Nintendo Gaming / Goldeneye Meet-Up Thread

So we had one of these for The Conduit and it kept some of the smack talk and meet-up talk out of the main thread.

So if your going to play a round or to discuss a round you just played do it here!

I will probably be on later tonight to play a few rounds.

Hey our high school band went to Chicago last weekend to play in the Festival of Gold and we won! Our schools band has a long tradition of excellence and has one Superior Ratings from the North Carolina State festival for 58 straight years and has won competitions at Carnegie Hall, Boston Symphony Hall, and The Kennedy Center. We are under the direction of Fran Shelton who works us really hard but when we win it is worth it! I am trying to spread the word about us since we are really great and from a tiny town in North Carolina.

If you follow that Digg link you will find a video of us playing Wild Nights by Frank Ticheli at the Encore Concert at Orchestra Hall since we won. It's a really kickass song by a kickass band!

It would be great if you could Digg this!

General Gaming / Mass Effect 2
« on: February 01, 2010, 11:32:39 PM »
Anyone else pick this up yet? I just did after I beat Mass Effect 1 on PC for the save to transfer.

I am only an hour in but DAMN! It's amazing, Bioware seemed to have fix just about everything. It feels much tighter in combat and has already gotten me to go "holy ****".

If you even liked the first or if you liked it but had some issues I would highly recommend this because they seemed to have fixed a lot.

And in the first hour your decisions from Mass Effect 1 have already had an affect on 2.

General Gaming / Who is going to buy a PS3 Slim?
« on: August 17, 2009, 11:20:01 PM »
Ok, we all know its coming out and going to be announced tomorrow(18th) at GamesCon. Sony is like a leaky faucet. (Ok, so if tomorrow its not announced I will look like an idiot)

So who will buy one? What would make you buy one? Do you think this is a great move for Sony?

Well I am buying one day one since the PS3 is my main console. It will be nice not to have a monster in my home theater cabinet. If it is at a price of $299 this will be a turning point for Sony, the maker of the greater HD console....

The Official MLB Thread

Let have a place to discuss baseball!

This will probably get heated at times but lets try our best to keep it civil.

So post what your favorite teams, players, and stadiums are. Why you love baseball, and also thoughts on recent games and standings!

Division Standings

Wild Card

...

So my favorite team is the Boston Red Sox. I lived in Boston for a few years when I was little and fell in love with the Red Sox.

My favorite player is a hard one. I have many favorites but one that really comes to mind is Jonathan Papelbon. He has some electric stuff and has electric attitude when pitching, you give him the ball in the 9th and you can be pretty sure your going to win.

My favorite stadium is Fenway Park. Its the oldest, and its a special place. Not much beats sitting on the Green Monster in the middle of the 8th then Sweet Caroline coming on....

General Gaming / Good Bye Microsoft
« on: August 09, 2009, 01:20:42 AM »
So today I went to flip my 360 on to play COD4. Guess what! It wouldn't turn on! Not the red rings it wouldn't even power up! Unplugged everything, tried different cable everything. It has died. My 7th 360 to die except the other 6 where RRoD's, this wasn't. So Microsoft won't repair it for free! They would charge me $170 plus shipping! No thank you! Good bye Microsoft, my days gaming with you have ended. Hello Sony, you now are the maker of my console of choice! Hello to a bright and happy future in supporting Sony, Nintendo, and the PC for all my new gaming purchases! The Microsoft Xbox division is dead to me.

NWR Forums Discord / Neal Ronaghan: STALKER! (or a conspiracy?)
« on: August 01, 2009, 11:05:52 PM »
So we all know Neal Ronaghan (nron10), a apparently friendly and cool member of the NWR staff. OR SO WE THOUGHT! So I thought it was a little continent when said staff member went on vacation to Lake Lure a mere 35 minute drive from my location. A few days before he left on his trip on AIM he said quote "I am going to steal your stuff" (Or something similar) after I said it was interesting he was going to be so close to me.

One day I was talking to said staff member and he said he was coming to my town! I really started to wonder, and thought it was quite odd some person I have met on the internet was coming to my town. What are the odds this is a coincidence? I then thought, "Hey he doesn't know where I live so he can't find me". So I calmed down and stopped worrying.

So last night I went to a play at the local Flat Rock Playhouse it was Seven Brides for Seven Brothers. Just minutes ago I asked this staff member "go to my town?" He said he did and told me some things. But then he said he went to a play at Flat Rock Playhouse. I asked what play. He said "seven brides for seven brothers". I then asked what day he then said "yesterday". I asked "where did you sit?". His response"left side, halfway back". I sat on the left side and halfway back also. Said staff member was probably within feet of me and sat within seats or rows of me. This is proof enough that Neal Ronaghan is a STALKER!

But then it got interesting. I told our fearless PS3 trolling leader Jonathan Lindemann about one of his staff members stalking me. He asked "who". I said "Neal and asked him what he was going to do about it". He then made this statement at 10:46PM EST. "nothing, neal is my trained assassin". Is this a conspiracy at the highest level of NWR and who is the next victim?

Nintendo Gaming / Telltale says iPhone is more powerful than the Wii.
« on: July 29, 2009, 10:52:41 PM »
Thats just bullshit. I think someone is trying to defend a bad port.

http://wii.ign.com/articles/100/1009002p1.html

Wii has a 770mhz CPU and a 220mhz GPU, an iPhone has a 412mhz CPU. 3GS has a 600mhz CPU but no one is going to mess with that power when most people have the original or 3G thats clocked at 400mhz.

More powerful than a DS or PSP yes, Wii no.

Nintendo Gaming / Wow, Nintendo this is ridiculous....
« on: July 28, 2009, 03:58:38 PM »
So I was sitting in my room and just had opened Wii Sports Resort, then I went to put the box with the my other boxes on the shelf and I went "Holy Crap!".

Look at this!

That's pretty ridiculous if you ask me. Just think how much energy and space is wasted shipping these games. I don't have a single 360 game that came in a huge box.

Reader Reviews / Real Soccer 2009 Review (DSiWare)
« on: July 22, 2009, 05:41:00 AM »
Real Soccer 2009 Review

Real Soccer 2009 is one of the few full game experiences on DSiWare. Unlike many games put up on the service this one was not pulled apart into many little pieces. It is a port of the retail Real Soccer 2009 game, also made by Gameloft, but with a few extra DSi exclusive features.

Gameloft was able to create a very complete package for a DSiWare game. There many different modes to choose from. These range from your basic Exhibition games, to playing for the cup, and even playing a full season with a team. There are also many training modes so you can practice a certain move or play. There are 10 total modes to chose from. It is nice to see such a fully fleshed out game on DsiWare.

The game also includes multiplayer. Both people have to have DSi’s and own the game to play. I did not get to try this mode out to see how it worked though. It is a nice addition to have since not many DSi games have multiplayer modes.

With 50 different teams from all around the world there is no lack of variety. Just like most sports games, each team had different skills they are better at than others.

Gameloft chose to exercise a few of the DSi’s unique features when porting the game to DSiWare. These involve the camera. You can take a picture of your face and then paste it on a player. Or you can take a picture of something then have it wrap around a soccer ball. These aren’t groundbreaking features, but it is nice they put some work into doing something with the unique DSi’s features.

The graphics the game are very well done. The full 3D stadiums look really nice and fairly detailed. Though the player models are a little basic and the animations are a little choppy, it doesn’t take away from the overall experience. The graphics are in the middle of the pack of what DS games look like. They are nothing amazing but very solid.

Sound is not the strong suit of this game. There is a theme song in the menus, but its not that great of quality. There is no commentary during games either which is a disappointment. While in game you have the crowds chanting and the thump of the ball, but none of the sound effects are of very good quality.

With two control schemes, you take your pick between the traditional button layout, or touch screen controls. Playing a sports game with a D-pad can feel limiting and a little awkward, and it does here. You miss the full movement to get a player in an exact location. This applies to both control schemes, since they both use the D-pad for movement.
With the touch screen controls all your player movement is all done on the D-pad. But all your other moves are done with taps, or drawing lines or shapes on the touch screen. So draw a line to pass, or tap to change your player. But for some of the more complex moves you have to draw shapes, like triangles or a Z shape which gets confusing with so many moves to learn. The touch controls work, but feel gimmicky and hard to learn.

The traditional button layout was great and felt very satisfying to play with though. You could easily pull off any move in the game. Overall it felt like just another normal sports game, and was not too hard to learn with these controls.

The actual gameplay feels nice for the most part. The gameplay is fairly deep, you can swap players in a game, or change your formations mid game. There are tons of moves to pull of in the game. You can pick any strategy and easily use it. It takes some time orienting yourself to the gameplay. In the end it is a solid soccer game on a portable and plays well.

This is a great DSiWare game and shows that the service can have complete game experiences on it. The controls, gameplay, and graphics are all solid. Its a deep game with the 10 different modes and should keep you entertained for awhile. There are a few faults like the low quality sound and a medium learning curve but if you want a solid sports game on DSiWare, or just a full game on the service Real Soccer 2009 is well worth the 800 Nintendo Points.

Graphics- 7

Nice for a DS game but a few thinks are not the best like the player models and animations.

Sound- 5

One theme song that’s not that great. No commentary and just decent sound effects.

Control- 7.5

The touch controls are gimmicky but just using the buttons feels really nice and works.

Gameplay- 8

It is very deep in just a single game. You can change your formations, players mid game. It feels like a soccer game done right for a portable.

Lastibility- 9

If you get into the game you will have tons of fun with it. 10 modes from your basic Exhibition game to a full season. There is tons to do in the game.

Overall(Not an Average)- 7.5

A soccer game that has a few issues and can take time to get used to but overall a solid game. Especially for DsiWare.

General Gaming / Rock Band VS. Guitar Hero
« on: July 11, 2009, 06:23:13 PM »
So what do you prefer?

I think Rock Band is a lot better. It just an overall better package with such a big library of songs. I prefer the gameplay also because it doesn't make you want to through your guitar at the TV. It's just plain fun.

General Chat / Rant on State End of Course Tests
« on: June 07, 2009, 11:43:24 PM »
Geometry exam tomorrow. I am really afraid of this one. State tests are f'ing retarded! How can one test show how you did the whole year? Sitting in a room for 3 hours doing a stupidly put together tests shows nothing of how smart you are! It just adds stress to you which makes you feel stupid and is just frustrating! ARG!

Nintendo Gaming / What DS games to buy?
« on: March 31, 2009, 08:20:14 PM »
I really want to play more DS games. The last DS game I bought was Phantom Hourglass. I own that, Mario Kart, Metriod Prime, New Super Mario Bros, Phoenix Wright 1, Brain Age. Now I got an extra $100 laying around I want to spend on just DS games.

What should I buy? I like pretty much anything.
