system files are corrupted" message and being forced to restart my system.

And now it has started impacting my games.  I'm working on getting the last few green stars in Mario Galaxy 2, and the game makes crazy static sounds when bright colors are on the screen, and completely freezes up when I try to get the 2nd green star on that bird galaxy.

So, should I pay Nintendo $70 to repair it?  Should I sell it and buy a new system?  Or should I wait for the WiiU?

I want to play Skyward Sword, Rhythm Heaven and Kirby this fall, and I'm worried my Wii won't be able to...

General Gaming / Huge Nintendo wedding gift!
« on: June 01, 2011, 04:28:02 PM »
My fiancee just surprised me today with this Nintendo Popeye arcade cabinet!  She's crazy!  I love this game.  It's like ultimate Donkey Kong.  The animations are great, it's super challenging, and the music is really catchy.  I've always wanted an arcade cabinet of this!

General Chat / Game Over 4 art show...
« on: March 04, 2011, 08:13:03 PM »
Hey guys.  Once again I have Nintendo-inspired art in Game Over 4 at Giant Robot SF.  The show opens tonight, and I think any leftover artwork will be for sale on their website next week.  I have several framed watercolors in the show.

General Chat / Game Over 3 at Giant Robot SF

Hey guys.  To coincide with the Game Developers Conference, GRSF is having another videogame art show, Game Over 3.  The show opens tonight!  I have 5 paintings in the show.

I've been in the "I Am 8-Bit" shows in the past, and this show seems just as good.  You can see all the art at gr-sf.com.  Check it out.  Here's one of my pieces:

Nintendo Gaming / Art Style Thread
« on: October 14, 2008, 05:30:15 PM »
I've never started a thread before, but I've been on these forums since 2000 or so.  I'm just so excited about the new "Art Style" Wii Ware games, I wanted to begin a thread to discuss them.

Orbient and Cubello will, I am certain, become my most played Wii games so far.  At least until another, equally adictive "Art Style" game is released.

Orbient is an amazingly serene little game.  The 2-button controls are simple but nuanced, and the graphics are just enough to get by.

Cubello is a beautiful little puzzle game.  If someone in 1980 had to image what videogames might look like in the year 2008, I think they would picture something along these lines.  It is simple, just blocks of color, but pristine and futuristic.

Both games are doing a lot with very little.  I think I am drawn to them the same way I am drawn to Atari and NES games.  They're simple enough that your brain is actively filling in the blanks, making these actual interactive games, and not movies where you occasionally control the protagonist.

I can't wait to see what comes next.

Nintendo Gaming / Amazing On-Rails!! Raving Rabbids 2
« on: September 26, 2007, 03:28:30 PM »
Have you guys watched the videos of the on-rails FPS mode in Raving Rabbids 2 at IGN?  It looks pretty awesome.  It's real-time 3-D graphics blended seemlessly with video of major cities, like New York.  I've never seen this done in a game before, and it looks great!  I think I'm going to get this one.

Sorry I sound like a commerical, but the videos got me very excited.

Nintendo Gaming / Wii demo units at EB
« on: November 05, 2006, 01:44:29 PM »
Umm, has anybody posted this yet?  Friday night I was walking by an EB and saw a Wii demo unit inside.  Upon running in and drooling all over it, I was told the controller was coming the next day.  Now, I'm too busy to make my way back there and try this thing out, but I'm dying to hear what everyone thinks.  So get out there and do it, people!  Post your thoughts here!  (I'm in Chicago, BTW)

Also, buy my graphic novel, Cry Yourself to Sleep from Top Shelf.  There's a Gamecube in it!
