---Sooo...maybe they cut back on the graphics to leave processor power for real-time sword and whip play? Trying to be optimistic here...

I think "it's just your textbook licensed crap" is the most likely situation.

Yeah, the only difference between this and other licensed brand games is that this particular licensed game is... so far... exclusive to Wii.

Have you bothered to investigate the developer's previous works Pittboi? They're mostly in the cell phone gaming scene... with one or two un ambitious licensed PC games and one console title to their name: a spongebob racer?

It's great to see them snag a great franchise and get ambitious, but the game will have to be carried more on solid gameplay design elements and actual fun design rather than the sort of technical prowess and expensive FX that, say, established, big, non-scraping-by third parties can bring to the project.

Hey, can't say I wasn't a little bit excited by the possibilities, despite the developer's history.

I mean, wasn't last gen the gen of the great game from the out-of-the-blue developer?

Yes, and those games looked really, really, bad technically.

Not when they were released.

Retro came out of nowhere, if I remember correctly. And GTA was a great looking game for it's time, especially when you considered all that it was doing.

Someone was probably swinging a Wii Remote around and did the trademark "Z"-slash of Zorro's and thought this was a good idea.  Then they spent just as long developing it.

From what I heard fencing would work the best out of all sword styles you could put on the Wii because the sword doesn't see much resistance during a contact whereas, say, a lightsaber would come to a dead stop when you hit the enemy blade while your controller cannot force you to stop.

GTA was hardly a last generation release.  GTA3, maybe.  But there's a reason for that three.  It's the third game.
Retro was a fluke, and had the benefit of Nintendo's help.

If you'd been following DMA Design ever since the N64 years, then GTA 3 wouldn't have been the surprise everyone makes it out to be.

It actually looks like PS2 to me... lol.

This game will probably compete with Sega' PSP port Alien Syndrome for most disappointing graphics of the year title.

I think the graphics are so bad because the last game this company made was for cellphones.

Still, they're early shots so they might get better.

eheh... sorry! I don't mean to, really!

It's just... well... these ARE small developers after all, living hand-to-mouth, paycheck-to-paycheck, game deal to game deal. They can't ALL be EA you know.

The thing is with fencing you movee towards and away.  By far that is the standard action that the Wiimote ha the most trouble with in my experience.  I was playing Trauma center last night and I was on the bomb mission and I had to grab the little plugs and pull them out.  Most of the time it wouldn't even register that I was pulling it out making a miss.  I had similar problems with the Zoom in Super Swing Golf.

why don't they even try? its pretty depressing that the best looking wii game is a damn gamecube game.

Pubs did a lot of "trying" with BIG budgets and heavy optimizations/engineering last gen.

They're burned out, and they still want to maximize their dollar with low dev costs even if it means eye-fukking you with a cactus.

If only this had the theme song and music from the 1950's Disney TV show I would buy it in an instant, regardless of graphics... but, alas...

At worst, it looks like a Dreamcast game. Let's not blow this out of proportion just for the sake of it.
