Are you sure?  TBAAFFSG...I like the sound of that.  Has a nice ring to it, kind of in the vein of MMORPG.

Anyway, Jessmo26, from what I can tell, you essentially want the GameCube to have a lot of RPGs.  However, you're ignoring the fact that there are around three or four high-budget and highly-rated titles that are coming out this year (Paper Mario 2, Baiten Kaitos, Fire Emblem, and Tales of Symphonia come to mind), ones which are either GCN exclusive, or are coming out first on the GCN.  Why not focus on those games rather than the ones that are coming out rather than the ones that aren't?

I assume that this will be locked momentarily, but a quick question before it is locked...

Why is it that you didn't just find a picture yourself and resize it?

What's funny is that someone would believe this was real.  Look at the picture of Halo running on it, and it screams "fake".  If it were LCD, it would look different, as would it if it were a CRT.  Plus, the camera would never be able to take a picture like that.

What I find even funnier is that the way he controls it is off.  He does nothing when he presses some buttons and does something when he doesn't.

Exactly what KDR said.  XNA is DirectX 10 with a different name.  However, the XBox 2 will fully support XNA, which means many of the effects will be available.  The XBox 2 wouldn't be able to do anything that well, though.

Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes looks much better than Metal Gear Solid 2.  Polygon counts are higher, there are higher resolution textures, bump-mapping is present on characters (not sure about environments), shadows are higher resolution, animation I found to be a little bit smoother, lightmaps are applied to the environments better, and characters' shadows and such are affected better by the light sources.  The only thing that is inferior is the framerate, but once you get past that, it's fine.

Yeah.  Extreme will keep you occupied for a long time.  It took me more than an hour to get past the first room, even without Intrusion Mode.

You know a console isn't doing well when they have to redesign it just a few months after it's launch.

There isn't a huge difference in the lighting effects.  Really, they're not big at all.

And the graphics in Rebel Strike are better (although I still think the water is atrocious), but the framerate is much more unstable.  The ground missions are awful and the space ones are more unstable than the ones in Rogue Leader.  There are noticable improvements, of course.  However, does that mean that one should sacrifice framerate for them?  I would much rather have a few less lighting effects and polygons (the higher poly counts aren't even that noticable thanks to the TV's resolution) and a stable framerate rather than some relatively small improvements and an unstable framerate.

And graphics, of course, don't save Rebel Strike from being inferior to Rogue Leader in just about every way when it comes to gameplay.

I couldn't care much less about this.  All this means is that they won't be making any more games for the GameCube.  That just means that they can concentrate even more on doing stuff for Nintendo's, Microsoft's, and Sony's next consoles.

I agree with the freedom comment, but I've got to say that Splinter Cell definitely gives off a better sense of stealth in my opinion.  Shooting out lights, low tolerance for bullets, and alarm limits seem to make getting spotted a lot more consequential.  TTS also has five hours of cut-scenes, which are obviously better than SC, but I still felt like Metal Gear's long and frequent scenes never gave me a chance to dig into the game for more than five minutes without interruption.

So I don't know that I could ultimately rate one as better than the other, but those are my thoughts.

I agree.  Metal Gear Solid (at least The Twin Snakes) allows you to go rambo-style in almost every situation that there is.  That's the main problem.  You are never really forced to use stealth.  It is an optional thing.  While freedom is good, it is constantly emphasised throughout the game that it is a sneaking mission, and yet you can run rampant throughout the military base spraying FAMAS bullets everywhere.

As for cutscenes, that's more of a problem with the original game than anything else.

That is made up by having more enemies coming at you at once...The fact that you are being overwhelmed is where the scare factor will come in...

Exactly.  That, and the fact that the horror is more psychological than anything else.  Since there are apparently "normal" characters as well, you won't know who to trust.  I'd take that over cheap shock horror any day of the week.

If only the majority of these sequels were truly great games that improved in every way upon the originals.  Unfortunately, most of them are just rush-jobs in order to feed off of the original game's success.  By the time people realise that the sequel is inferior to the original, and they regret buying it, it's too late.  That's the kind of thing that Ubi Soft and EA feed off of.

Of course, that doesn't mean that there aren't good sequels...rather, they're just few and in-between.

You can always just play it on Very Easy or Easy again, you know.

And here's something everyone could try at home: When Snake and Meryl can run around together, shoot Meryl with the M9. OK, besides that, make Snake continuously walk up against Meryl and make sure their game models/bodies maintain contact. (Snake, you brute!)

That was great...gotta love the little details that SK puts into their games.  I'm quite surprised, though...I didn't think that Meryl was strong enough to do that.

I don't know how many of you were paying attention to it at the time, but prior to Metal Gear Solid 2's release, nothing of Raiden's mission had been shown. Every video and screenshot was from the Tanker section. It's hardly an impossibility that the jungle section only makes up a small part of the game before it reverts to more familiar territory.

What you say is true, but I'd like to see proof that the jungle is in fact set in the 1960's.  As far as I know, this is pure speculation based on the trailer and there has been no confirmation at all of anything.

Oh, and it's been confirmed that most of the game will take place in the jungle, but the latter portion (around 30% from what I can remember) will be traditional indoor sneaking.

It's not confirmed that Metal Gear Solid 3 is in the 1960's.  After all, why would it be called Metal Gear Solid 3 if it's a prequel?  I think that the storyline just contains references to what happened in the 1960's.  Plus, Snake is show to be using newer technology such as thermal goggles and electronic binoculars.

If you don't submit to the torture, Meryl lives, and you get the "good" ending.  As for the vaccine, Snake doesn't get it...it isn't revealed in The Twin Snakes if he is cured or not...but I can't remember if it is in Metal Gear Solid 2.

Nintendo Gaming / RE: Paper Mario2 announced!!!
« on: March 31, 2004, 10:50:38 AM »
Gotta love it.  The first Paper Mario was a blast, and if they can fix up the difficulty (a bit easy near the end), and the length (not too short, but not your typical RPG length), then it'll be a great game.  I have confidence that they'll live up to the original, even surpass it.

That looks incredible...those are by far the best console graphics I've seen, and the gameplay actually looks much more interesting than I thought it would be.  The boat scene is particularily stunning.  It's hard to believe that this really is Resident Evil.  I just hope that the camera is a little more versitile in the game (look around more easily) and that there are more gameplay elements than the ones shown.

Who knows...I've never been interested in Resident Evil, but this may convince me to buy it.

I've seen that a million times over.  It's true that they did go to a lot of work with the specifications, but the renders themselves aren't that good...it's too good-looking.  Add a bit of texture or slight imperfections or something.

Oh, and I also hate the design.

You can also use grenades to get the tank treads (although harder).  With the C4, I'm pretty sure that it has to be detonated manually (using the B button).  He is pretty tough at first, but after a couple of tries he really is pretty easy.

Here's what you do...

Get FireFox.

It'll stop just about all of those kinds of things.  For removing "scumware" (better-known as spyware/adware) from your computer, get Ad-aware 6.0.

That should help you out.

Nintendo Gaming / RE: A Mario and Sonic adventure...
« on: March 24, 2004, 10:12:36 AM »
You can't really combine those two gaming universes effectively.  Why not?  It'd be like putting Zelda and Final Fantasy or Halo and Metroid Prime together.  They're similar games when you look at them at first, but you can clearly see the huge differences between them.  Sonic is fast, Mario is slow.  Sonic has linear levels, Mario has free-roaming.  Sonic is "cool", Mario is just...well, Mario.  Combining these two just wouldn't feel right at all.

I believe that you have to submit to Ocelot's torture in order to get the Stealth Camoflauge.  I haven't done it myself, though.
