I been wanting to get a Game Cube for a long time but they seem to be really hard to find these days. Especially the model I want with the digital outputs.

I have access to 5 GameCube consoles, they all have digital output...if you really need one. 1 Indigo, 1 Black, 3 Platinum, only 1 black controller among all of them though. No component A/V cables that I know of. The "digital output" is a complete lie though. Component and D-Terminal (and VGA) are analog signals.

believe me I am a video professional I know all about the inputs types, I might be interested in getting a Game Cube but I am not in a position to spend any money right now.

My cube gives me an error message after about 25 minutes of play, it's a bummer.

I'm not 100% sure but I think considering the marketing of the day I figure when they advertised it as digital they meant for use with digital TV's because back then people didn't know the difference between HD TV's and digital TV's. I am not too sure the average user knows the differences even now.

That would be some shitty marketing. Analog is analog. Component video was on many SDTVs for years before HDTVs were even remotely mainstream.

Component Cables are 100% digital. 1080p is a digital signal, even though it has analog capabilities. Just like you can send 480i over HDMI.

Component cables cannot do 1080p, only 1080i. Component is completely analog.

Component cables are 100% analog. And yes, component can most certainly do 1080p (it's up to the device and the receiver - Xbox 360 does 1080p over component, s does PS3 aside from Blu Ray playback). Nile Boogie Returns I have no idea where you heard any of that, every bit of it (aside from 480i over HDMI) is wrong.

Ok let be make this distinction:

SDTV that also have Component Cable Inputs are Analog

HDTV that also have Component Cable Inputs are Digital

The physical cable used is the same however the source determines the "Signal Current"

The former predates the latter so I understand the why we think in these terms  but not that it matters one way or the next. Kinda like Coaxial Cable which is wondrously versatile but is both Ani and Digi.

Basically. It depends if the source outputs Y'CbCr or Y'PbPr (or can do both).

Correct me if I'm wrong, but it's always been my understanding that:

...the port *is* Digital Out.

...inside the official Component Cables is a "DAC" Chip ("DAC" standing for "Digital-to-Analog Conversion")

Thus, the is nothing incorrect about calling it a Digital-Out port...

I am not sure, I tried doing some research on Google and nothing came up definitive. There are some HDMI hacks out there but I am not sure how legit they are.

I was looking that up too and am prepared to put my foot in my mouth if that's the case. I don't see Nintendo being that "advanced" though.

The idea that the DAC chip is in the cable is supposedly why there are no third-party cables (too expensive and not enough demand) and why the cables were so expensive from Nintendo to begin with ($50 was the original price on these things).

Uncle is right, that is one of the reasons the Official cables cost so damned much is because of that  conversion chip (at last count they were $180.00 used ). But the off-brand, mad-catz, pelican etc, don't have that chip inside.

*EDIT. clearly my reply is late, as always.

I have five...

And paid $3-$5 for four of those sets (the fifth was ordered from Nintendo at full price).

I can't say I haven't been tempted to list an eBay auction with my sealed WaveBird, Sealed GameBoy Player and a Component Cable.  Just to see.

If I can find it all I have VGA, Component, Composite, Coaxial, and I'm fairly sure I have S-Video as well for my Gamecube.

It started life hooked to a monitor in my dorm room.
