What's Legion about?

A guy locked up in a mental institution that thinks he's crazy, and he may be, but turns out he's also a mutant that didn't know he had and doesn't know how to use his powers. In the comics, this character is the son of Xavier, but may not make that connection in the show.

In the show they don't show Legion's fathers face, I looked up some backstory being that I was not too familiar with legion , and found out he was Xavier's son. I didn't know and I felt like I spoilerered myself. They may have gone over it in one of the cartoons though, but I barely remembered the character

That got me thinking. I checked back and The Dark Knight won 2 Oscars. So, that gives DC movies 3 Oscars since the Batman Begins / Iron Man modern DC / Marvel movies began. In that time period, Marvel has won no Oscars despite being nominated for a few. However, there is a sort of exception. Big Hero 6 won Best Animated Film and I believe that is based off a Marvel property but just isn't really part of the Marvel Universe. So, maybe that counts? I'll let BnM weigh in on that as the Marvel movie expert here.

Then I was curious about the few bigger comic book films that have come out in the past. I looked up Superman which had a few nominations but no wins. Checked on Tim Burton's Batman and that got 1 Oscar for Art Decoration or something. Batman Returns won nothing. Didn't bother checking out an other of the Batman films. Looked up the early 2000 Spiderman movies and Spiderman 2 did win for Best Visual Effects. I don't think there have really been any other Marvel movies further back than that so Spiderman 2 is currently the only Marvel film to win an Oscar. It's about 4-1(or 2) in DC's favor when it comes to lucking out on an Oscar.

Big Hero 6 is a Marvel Property, done by Disney Animation I believe. I was unaware it won an award, as I don't ever follow any of the award shows anyway.

But Blade came before Spider-man, but I doubt that or anything comic related before it (not named Batman or Superman) got anywhere near any sort of award.

Reviews for Iron Fist are saying it's pretty bad.  I guess this might be Marvel's first bad production.

i saw this yesterday... or the day before.
and honestly, I'm sure I've mentioned it here before, but Iron Fist was my least hyped Marvel project to date. Trailers did nothing for me, I think the show runner was in charge of the worst seasons/episodes of Dexter, and all I know about the character is from the Spider-man cartoon.

I was waiting for something to get me excited for it, and then they released the "fight" trailers... and .. well, I was not moved in the slightest. So I'm not even surprised that the reviews are coming in where they are.

Marvel was bound to have a complete dud somewhere, and this was the most likely culprit. Good thing this was just before The Defenders, and will likely be the only of the original Netflix 4 to not get a proper solo S2.
Here's to hoping that IF get's in better shape in the off season and Marvel Netflix gets a better fight choreographer for both IF and Colleen.
But I haven't really read the reviews, so I don't know what most of the criticisms are outside of the "White appropriation of Asian culture better than the Asians themselves" complaint.

The thing that irks me - I have no problem when movie studios, etc., decide to change a character's race from white to something else - but I also have no problem when they don't do that. It's a comic book show, and they have a white guy playing a white guy.

Well the main criticism that I saw was that Danny Rand visited an Asian country for a few years, and then apparently proceeded to school the Asian character on how to be more Asian while he schooled her in Martial arts in her own dojo.

But I haven't seen the show to know how accurate of a complaint that is. All I do know, is that the summary of reviews on the show is not looking good.

Is that not reflective of the character though?  I haven't read any Iron Fist but if it's an adaptation then isn't the problem with the source material?  I'm not really sure why the show, as an adaptation, is getting the flack.

The negatives are sounding a bit too quick to judge. I'm holding my thoughts until I actually see the show. I also want to support it for the actors, as both of the leads are Game of Thrones alum.


And I thought Danny inherited this ancient power and that was what made him so powerful? Would explain why he became so "good" and also explain why he doesn't look like he if fighting well or in really good shape. They may be doing that on purpose to show his growth and evolution as a fighter.

Like I said, I didn't read much of the reviews, and I didn't want to ruin will to watch this any further than the less than enticing trailers already did. I'm still going to watch it, but I'm not already planning on the all day Bingewatch like with previous series on Netflix.
If it draws me in, then great, but I'm not going in expecting much.

Really, the biggest complaint I am picking up is that it is not as amazing as the previous Netflix/Marvel material. It could very well be a case of the show being decent, but not Netflix/Marvel decent.

The whole thing of being "a better Asian than an Asian" because of his martial arts prowess is racist itself. It doesn't make any sense. That's like someone complaining that Darius Rucker became "a better white guy than a white guy" because of his success in country music.

Well I think it goes to show not all supporting heroes need a full series.  Although people have complained, I think it was wise not to gove Hawkeye or Black Widow a solo film yet.  I think they could do a movie now...but telling their story in a bigger story is OK.

I wouldn't give Hawkeye his own film, but he and Black Widow could share a film and pull it off, maybe have a Fury cameo as well, telling the story of how they came to be a part of Shield before the Avengers.
