It's baffling that a system with no new games can sell 75,000 five months after release before becoming a phoenominon. Even the DS wasn't that strong doing its initial quiet spell.

Someone needs to remake the prints money thing with Iwata instead of the DS.

The Wii is a HOT commodity right now (along with DS of course), so everyone must own one or you cannot call yourself Japanese. Besides if you were gonna get one you should try to do so before the stupendously long lines that would occur during Golden Week, and since SPM just came out, the sooner you get yours the better.

If Nintendo keeps this controller shortage going for long enough, they can also keep Wii Play selling very well. I wouldn't be surprised if when they come out with new controller colors, they release new version of WiiPlay to go with them. WiiPlay 2.0 with more updated Atari games, and controller demos.

As far as the NPD #'s go though, there is not very much to discuss there other than the fact that PS2 beat the Wiii lolzers!!!111 but we all know the Wii is very supply constrained and Nintendo really needed to turn up their manufacturing power. We won't see what happens with that until April NPD, so the wait is back on. PS3 gets beat by the GBA again LOLZERS!!!1111oneone!!11 har har har. I'm almost starting to feel bad for what Sony has done to the Playstation brand. I'm very tempted to see the amount of hilarity that must be going on over at UK resistance with the release of these NPD #'s.

I think we can garner even more U.S. game sales data from released charts...

This is the original source of the charts...

Here I'm posting the Wii portion...

Quote

And now the console charts, all of which are ranked by gross income.

...

Wii

1) Wii Play With Remote - $13,573,160 grossed; 272,919 units sold
2) Tiger Woods PGA Tour 07 - $6,048,062 grossed; 121,428 units sold
3) Sonic And The Secret Rings
4) Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess
5) Warioware: Smooth Moves
6) Cooking Mama: Cook Off
7) Rayman Raving Rabbids
8) SSX Blur
9) Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles - $1,454,085 grossed; 29,226 units sold
10) Call of Duty 3 - $1,114,600 grossed; 25,347 units sold

...

If you want to see more Data, like the PS2 charts, or the GC chart which shows that TP(GCN) sold another 45k units on that console in the month, or the XBox chart where Halo 2 sold 49k units, or the expansion-packed PC charts or the XBox360 chart or the PS3 chart where Godfather ranks at #8 even though it's not on the Wii chart... Follow the link to the original source!

That said, We finally get a glimpse of SSX Blur, Raving Rabbids and CoD3 are still sticking in there, I'm happy for Sonic and the Secret Rings, and I REALLY HOPE that EA advertises their games more... which is what some believe is holding back their sales of Godfather or SSX Blur.

So, IGN Reports the Nintendo fiscal year results.

23 million DS's sold this year (40m Lifetime). And 5.84 million Wii's.

They project to sell another 22 million DS's within the next year and 14 million Wii's.

...Which is to say that they expect to sell almost as many Wii's in 1.5 years as they did GameCube's in 5 years.

SCHWEET.  That would also probably put it slightly ahead of 360 unless Microsoft starts selling more fast.

Yay for Super Paper Mario!  Can it hang on to the chart like Wii Sports and Wii Play?  Probably not, it doesn't have the same "Wiiness" about it, but hopefully it'll manage a few weeks in the top 10 anyway.
That's my opinion, not yours.

You know I just notice but the last two weeks Nintendo has had 21 games in the top 30 and Sony has had 9.

Also it seems one of the games had a weirdness in its title causing the parser to miss parse.

Fate/Stay Night (Realta Nua) is published by Kadokawa Shoten.  Sorry  about the inconvenience though I believe actual game link is for the right series upon looking at it.  Pretty interesting actually I wouldn't mind reading it.

Well look here

Quote

Older titles continued to sell well through the quarter, including Rainbow Six Vegas with 1.7 million sold to date; Rayman and Red Steel, which have sold 830K and 950K respectively; and The Petz series of games which sold 3.5 million during the fiscal year.

Well that should answer everyone's question about third party sales.  Red Steel it set to hit the million mark anytime now and it looks like Rayman has a good chance of selling a million as well.  This goes to show that Third Parties can do very well on the Wii.

Now hopefully since Ubisoft knows their games can sell well on a Nintendo system they'll finally increase the quality.

I just had a funny thought; it would be really amusing if Wii outsold Xbox 360 this month (despite the Elite coming out).  I think I read somewhere that Microsoft is going to have 200K units available at "launch" (source needed; maybe I'm making that up).  Com'on Nintendo!  Ramp up production and make it happen.

That is GREAT news for third party support. Hopefully we get better games now though. RedSteel's controls and gameplay and fun level design pales in comparison to both FarCry and Call of Duty.

The sun, for sorrow, will not show his head:
Go hence, to have more talk of these sad things;
Some shall be pardon'd, and some punished:
For never was a story of more woe
Than this of Sega and her Mashiro.

Looks like PS3 is on a slow but steady decline. Next week is Golden Wiik, so its basically Sony's last chance to sell Japan on a PS3 before it's officially considered a failure, and the game they are bringing to the table is....... Madden '07. If Sony doesn't push a significant amount of PS3's out the door for next weeks charts (which we might not see for two weeks), then PS3 will be a "buy for a game, return after you beat it" system. Its no wonder KK has been slowly getting pushed out the door.

edit: Just incase no one noticed, the Wii has outsold all other consoles listed below it combined. Also the DS now has a 1million+ unit lead over the GBA and is rapidly closing in on the PS2.

I'll give Sony to the end of the year to turn it around...at that point, I think it's too late to fix things in Japan.
That's my opinion, not yours.

So the PS3 is in a slow decline... while the 360 also slumps compared to last week. Color me surprised. I figured there would be enough disfranchised Playstation fans to see the 360 rise a little in the country; however, these seem to be, primarly, jumping into the Wii camp.

Can't complain, though.

Best buy here got 90 units in on thursday, I just happened to take off that day and there were like 12 units left sitting on the floor when I got there at 12 'o clock.  I didn't think I'd ever get one till the end of the year.
