Later this year, Nintendo said it plans to introduce for its GameCube console a new version of "Mario Party" that can be played without a controller.

"In the past, there have been people who have felt controllers are hard to deal with and did not play games, but this (game) will seek to appeal to those people," said Iwata.

Umm, WHOA?!? Could this explain the recent trademarks? I find this very interesting...

Ahahaha, nice. Hopefully it'll involve lots of waving and screaming at the TV while doing bum flops on the DK Konga drums and licking the GBA Player cartridge slot. Multiplayer will end up with neighbours calling the cops!

"I think they're having sexy parties next door!"
"OH WE'LL GET RIGHT ON THAT!"
*Cops show up and join in*

Very queer indeed.  I wonder if Nintendo is going to launch it's own "Eyetoy" for this game.
That's my opinion, not yours.

You don't need a controller for a game that doesn't exist. Maybe they'll finally let Mario Party rest in peace and only release a DVD box with no game.

If it is useable for a camera nintendo is likely to give a bunch of overweight gamers heart attacks with all the running and jumping and stuff the characters do in the mario party game. Or maybe it requires the commander pack, another trademark nintendo has though we have no idea what a commander pack would be.

I wonder how much this new peripheral will cost or perhaps it'll come included with Mario Party 6? (I hope so) I wasn't sure if I wanted to get the next Mario Party game... I've already had (and sold off) MP 1,2,4 and I still have 5 and each one just sorta felt like a remix over the other... maybe this new game will renew life into the series? (if it isn't so totally outrageous that it flops, that is) And the big Q is do we get to put our own faces on the characters like the new trademark logo seems to imply?

Has it been confirmed that the DS will not be a victim of connectivity? Cause I could see the touch-screen as fufilling the sparce quote by Iwata.

Are you suggesting that the DS is the new GC peripheral?  That they are gonna release a wireless connection to attach to the GC that links it to the DS and most likely the GBA too?

Are you also suggesting that maybe MP6 will be played using the DS with its touch screen as the controller allowing for 16 player mayhem via GC/DS connection all on one TV or even over the internet wirelessly?

That sounds intersting.

Yeah, that's got me looking at this game now. It used to be "just another Mario Party." Now it's "just another Mario Party but gooder." Yay for HAL.

We shall all wait in complete anxiousness. "Another Mario Party but worth buying" is more like it.
