Nintendo Gaming / RE:Price Cuts or Game Deals coming this fall
« on: August 05, 2003, 03:56:47 AM »
Nintendo cant keep the GBA and GBA-SP in stock at their current prices and they are not going to cut their console to the same price as a handheld.

Sony did make a price cut, but only to get rid of its old PS2 stock. Now they are still $200 but they have a modem or something included.

M$ is still probably losing money on XBox so I doubt that they would initiate another drop. Thoo they would probably match any drop made by the other two.

Bottom line is who the hell cares if they drop their prices. I already bought one at full price, so its not like I will get a refund check in the mail from Nintendo or M$.

TalkBack / RE:First Play of New Version of Mario Kart
« on: August 05, 2003, 03:41:50 AM »
Ya me too. I thought it was a new review, not a new playable version will be available (subject to change) later this month.

I'm more interested in hearing more about the Pacman game since it sounds really fun. I already know MKDD will kick as and be purchased at launch, so I dont care if they change it or not. Nintendo wont let me down.

Nintendo Gaming / RE:problems with framerate
« on: August 04, 2003, 06:44:09 AM »
I didnt have any slow down that I can remember on Metroid Prime. Zelda only slowed down when there were tons of enemies that I was bashing. Like in that one level where you drop into a hole and there is nothing there, light two torches and all of a sudden there are like 50 Keese (bats) attacking you.

If the game slows down with a lot going on I wouldnt worry too much. If it starts doing it when there is practically nothing happening then you might have a hardware problem.

TalkBack / RE:Nintendo Shuns Euro Imports Again
« on: August 04, 2003, 06:37:42 AM »
I personnaly dont import games, because I dont want to have to mess around with another language text. But if Nintendo released a game in say England and expected me to wait a year to get it in the US, they would be out of the flippin' minds. Why would I wait. Lets say people in the UK were playing Metroid Prime 2 right now, and I still had to wait 8 months, forget that.

Nintendo makes money nomatter where people buy the games from. I can see that it might hurt the sales if many people already have imports, but if people are willing to pay the import cost, plus shipping, then that should tell Nintendo to stop dragging their feet and release the games faster.

Nintendo is getting all high and mighty and telling their own fans that they cant buy games from them because they live in the wrong area.

Complete B.S.

General Gaming / RE:What exactly IS a game engine?
« on: August 03, 2003, 03:27:57 PM »
The engine can be defined as all the non-game specific technology. Think of a game engine like a car engine. The engine makes the car go, but doesnt tell you anything about what the car looks like. In fact you can use the same engine with many different car models that are all competely different. Now if you want the car to do more than it can with its specific engine, you would need a new engine.

So for example you can have a game engine for a FTS like doom or unreal and use it to make many different games with different artwork, computer AI, animation etc.

Or lets say Nintendo took the Zelda WW engine and changed all the characters and weapons, scenery to make a completely different (non-zelda) game. It would still be using the same engine, but would be completely different.

Hope that made sence.

Nintendo Gaming / Adapter to use GCN controller for N64?
« on: August 03, 2003, 01:23:47 PM »
I was wondering if there was an adapter out there to allow you to use a Gamecube controller on a Nintendo 64. My Nintendo 64 still has some games I like to play (Mario Kart, Mario Tennis, etc.) and most of my N64 controllers are on the fritz, plus I am really used to my GCN controller and like it much better.

If anyone knows if these exist please post a link.

Buy the Peilcan G3 Wireless

Thats the one I use. I like it 'cause you can turn the rumblr off, since some gams do not use it, and turn it on when you need it. The batteries seem to last forever.

Nintendo Gaming / RE:Zelda Series Time Line Explanation
« on: August 03, 2003, 09:55:39 AM »
The hero of time did exist. After defeating Ganon in OoT Zelda sent him back in time. the people still remebered him and built statues and told stories etc.

Also if he was transported to another dimension in Majora's Mask, how does Link have the Ocarina. Zelda kept it at the end of OoT.

He actually reduced his fee for more licensing rights. He knew he had something, I suppose.

Each Goron will trade you something different depending on what item you offer, but only one Goron will offer you a new item. Just make sure you get something new, if they offer you an item you already have go to another island.

If you put a flower in all 14 pots outside windfall you will get a piece of heart from the guy sitting on the bench.

Good games at launch are a good thing, well duh, it doesnt take a genious to figure that out. If all systems launch at the same time, then games will be a key feature. Games are what we all want. But the most important this is image. Look at the games that Nintendo has released, and they havnt even dented Sony's armor. Nintendo needs to advertize thier system and make everyone want to own one before they even see any of the games. Then release several games at launch, but only one or two flagship titles. A Mario game and Pokemon game would be enough, with several other new ideas. Then follow up the first year with a killer game every month or so (i.e. Zelda, Metroid, etc.)

But the bottom line is Nintendo needs to hype their machine. And Nintendo needs to fight back at Sony and M$. When Nintendo says that they can do 15 MPoly per sec (a real game number with real polys) and M$ says well we can do 100 MPoly they need to say, "well can you show us one of those"

When M$ says they have a 700ish processor and Nintendo is only 400 (or whatever it is) they need to say that their processor is completely different and runs at twice the speed, so it is actually faster (or much closer).

1 small question. Well when you get all the flowers for Zuni's shop, he gives you the magic armor and then he says that I should find more things for his shop. But what is there?

Keep trading the items for new items with the Gorons. There are three Gorons (Mother and Child, Greatfish, and Bomb Islands). Keep trading for new items and eventually you get a piece of heart.

Nintendo Gaming / RE:Why All The "Perfect 10's" These Days
« on: August 01, 2003, 01:17:44 PM »
DEfinately checkout several reviews, as one review may just be way of base. When I see a 10 I dont think perfect, but I do think "must own" just like moves, if a movie get all top reviews I will see it even if I have doubts.

I personnaly like IGN reviews. They seem to be pretty much on my same wavelength when it comes to judging games.

Nintendo Gaming / RE:Gamecube's memory usage
« on: August 01, 2003, 01:13:54 PM »
Some sports games take literally hundreds of blocks to save. I dont get it. There may be a lot of data, but you should be able to compress it better. I am not in to sports games that much, so it doesnt matter to be either way, but they shouldnt have to take up soo much memory.

O well, hopefully the GCN2 will have a small hard drive like the XBox so this wont be an issue anymore.

The NES games all come with a NES. If you drop each game it will have its own console. There are some universal codes for some of the NES games. Also you can set the clock to your birhday and you will get one as a present.

Nintendo Gaming / RE:Gamecube's memory usage
« on: August 01, 2003, 06:21:38 AM »
There is a 127 file limit for the GCN no matter the size of the card. You can only have 127 different files. Those files can use any amount of blocks. So if you have 127 games that use 10 blocks each you would need a card with 1270 blocks of data (8MB +) or if all you games were one block they could all fit on a 251 card.

Source

The 127 limit is a flaw in the GCN memory manager, there is nothing the memory card can do to increase this limit, however, I dont think anyone will use that many files unless you are taking tons of pictures in SSBM or something like that.

I have a 64 Mb (8MB) card and havnt had any problems. It has 1017 blocks and I have used up only a hundred or so. Most of my games (Nintendo First Party) take up <20 blocks. Pikmin is 19 and OoT is 15, MP is 1 (I dont know how that is possible), SSBM is 11 etc.

If you dont play lots of sports games then a 251 should be fine.

Nintendo Gaming / RE:The Next Zelda
« on: August 01, 2003, 04:15:30 AM »
A different Zelda game is one thing, but making a totally different game and just adding the Triforce and Link/Ganondorf as an afterthought is not a Zelda game.

Plus Link being evil and taking over the world wouldnt make since. He is the Hero (Duh!). Next it will be up to Ganon to save Hyrule because Link is even too evil for him...

The only thing they need to do for the next Zelda game is give us a different bad guy. Dont bring Ganon back too soon, let him sit at the bottom of the ocean for a few hundred years. Bring him back for a new Zelda game on the GCN2.

Nintendo Gaming / RE:Component Video Cable
« on: August 01, 2003, 04:08:45 AM »
I think Component is too expensive right now and it doesnt improve the quality that much. I use component for my DVD which gives crisp beutiful picture, and I use S-Video for my GCN, XBox, and Satalite and they also give beautiful crisp picture. I dont think that there is enough of a difference to make it worth worth the cost, just stick with S-Video.

Also I needed a switcher box since I only have 1 S-Video input. I got a 5 input switcher from Best Buy for $20. The switchers for Component are like $100.

The fairy is on northern fairy island, two squares north of Tingle island. Actually this fairy is the first one you should get since you can get it before you get bombs (needed for the Outset fairy). Anyways just head north and look for the island.
