Well, Monster Hunter 3 is now the #1 best selling third party console game in Japan this generation, beating out MGS4 for the top spot.  So NOW can we have some real third party support up in this piece now that the ridiculous canard that third party games can't sell on Nintendo systems has been killed with extreme prejudice?

LOL Who am I kidding?  They'll probably call it a fluke or that Monster Hunter is now kiddy or casual or a non-game or "just wait till FFXIII's 2nd Full Price Demo Disc" or something like that.

You mean it even beat MGS4? Are you talking LTD or just the first few weeks of sales?

What were MGS4's numbers?

MGS4 is something to the tune of 680K-700K or something (dunno about the "Best Price" re-releases though).  Monster Hunter 3 almost beat that in one day and looks to be the first million selling third party console title this whole generation, three years into it.

Ya think maybe there could have been more if they, ya know... backed the market leader with quality software instead of trying to cash-in on the "casuals" and throw insults at Wii owners?

MGS4 sold 476,334 copies in the first four days on release in Japan.

MH3 beat that in 2 days.

Maybe this will change their tune? I mean, we already have DQX coming to Wii and a number of other promising efforts coming, like Crystal Bearers, which the creator reportedly views and the next true successor to the FF series. I'm hoping that devs were just really slow bringing them to market. They started dev late, so the games are coming late.

Here's a fun little tidbit from Sega that further debunks NPD numbers:

Quote
Wired.com: What about The Conduit?

Hayes: We actually regard The Conduit as a success. We shipped 300,000 units, sold through half of those and now it’s at the point where it’s selling consistently at a time when Wii sales are generally depressed in the marketplace. So what does that tell you? We still kind of don’t know.
http://www.wired.com/gamelife/2009/08/mike-hayes-interview/

So, the SHIPPED numbers for Conduit were 300k. That means the 150k number from a week or two ago must have been something else. ERGO, the 72k NPD number was off.*

*keeping in mind July sales.

You also gotta remember that SEGA didn't pay for the development of The Conduit, only the Publishing of it. If 150k sold makes for profit for Sega, then I can only hope the same is true for HVS.

But this does mean that it's very likely that Sega has already picked up publishing rights for The Grinder.

Nice to hear. Selling consistently means it could become known as one of the staple games everyone buys. I won't hold my breath for it going evergreen, but it could carry through the holidays at this rate.

The Nintendo Wii has outsold all other consoles in the UK by some margin so far this year, GamesIndustry.biz can reveal, notching up almost 800,000 units shifted since the beginning of January.

Meanwhile the DSi has now sold 370,000 units, giving it a faster rate of sale in the first four months than either the DS or the DS Lite.

The numbers, released to GamesIndustry.biz following an investigation into confusion previously caused by a GAME financial statement, also show the DS Lite at over 680,000 for 2009.

The issue arose following a re-evaluation by Chart-Track of its upweight - the estimate it makes to bridge the gap between the numbers it receives from its retail panel and the rest of the UK market.
