Mortal Kombat Deception coming to cube!
« on: August 20, 2004, 02:31:07 PM »
i read today on Nintendojo.com that Midway is bringing Mortal Kombat Deception to the cube. They said that it will come out Q1 of 05 while on xbox and PS2 it comes out in October. But still this is good news for mortal kombat fans.

I thought the dojo collapsed or something... Oh well. Unimportant. I'd say this is good news but 1) I don't like MK and 2) Cube gets it later so it really isn't that great.

i'd like to hear a moderator confirm this though, since sometimes news like this is a little shady.

IGN has an article on it.  I mentioned it in a thread earlier as well.

Nice to know it's finally coming to GC.  But I wouldn't be surprised if sales will be low due to being released months later and Midway go all "we're not supporting GameCube anymore." O_o

Hopefully Midway will release all three versions in PAL lands at the same time, then. What with delays and such.
This is rad though, I got quite used to the GC controller with MK: DA. The PS2 controller would feel scary and wrong. Maybe a bit erotic.

Well, the original MK game's going to be in all three versions. Maybe they'll be rad and add the Game Boy versions for lol.

Maybe there will be a few Kollector's Editons or Premium Pak in a different name and carry the hefty 59.99 price tag as the PS2 Premium Pak and XBox Kollector's Editions do.  Maybe a resurgence of sales or Nintendo convinced Midway to bring back support? Hey maybe if were lucky we will see NARC also on the Gamecube.

Slow sales won't be due to it's later release date, if I own a PS2 or Xbox, why would I want the GC version even if it came out on time? So I can play with the inferior fighting controls the GC control provides? So I can play the offline version? So I can hook it up to the GBA I don't own and unlock MKIII? (Whoop-dee-doo!)

It's better than GC not getting it, but at this point does it matter?

This is something I've been thinking about for some time now... what's better, extra content or online support? Because think about it... with online, you log onto a server and you download extras into your Xbox hard drive. What's going to happen a few years down the road? What will happen when the server decides not to support your game? Then what will happen if your hard drive goes out, and all the extras you downloaded are wiped out? Won't you then be the one with the lesser version? In my eyes, extra content already in the game is a lot more permenant than online support.
I'm probably being a cynical bout this though... just rambling aimlessly I guess. I'll shut up now.

1)  Personal preference, my friend...I find the GC controller to be much easier to handle in fighting games...
2)  OMG ONLINE MORE LIKE ONRINE
3)  What? (MKIII is on Midway Classic Treasures 2, silly)

Yeah...I suppose several years down the road, the PS2 & Xbox version will be slightly lesser offline versions, but in the meantime you kind of have to agree with bonestormer.  I have a friend that was waiting for the game on the cube.  Then he heard it wasn't coming followed by the fact that it was going to be late and not online, so he is getting it for the PS2.  This here is practically a Nintendo loyalist, so most others probably made the decision earlier.
And a fighting game online seems sound, so it probably will be pretty fun.  Hell, I can't wait until Nintendo deems online gaming profitable enough to take Smash Bros. online.  Do I care that my copy of Smash Bros will eventually not work after several years?  In a word, no.

JoshNickerson like alot of people said time and time again EVERY ONLINE GAME HAS A EXPIRATION DATE, I also handle bloody roar: Primal fury and Soul Calibur 2 flawlessly on the GCN controler, if your still whining about the small D-pad go buy that Hori pad or a arcade stick.

Or stop being a biotch and adapt to the control stick.
"EVERY ONLINE GAME HAS A EXPIRATION DATE"
How often do you honestly go pack to play your NES and SNES or Genesis? Your PS1, your N64?  There are some people here who do play occasionally, but I bet those systems don't get as much play as the next-gen systems.  Pretty much every game has an expiration date, it just isn't so obvious.  Those who harp about how online gaming is impersonal and how they'd prefer to play with their friends can still do that with MK: D.  As long as the game can stand alone without their online extras, I'm fine with them going online.  The GCN version of MK: D proves that the game can (or better be able to) stand alone.

Not a good point...

"There are some people here who do play occasionally, but I bet those systems don't get as much play as the next-gen systems."

Namely because games are no longer coming out on those consoles...  If there are no new games coming out at the time, I almost always go back to my SNES and Gen more than my GC, PS2, and Xbox... Classics NEVER have an expiration date...EVER...

Only onrine titles and games by Eidos do...

"Namely because games are no longer coming out on those consoles..."
You're point is what exactly...If I recall the whole expiration date thing arose when Deugello said he picked up a Dreamcast game after the system was pretty much dead.  An online game that can stand alone doesn't 'expire' even when servers go down.
"I almost always go back to my SNES and Gen more than my GC, PS2, and Xbox... "
I have to give you credit for at least slipping the word almost in there.  I am curious now to know how many games you have for your next gen systems.
'Tis true about classics.  But most true classics were played to the point where most of the gameplay was memorized and playing is just for nostalgia.

"You're point is what exactly"

My point had nothing to do with the "expiration date" of onrine titles, but this: "Pretty much every game has an expiration date, it just isn't so obvious."  I was merely defending my classics...

As of my next-gen titles?  Errr, probably around 15 GC games, 4 PS2 games, and 2 Xbox games...

The part of my sentence "pretty much" accounts for the exceptions (classics), but I'll admit that wasn't as obvious as it could be.
Hey, hey they're everyone's classics.

Wait.

A port to the Cube actually gets extra characters?
