Could this be Retro's next game?

From looking at the URLs, I'd say this is realistic concept art for the old Midway arcade game, Joust.  I doubt Retro would be working on a game based on a sort of outdated franchise owned by Midway.  I guess it's possible that it is for part of a different game and he noticed a similarity to Joust when he was naming the files.  I sometimes do that.  Cool artwork, anyway.

Well that one humanoid figure looks like something that would fit in a Metroid game, but that dragon looking thing made me think "RAVEN BLADE!"...But then again, it might be nothing at all... ^_^

I'd say that this likely isn't anything official, just personal sketches from one of the lead Retro guys.  Those are certainly concepts for a Joust remake which isn't likely ever going to materialize.  Anything Nintendo had in progress would be NDA'd and he wouldn't be posting it.

It certainly does resemble some aspects of the Metroid artwork, but I suspect that Bloodworth is right about this.

They are probably going to have a similar style from game to game.  I don't really see that.  I agree with the above myself.

And for the record, that guy is a pretty incredible artist.  I like his series of self-portraits on the main page.  That's a really cool idea.

I like it, what ever it is.  I like the robot with the three limbs.  It could all be for the next Metroid game which could take Samus to different planets with different/ more fantasy civilizations.

Andrew Jones, aka Android if I got that right (though this nick isn't listed I've heard the name being mentioned in Joust 3d related threads and google seems to confirm this), is one of the concept artists of Joust 3d, a freeware game in development during the spare time of various highly skilled artists and coders throughout the industry. If you read through the team list and know a bit about those names you'll recognize it as something dangerously close to a "best-of".

I think they got the go-ahead from Midway (though they probably have at least one Midway employee on their team) to make the game. It's going to be more of a tribute to Joust. Oh, and it'll be for the PC only, of course.

Are you insinuating that Retro might have salvaged Ravenblade and transformed it into a Final Fantasy for the Revolution?  I feel that a Metroid game should be priority two for Nintendo (number one being a Mario Bros. game) if they really use this gyration stuff.  Something original from Retro or an established franchise like Final Fantasy would be great, but I really want a next generation Metroid asap.
