I thought the first was a success here? Plus Nintendo co-published, correct? I think it will get here eventually.

There's still been no word on Bravely Second releasing in NA, is there? I've got a bad feeling about it...
I wouldn't be so worried since the first game was a success and reported as such.

It is quite possible that we will be waiting for and getting the upgraded International Version or For The Sequel of Bravely Second.

I never could figure out why certain regions get different price points but Splatoon is selling in Japan at 5250 yen ($42) but it's retailing in the US at $60?  Has Nintendo set the price on Splatoon for NA or is that just the suggestion retail pricing?

Square just seems weird lately, so it's tough to tell what might happen. Like how they didn't release Dragon Quest VII for 3DS despite the success of IX, and plus RPGs still seem popular enough on the 3DS.

I already got jerked out of Fantasy Life 2 so if I get jerked out of Bravely Second as well I'm going to be pissed.  It damn well better get released here.

The sad thing is that it was successful, apparently surprisingly so for Square Enix, so that should make it cut and dry, right?  It's not a mobile game like Fantasy Life 2, it is a 3DS game and the first one was successful here so why wouldn't they localize it?  The only problem is that Japanese videogame companies all went crazy around 2007 or so so now we can't rely on the rational decision to be made.

That's the only reason we're even the least bit worried right?  Because Square Enix is run by crazies?  Ten years ago I wouldn't even second guess anything.  The first game was a hit and they're making a sequel?  Well of course we're getting it.

I think the issue is less that Square-Enix is crazy so much as the entire Japanese gaming industry has spent the last 2-3 years trampling over each other to flee the video game industry and find "safe haven" in the mobile market. It seems like every Japanese developer except Atlus & Platinum have already made moves or outright stated their intention to leave the market.

Square-Enix has already made it clear in their last investor meeting that they intend to do as little publishing in NA as possible, with the focus on other companies shouldering their financial burden. Bravely Default was a modest (but not an overwhelming) success in NA because Nintendo of America published it. The only way you'll see Bravely Default 2 in NA is if Nintendo of America once again shoulders the financial burden of localization and distribution.

Man, sure Nintendo's making a profit but those WII U numbers are sure ugly and it doesn't look like Nintendo has any more faith in it coming back with that forecast of only 3.4 million for a year.

I'm not expected to see much at E3 for the WII U other than the already announced titles.

You know, Nintendo, maybe the console would show a bit more life if you put a bit more effort into it.

Such a downer. Though there's no other way to be when Nintendo tracks the console at shy of 13 million as it's a few months older than 3 years.

Scary food for thought: How they managed the Wii U is their best effort.

Well, best effort without blowing their bank, making riskier bets, and having more overhead.

I don't buy that. Sure, they're at a disadvantage because of those factors, but if they actually involved third parties in the process of developing a system and didn't wait until right before the competitors released their successors to launch it they could certainly do better than they did with Wii U.

Bingo. In a vacuum, this was one of the Nintendo's best efforts. The amount of high quality software produced by Nintendo and its partners is enough to rival previous consoles. In two years we got so many games from so many franchises and IPs. There just wasn't enough care put into third parties.

I think there was a fair bit of hubris in the Wii U.  I think they figured it was similar enough to the Wii formula that the gravy train would just keep rolling.  The whole thing felt rather half-assed to me.  Even if you like the approach of outdated hardware and wacky controllers I don't feel Nintendo made a very good effort with it.  They can do better.

At least on the bright side for Nintendo, the Wii U shows they were able to keep their hardcore fanbase still intact.  Right now the best selling Wii U game is at 5.1 million copies, while the Gamecube's best selling game did 7.4 million.  Considering the huge attachment rate Mario Kart 8 continues to have, there's a good chance it's going to either match or surpass Melee when it's all said and done, despite Wii U being millions of units behind at best.

Actually if we go even farther.

Gamecubes Top 5 best sellers.

Smash Bros Melee: 7.4 million
Mario Kart: Double Dash: 6.9 million
Sunshine: 5.9 million
Wind Waker: 4.4 million
Luigi's Mansion: 3.3 million

As of March 31st, 2015 the Wii U's Top 5.

Mario Kart 8: 5.1 million
NSMB U: 4.8 million
Nintendo Land: 4.7 million
Mario 3D World: 4.1 million
Smash Bros: 3.7 million

So despite hardware sales being much lower, the top sellers are on track to reaching or surpassing their Gamecube counterparts.  So basically Nintendo's hardcore fanbase has still remained the same since the Gamecube era, it's just everyone else who might have bought the system for non-Nintendo games has left.  Which makes since considering Nintendo's literally the only one publishing anything for it.

I think Wonderful 101, Bayonetta 2, and Devil's Third is the Wii U equivalent to the Gamecube's Capcom 5.

Those sales are horrible, no matter how you look at it, but just crushingly bad compared to the Wii. Mario Kart Wii sold over 35 million copies. New Super Mario Bros Wii has sold about 30 million. It sucks, but Nintendo really fucked up with the Wii U. That doesn't mean that the console isn't fun, and that the games are no good, just that no one is buying them. I'm surprised Smash Bros. has done so poorly, but I guess the 3DS version probably hurt the Wii U version's sales.

You're right, but at the same time sales numbers of just about anything look bad compared to those Wii numbers. 10 years ago the best selling non pack-in ever was Mario 3 at about 19 million, and Nintendo just obliterated that with the DS and Wii.

Someone should put together a chart (as best you can) with console sales by year (from launch - I.e.: Wii launched in Nov 2006, so "year one" sales for Wii would be Nov'06-Nov'07, while Wii U launched Nov '13, so it'd get Nov '13-'14 in that same "year one" slot) for last gen and this gen systems.

I tried poking around and doing some quick research.  It's not easy to find this info.
