So if AOS is the mainstream really tied in to the MCU show with serviceable acting, than Agent Carter is the the limited run high quality Oscar bait.

Just hope it does well since period pieces tend to do poorly on network TV.

Another Guardians of the Box Office Update: The $300M Domestic March for the #1 Movie of the Summer & Year

this is a launch aligned comparison, so that you can see how the movie is doing.

[Movie: Daily - Domestic Gross / # of Days (Total Domestic / WW Gross)]
GotG: $3,845,000 - $262,142,000 / 29 ($262,142,000 / $507,442,000) <est>
Cap 2: $2,099,784 - $231,480,995 / 29 ($259,746,958 / $714,063,958)
IM 1: $3,783,237 - $266,408,309 / 29 ($318,412,101 / $585,174,222)
MoS: $1,363,158 - $277,533,036 / 29 ($291,045,518 / $668,045,518)

Current Domestic Top 5 of 2014 (as of Thursday Totals)
[#. Movie: (Domestic Gross / WW Gross)]
1. GotG: ($262,142,000 / $507,442,000)
2. Cap 2: ($259,746,958 / $714,063,958)
3. LEGO Movie: ($257,748,132 / $468,048,132)
4. Transformers: ($243,950,966 / $1,065,250,966)
5. Maleficent: ( $237,841,302 / $747,841,302)
_______________________________________
6. X-Men: DOFP: ($232,814,528 / $744,938,694)
7. Dawn/Apes: ($204,419,991 / $555,404,991)

Guardians looks to have enough legs to cross that $300M mark, but can it catch up with IM1 @ $318M domestic? Next milestone to cross off the list though is Man of Steel.

Wanna predict when GotG collects $30M more domestic to pass MoS @ $291M?

p.s. Guardians is projected to 12.5M more through Monday (Holiday Weekend).
at it's current pace, it might pass MoS by the weekend after next.

There's a new Agents of Shield promo out feauting scenes from season 2. Was watching the  game yesertday and it showed up. I can't find high quailty yet, but here's a recording someone did.

[youtube:4yhxy3YhIoI]

Tripp is in the new footage and it looks like they're taking a four month jump with Skye looking much more badass. New Logo and it looks like a new direction with shield going back to its spy roots.

I'm gonna guess that by the end of the weekend after next, GotG will be on the verge of crossing that $300M marker.
I think that just after next weekend, we will be seeing GotG creeping up on, if not outright passing MoS too.

There has been a lot of concern in the box office industry about a lack of a $300 million film in the domestic market this year, and that none of the Summer movies were able to achieve that. First time since 2000...

...and now a film that looked like a long shot to be a success is going to break that streak for the year.  ;D

Marvel started with a plan... well, part of a plan.
and they knew they only had a 12% chance of success.

With those kinds of odds, they pay off is HUGE.

now lets see how they leverage the success of Guardians into drumming up the Disney/Marvel fanbase to go watch Big Hero 6.

"From people that brought you Frozen and Wreck it Ralph, we bring to you a story based on characters from Marvel Comics"
::plays Marvel comic intro followed by the Disney Animation Studios Logo::
BIG HERO 6

I just know they are gonna play it up like that.
They already say the part in the beginning, but they don't ever show the Marvel intro, which I think would help gather that extra bit of interest.

Big Hero Six Doesn't even need even need the as created by Marvel these days since Disney 3D efforts have been bullet proof. When Planes a direct to TV quailty project does enough to become a franchise you know you have a winning formula.

Oddly enough disney is the only one who seems to be pretty unfazed by the recent downturn in animation. Dragons was hit so hard that the TV series is skipping CN and going straight to Netflix.

Dragons is doing better than the 1st movie though.

Worldwide, on the domestic front it dropped off quite a bit from the first.

Movies are becoming more and more a global business that it doesn't matter as much, although studios still get less of the gross in most overseas markets (all the way down to just 25% in China).

I know but wasn't the drop off pretty heavy due to the bloated season.

regarding the one-shots, could Winter Solider not having one have more to do with the real lack of any direction for the Thor world post DW. We saw two thor related episodes of shield and for a one-shot there's not much they can do with that part of the universe without having any of the big actors.

We could still see a Captian American based one shot for the Guardians DVD (though its unlikely). The aveunes are pretty big.

-A short featuring Bucky finding his way.
-A short with Hawkeye and Pizza dog
-Something with Falcon
-A short with Agent 13.
-Something to do with Crossbones recovering from his Injuries.
-Or an expounded court hearing or CNN style panel similar to the Consultant

Probably won't happen but it would cool to see Nuke explored for Captain America 3.

Also how much do you think Shield will tie into Ulton and Ant-man. Carter should push shields into a a week or two after Ultron if not going into june.

It's down $40M domestic, but it's up $160M over seas, so it's still probably making more money overall, than the 1st movie. Not to mention that HTTYD2 has a $20M less budget, so making $40M less domestic doesn't hurt as much as it sounds.

Supposedly there wasn't time to do it as the guy that filmed the last 3 was busy working on Agent Carter. Not sure why they couldn't have tapped someone else for it... maybe making not about Lady Sif, but they could have made one regarding the Pilots that flew through the portals. One of them could have been Carol Danvers, and the One-Shot deals with her crashing, and meeting Mar-Vell.
That way when they picked up on her being in AoU, we would already be kinda familiar. and since the One-Shots are relatively short, they can still cover her origin in her own movie later down the line.

If they put a Cap 2 related One-Shot on the GotG DVD, it had better be Hawkguy related. We need to know where the **** he was at during all this ****.

Honestly, they should have put that on the Cap 2 DVD as sort of a bonus, and then do the Carol Danvers one on GotG DVD that comes out a few months before AoU.

AoS will probably do a HUGE crossover with the events in AoU at the end of the season. There will at least 2 episodes post AoU, and we know Tripp is in both. As far as tying into Ant-Man... we can only hope, but i would really hope that they find a way to tie into or lead directly into Daredevil, as that comes out between AoU and Ant-Man (Just like the poor Fantastic Four).

Stan Lee confirms Black Panther Movie is in the works....
http://www.comicbookresources.com/?page=article&id=55221
Quote from: Stan Lee
“We haven’t made a Black Widow movie but she’s been in some of our movies, and she will be featured more prominently as we move forward,” Lee said. “And the chances are she will have her own movie because eventually all the superheroes are going to have their own movies. They are already working on Ant-Man, Dr. Strange and the Black Panther and there are others I am not allowed to talk about.”

Sounds like that last one was also one you probably weren't allowed to talk about...
But, we kinda already knew it since actors were lobbying for the role while other were not so convincingly dodging the question. A confirmation is always welcome though.

I'll guess that Capt. Marvel and Inhumans are probably 2 more he isn't supposed to talk about.

[Movie: Daily Mon - Domestic Gross / # of Days (Total Domestic / WW Gross)]
GotG: $5,101,000 - $280,475,000 / 32 ($280,475,000 / $553,575,000) <Holiday est>

MoS: $592,243 - $281,481,205 / 32 ($291,045,518 / $668,045,518)

Current Domestic Top 5 of 2014 (as of Monday Estimates)
[#. Movie: (Domestic Gross / WW Gross)]
1. GotG: ($280,475,000  / $553,575,000)

5. Maleficent: ($238,715,000 / $748,715,000)

Guardians is back to tracking ahead of Ironman 1, and is ~$1M behind MoS. At this point I would estimate it passing MoS this upcoming weekend, and crossing $300M domestic no later than end of next weekend. And if it can stay in theaters till October, I don't see why it wouldn't pass IM1 in total domestic gross.

Guardians will be to Cosmic Marvel, as Ironman was to Earth Marvel.

I had a hard time finding a showing of GotG this weekend to see it with my Uncle and Sister Family who hasn't seen it.  The 9 of us where almost half the theater audience.  I don't know what it has left in the tank Domestic.  Considering there are still markets it hasn't released for worldwide.

just as anecdotal as your experience, there are reports of Guardians getting moved back onto the big screens in some theaters, as it's the only movie really selling tickets at the moment.

so, we will have to wait and see how today goes.but this weekend should definitely be decent. Probably $8-10M (Fri-Sun) + $2-4M (Tues-Thurs) = $10-14M for the week would still put it beyond MoS, so even if it puttered out after this weekend (domestically) it's still did more than good enough by anyone's expectations.

Mini Guardians of the Box Office update:

GotG was underestimated at the BO again, so instead of:
(Sat/Sun): $6,218,000 / $6,250,000 - $274,610,000 / 31 ($274,610,000 / $547,710,000) <wknd est>
(Mon): $5,101,000 - $280,475,000 / 32 ($280,475,000 / $553,575,000) <Holiday est>

it was actually
(Sat/Sun): GotG: $6,220,274 / $7,015,565 - $275,379,530 / 31 ($275,379,530 / $548,479,530)
(Mon): $5,824,589 - $281,204,119 / 32 ($281,204,119 / $554,304,119)
vs
MoS: $592,243 - $281,481,205 / 32 ($291,045,518 / $668,045,518)

which puts GotG $277,086 behind MoS @ 32 days.
Guardians might actually pass MoS daily tracking today or tomorrow.

The Russo's talk about what Hawkeye's scene in Cap2 was before they had to leave it on the chopping block.

http://screenrant.com/hawkeye-captain-america-2-role-explained/

Quote
Joe Russo: What it was going to be, we were trying to complicate the relationship between Cap and his S.H.I.E.L.D agent friends. If Hawkeye got a call from S.H.I.E.L.D saying Captain America is a fugitive, would he listen to that call or not listen to that call? That sequence actually was heartbreaking for us to cut it. I think it ultimately might have been a conflict with Renner’s schedule. But there was a great sequence where Hawkeye was chasing Cap through Washington D.C. there was an awesome sequence where they confronted each other in a ravine on the outskirts of D.C. and Hawkeye was shooting a series of arrows closing in on Cap, Cap closing in on him. And then Cap took him down and he realized for the first time that Hawkeye was trying to trick S.H.I.E.L.D, where he whispered something into Cap’s ear that Cap had a tracker on his suit and to punch Hawkeye to make it look real, because there was a Quinjet hovering above where they were watching the feedback back at S.H.I.E.L.D.

So it was a cool sequence. But look, there’s a million iterations of films, and especially when dealing with Marvel movies where characters can come in or come out during the creative process. And you keep working and working like a Rubik’s Cube till you find the right configuration where everything lines up. So even though we lost that sequence, I think we may have streamlined the movie and made it a little bit more propulsive.

They could have made up for it with a hawkguy one-shot on the DVD release though.

Agents of SHIELD S2 Synopsis

Quote
'Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D." returns for a dynamic, action-packed second season, with newly appointed Director Phil Coulson (Clark Gregg) - now the keeper of the secrets -- charged with rebuilding and restoring government and public trust in S.H.I.E.L.D. in the wake of the events of "Marvel's Captain America: The Winter Soldier," where it was revealed evil Hydra agents had infiltrated the organization. Ever since the existence of super heroes and aliens became public knowledge after the Battle of New York, the world has been trying to come to grips with this new reality. Agent Phil Coulson, who had died at the hands of Loki during the battle, was resuscitated and brought back into action, assembling a small, highly select group of Agents from the worldwide law-enforcement organization known as S.H.I.E.L.D. (Strategic Homeland Intervention Enforcement and Logistics Division). S.H.I.E.L.D.'s mission: to protect those who cannot protect themselves from threats they cannot conceive.

But the biggest threat was growing from within, as S.H.I.E.L.D.'s old enemy, Hydra - a dangerous extremist group Captain America fought against in World War II - had secretly infiltrated and infected the organization at the highest levels. Once revealed to the public, S.H.I.E.L.D., including Coulson and his team, was discredited and made to look like the enemy. The world now views S.H.I.E.L.D. as untrustworthy, and it's Coulson's job to change that opinion.

After helping to thwart Hydra, Coulson was appointed as Director and tasked with rebuilding the agency. This won't be an easy job to accomplish with the majority of S.H.I.E.L.D. agents either killed, secretly working for Hydra or free agents. Agent Melinda May (Ming-Na Wen), expert pilot, martial artist and longtime friend, will continue to look after Coulson in the wake of the mysterious etchings he's been carving into walls. What do these etchings mean, and can Coulson be trusted? Grant Ward (Brett Dalton), highly trained in combat and espionage, was found to be a Hydra mole and a traitor to S.H.I.E.L.D. and locked up away from the world and his former teammates. But this isn't the last we've seen of him... After being left to die in the middle of the ocean by Ward, Agent Leo Fitz (Iain De Caestecker), brilliant engineer, and Agent Jemma Simmons (Elizabeth Henstridge), genius bio-chemist, found a way to escape their watery grave. But all did not go well for Fitz, who was left in a coma and may never regain his full cognitive functions; a devastating blow to Simmons. And computer hacker Skye (Chloe Bennet), now a full-fledged S.H.I.E.L.D. agent, discovered her origins as a 0-8-4 -- an object of unknown origin - and that her parents were considered "monsters." Could Skye have darkness lying dormant inside of her? Also joining Coulson's core team is Lance Hunter (Nick Blood), a dashing mercenary sharp shooter with a quick wit. Since he didn't rise up through the ranks, does he have an ulterior motive for helping out the team?

Who can Coulson trust?

No mention of Agent Tripp.... hmmm
