question about forums

Ok I noticed that o lot of posts have text that is covered up with black and I recently foudn out that if I highlight this text it becomes readable, so can anybody explaim to me why this is? Is it a problem with my web browser stting or a wierd trick i dont know about?

Type [ spoiler ] before and then [ /spoiler ] after any text you want to hide. Without the spaces, of course.
