Final Fantasy IV DS
« on: May 09, 2007, 06:11:40 AM »
Guess what? Square-Enix is remaking FFIV in 3D for the DS.
As much as I love FF, I think S-E is milking the cow to death on this one.
I already have 2 versions (PSOne and GBA), I'm kind of tired of buying the same game over and over again (not that I have to but yeah, you get the point).

Hmm, weird art style. Is Cecil supposed to look so... dainty?

Eh, whatever, I'll probably still get it. I haven't bought it since the SNES, so for me it's still fresh.

I will be getting this, I have Final Fantasy IV on SNES, PSOne, & GBA.  But I will get this because FFIV is my favorite.

since I-VI are already available on DS, I'd rather have SE port VII-IX to the DS instead....

It's really pissing me off that all Nintendo users are seeing are ports of the same freaken Final Fantasy games that we got durring the GBA era while the PSP is getting all the other Square games that we've been wanting to see as ports.

I don't give a flying F**k about a 3D remake of Final Fantasy IV, I bought IV when it came out on the GBA a little over a year ago. Okay sure its nice and I might buy it. Buy why the hell can't we get some games that Nintendo fans haven't played? Why can't we get DS remakes of FFVII-IX or Tactics or Dragon Quest or Star Ocean or Valkyrie Profile or Secret of Manna or Chrono Cross/Gear?

I might be the biggest die hard Sqaure fan here, and I'm getting royally pissed off with what Square is doing.

We are getting Tactics sequel. (PSP is getting an enhanced port of a PSone game)
We are getting Dragon Quest IX. (not a spin off, but the 9th game of the biggest RPG franchise in Japan!)
We are getting Rings of Fate. (a DS sequel to the GCN game, also getting a separate Wii sequel as well)

There are more, but I'm not going to list them.

Blame that on Square's "we must show equal support" belief, meaning that some games will be featured on the wrong console and such.

I agree, though. They should focus on bringing games that gamers want or have been ignored in the last few years.

Don't get me wrong nitsu, I'm very happy that Nintendo is getting more new content then the PSP, but none the less I rather not have another batch of remakes of FFIV-VI. It sucks that all we get are remakes of the Nintendo era Final Fantasy games while the PSP gets all the rest of the Square library.

The only original PSP titles from Square-Enix that I know of are Crisis Core and the recent, Dissidia: Final Fantasy. After that, they have remakes of FF 1 and 2, remakes of the first 2 Star Ocean titles (just announced), a port of Final Fantasy Tactics, and a port of Valkyrie Profile: Lenneth.

Add Reverent Wings and Children of Mana to nitsu niflheim's list of original DS titles above.

Support seems pretty even. And seeing how port happy Square-Enix is, I wouldn't be surprised if they port some of those PSP titles on Wii.

FFT port on PSP is an FFT remake.  Well, they upped the graphics and added voice acting to the new cut scenes and added the Onion Knight, whatever that is.

it's not surprising since square recently said somewhere (or at least I think I read it. I could just be putting in what I perceived them to be saying) they were focusing their attention on bringing their old games to new fans instead of focusing on newer stuff. and making everything legacied, like how we already have 3 FFXIII games before it's even close to being out. mostly cause it's cheaper and easier for them and makes more money.

I might look into this since I don't own the original, but I think Square Enix is getting reeeeally lazy lately.

They're not even making the FF remakes themselves. Most of their remakes are farmed out. And they're not even remaking the games people want remade. Ok, Star Ocean 1 and 2 are pretty sweet. Still, no one is clawing for a FFIV remake. Where's Chrono Trigger? Secret of Mana? Seiken Densetsu 3? Final Fantasy 7-9?

So yeah, lazy... and lame!

The art style is REALLY not doing it for me.  I actually find it offensive.  I have FFIV for the GBA... I don't think I'll be going anywhere near this game.

Offensive?  It looks like the avatars from the original put into 3D to me.

While nobody is shouting for a Final Fantasy IV remake, I hate to say it...but I do think it will make way more money than a Chrono Trigger remake.  Every time they redo one of the games it seems to sell nicely.  Except when it's on PSP.

A full scale CT remake on the Wii . . . would sell 5 million copies I have no doubt in my mind.

Is it because they all look like little kids rather than seasoned warriors?

Yeah, the maturity level is part of it.  The other part of it is their huge, misshapen heads.  They all look like ALIENS for crying out loud.  I'm all for interesting art styles; I loved Wind Waker and I especially loved Dark Cloud 2.  This is just nowhere close to the way I imagined the characters when playing on the SNES and GBA.  Not even on the same planet.  :P
