Nintendo Gaming / RE: Get a FREE Nintendo DS!

> Our ads don't post all over our forums

Are you kidding?  I've seen more "Free DS" ads while browsing the forums than I've seen threads for free DSes (?)....

Not that I care at all... I just found it amusing.

It'd be interesting if someone managed to get this who didn't care about Acclaim's old video game stuff... imangine the prototypes and such one could score from this...

Yeah, they were pretty much the same game... that's why I said it was just as fun.

I've always kinda felt that we wern't really supposed to think of Wario Ware (GCN) as a seaperate game from the GBA version...  just a port with a few features added/taken away - to optimize the game for play on the GCN... basically, if you own one, you shouldn't buy the other... (although I did....)

The GameCube version is pretty fun...  in fact, it's just as fun as the Game Boy Advance version.

By clicking one of the random ads that keep showing up at the top and/or right of the screen...

Wasn't there threads that were getting locked for these kinds of schemes?

Nintendo Gaming / RE: Digital Controller Q's
« on: December 02, 2004, 04:25:41 PM »
Well, it's offical name (I believe) is the "Digital Controller"...  I don't know how GameCrazy does things in their registers, but I'm guessing if they can sort by console (GameCube), Company (Hori) and/or product (Hardware or Controllers), they should be able to pull it up...

TalkBack / RE: Independent and Objective Ratings System Initiated
« on: December 01, 2004, 04:55:03 AM »
>“The fact is, parents don’t know the half of what is going on in these games,” said David G. Kinney, CEO of Veritasiti Corporation, the parent company of both PSVratings and Current Attractions.

And this guy is hoping to change that?  Parents don't know what's in the games for the simple fact that they don't care.  Red, yellow and green bars on the cover aren't going to change a thing (except maybe getting pre-teen boys to want games that has a large, red bar under the "sex" catagory...)

This seems to make things yet more complicated...  I think the ESRB is okay, but the two changes I would make would be to make the ESRB completly independant from the industry and I'd go with the more understood "G", "PG", "PG-13", "R", and "NC-17" movie ratings that everyone is already familiar with.

"Look mom, can I get this new Pokémon game?"
"No Johnny, it's Fire Red!  It must be way too mature for you!"

Dangit, Nintendo is so doomed!

Seriously, this is awesome... I just wish there was someone nearby to play my DS against.

I'm surprised no one has pointed out the large number of GBA/GBASP units sold.  I believe the major factor in this number is all of the Wal-Mart stores that sold the original style Game Boy Advance for $40 on the day after Thanksgiving - I know our store got a butt-load of these things in (about 100, I believe) and we sold every single one on Friday.  And we're a tiny store (By comparison, we got six - yes six - DS units for launch.  If every one of the 3,000+ Wal Mart stores *only* got 100 GBA units in, there's 300,000 GBAs right there that likely sold on Friday (and I'm quite sure that many, many more stores got quite a bit more GBAs than we did...)

How about a game where you play as Ganon and try to take over Hyrule?

Well, just incase someone was following this thread and they don't happen to catch it, apparently a rep from Hori came and posted here - http://www.planetgamecube.com/forums/messageview.cfm?catid=3&threadid=11133&STARTPAGE=1

Yay!  Hori Digital Controllers for everyone (who wants to buy them for themselves, of course!)

Hot diggity!  Can I get a free one for all the promotion I've done for this bugger?

Anywhoo, seriously, I've already got one (Imported...) but I'll probably be picking up a second one - just because it's so darn cool.
I can't say I'm personally interested in the memory card, but I'm highly interested in seeing what else y'all bring to us here in the US.

Thank you tons and tons for bringing this dream controller to us.

>The rest of us knew from the get-go that the general public would regard a new Nintendo portable that can play GBA games as the next Gameboy.

Yeah, but as was mentioned above, the general public will probably regard the new Sony portable that doesn't play GBA games as the next GameBoy.  The general public isn't the brighest bunch of people.

>Yeah thats the system bios. I know in regular computers you cant add any type of additional programs to it

Actually, I suspect we'll be finding out that it's not the "BIOS", so to speak, but "Firmware" - Software that is written within the hardware.  And Firmware can be upgrated - if it was initially designed with that in mind.

A system "BIOS", if I'm correct, is also a type of Firmware.  In fact, an older computer I had actually had a BIOS upgrade come out shortly before Y2K to upgrade it so it would be Y2K Compliant.

So it's entierly feasible that NoA could release updates in the future (Via NiFi, WiFi or cartridges/cards that upgrade when they're played for the first time).

The thing that would make all of this interesting is to see what "hackers" could do to your system...  Just think, someone is downloading what they think is an illegal ROM of Mario's latest adventure, they start up their DS and *blammo* - a $150 paper weight.  And, of course, Nintendo wouldn't fix it....

Nintendo Gaming / RE: Which Bundle?
« on: November 28, 2004, 03:32:57 AM »
I'd go with the MK bundle.  It's a better value.
GCN w/ 1 Controller - $100
Metroid Prime - $20
Total Value - $120

GCN w/ 1 Controller - $100
Mario Kart - $50
Extra Controller - $20
Total Value $170

I thought everything now just used Nintendo's proprietary protocol (which I thought was technically different from the Wi-Fi abilitites)... maybe I don't know what I'm talking about (it happens a lot)
