Yes, more or less. "Exist" was perhaps a sloppy word choice. I mean to say that this game would be fundamentally different if it controlled like, say, Mario 64. The challenges that constitute the game's levels are designed specifically around the unique movement capabilities of the snake. Playing it with a more traditional control scheme, featuring a jump button and no wriggling, would break the game, not to mention look ridiculous. It would be like playing Super Mario Brothers as the ship from Gradius: technically feasible, definitely easier, but perhaps missing the point. Video games have the potential to inhabit us in all sorts of bodies, with unique movement systems. Much as I love Mario, I am glad we are not beholden to it.

The controls are the reason to play this. This game could not exist with traditional controls.

Finally! Excitebike 64 has gone forgotten for too long.
Also, now pretty much every Excite game is playable on the Wii U. Maybe the Satellaview version is next! /joking

Idiotic complaints about Zelda games make up about half of their discussion anyway, historically: "Why doesn't this look edgy?" "Why is this so linear?" Making the games more inclusive isn't going to change that. For example, you're complaining because you're terrified that ONE of a dozen iterations of Link having the OPTION of being female will somehow force all  future developer decisions to succumb to the evil desires of "progressives". You're so scared of losing your special male access to representation in mainstream media that you don't even want the choice of gender to be available.  Maybe you've been the snowflake all along.

This is why I keep my physical N64 around. There were so many great games that stand no chance of getting officially re-release.

I'm still mad that Nintendo dropped the NES Zapper so early in the console life cycle. NOBODY WANTS YOUR HALF HEARTED GIMMICKS NINTENDO
