Aside from one government owned network and its subsidiaries, 98% of the channels on my cable are owned and operated by companies which also have interests in internet, cable systems, and mobile phones. As a result, our regulatory body is a joke and any competition to this duopoly gets slapped down by a combination of internet capping and lack of content rights (read: Netflix).
