Well first of all, it's fun as hell to have a big gathering to play game X even if it only happens rarely. Plus, any game that involves strategy or is better to play if you can't see each other's screen improves with LAN. But it's better than online because sh!t talking is even more prevalent when you can't avoid it, thus making it more fun. Plus, it's your friends your playing and your's or your buddy's place so after playing you can do some other fun sh!t like grill out and drink beer.

This can't be done with the online? As long as you have broadband wireless, it should still work, right?

So...

Why the complaining then? No broadband? Lag concerns? Afraid of servers shutting down in nine years?

Yes, but you'll still experience lag and connection issues.

So I take it with Bwii  everything is routed through a Nintendo server? You couldn't trick it?

I dunno about 1 disk LAN...which actually sounds like a dumb idea for a console, but does make sense for a portable.

I don't understand why this is a concern.  If you are forced to use Friend Codes anyway, all you have to do is go to a convention center or anywhere with Wifi support and you can all play online like playing LAN.  The closeness of the systems should prevent any lag...and it would be the same thing.

I thought Nintendo's WiFi Connection was simply a matchmaking service anyway?  Any LAG you experience is because of your direction connection with the other player.

It's a poor excuse of a direct connection if you're both in the same room yet the Wii units have to communicate through the same pipe to the same ISP, unlike being wired to the same router.

LAN play Atomic Bomberman for PC was the sh!t back in tha day.

What we really wanted was for 2 nearby Wii units to communicate directly to each other wirelessly, no router, no internet, just send/receive brain waves.

Considering that they have built-in wi-fi similar to that of the DS, that really should be possible. Shame they haven't done more with that.
