Nintendo Gaming / Need for Speed Hot Pursuit 2....
« on: July 13, 2006, 12:42:54 PM »
...oh how I longed for the postman to deliver you to the open, waiting, salivating mouth of my Gamecube. Everyday I phoned home from work to see if you had appeared. Then you came into my life.....

and the mists of anticipation evaporated quicker than pseudo-friends when the coke's finished. With a frame-rate choppier than an epileptic lumberjack and cars that sound like a wasp trapped in a cookie jar, you let me down further than when my brother told me there was no Santa Clause. And the handling? Don't even mention the handling. I've driven some quality cars in my life, but never any that can't decide if they're trying to be a shopping cart or a kids toy with wheels of treacle.

Very, Very poor effort.

Nintendo Gaming / Pitfall

Did anyone here buy it? All the mags on this side of the pond tore it to pieces, saying it was uninspired, repetetive, formulaic, unoriginal pap, but boy, does it look sweeet in the screenshots. I notice you can pick it up quite cheap on Egay, so I was hoping to get a real opinion here...

General Gaming / The curse of Brand Loyalty
« on: July 01, 2006, 12:10:19 PM »
Do we all still suffer from it in 2006? I used to be such a Zealot, back in the day. As far back as the days of Atari STs versus Amigas, (ask your dad...) through Megadrive versus Snes, I was sometimes physically opposed to the counterpart to the machine I owned. more than once I ended up in a fist-fight in the playground (and once in a nightclub, FFS!) over 'which machine was better'. Latterly, I missed out on so many amazing games because I chose to have a Dreamcast over the PS2, talk about limited choice, but I never forgave Sony for the demise of the Saturn.

For the last few years, I've tried to redress that balance by buying all the machines and consoles I refused to have due to my own blinkered, narrow-minded stupidity. Now, 18 machines and 3000-odd games later I reckon I've satisfied my lust for past games and come to the conclusion that brand-loyalty is for losers and zealots. Surely it's the games that are important, not the machine?

What's still to come out for the Cube this year? How many titles are we to expect before Nintendo put the Cube out to pasture?

Nintendo Gaming / Magazines

What Nintendo magazines do you lot have in your respective countries?

Here in the UK we had, up until recently, 3 magazines - 1 official and two (better, IMO) unofficial.

N.O.M - Nintendo Official Magazine

CUBE - now deceased

N.G.C - temporarily stoppped and soon to be re-launched, in July, as NGamer.

What you got guys, and which do you like? Do you even bother with mags now we're all on superfast connections?

Or do you, like me, prefer to have the solid, reassuring glossy paper in your hands?

Nintendo Gaming / Returned to the fold..
« on: July 01, 2006, 01:13:56 AM »
Hi all, I've just returned to regular gaming after spending years building up a massive retro collection, then selling it all off and starting again. I've just gotten myself a 'Cube and a few games and thought I'd find me a decent forum to chat all things gaming again.  I seem to be searching in vain for any kind of decent track-based racer, though. I've got myself a copy of R:Racing Evolution on import (thanks Freeloader) but it's kind of lacking in the excitement area, tbh.

Can anyone advise me on the state of play regarding GC racing games, please.

*thinks - I've been away too long....*

Cheers
