Yes. Midna is a character to be remembered for all time.

Anyways, I'm 50 hours into the game (haven't beaten it yet still!), and I think at this point I'd score it an 8.8. j/k

From the internet impressions I was expecting ridiculous (in a good way) dungeons that were grueling and torturous but with easy bosses, yet the game feels kinda easy all around. I think the remixed dungeons in OoT Master Quest provided a greater challenge, but that could've been my OoT memory conflicting with the new puzzle layouts. Either way it's still more of a challenge than Wind Waker, but I've only scratched my head in dungeons twice, and only once was it related to a puzzle (the other was skipping through a new weapons usage too quickly and not knowing how to use it). You learn all kinds of kickass sword tactics early, but many of them aren't even necessary to use until late in the game. Sworded enemies with better combat abilities should've appeared earlier in the game.

The storyline however, I feel is the most impressive of any Zelda game to date. The cinematics are absolutely outstanding. Old characters and locations are used in new and inventive ways, and new characters seem very well fleshed out and active. The people in from your village play a much larger role than I ever would've expected. I'm also very much enjoying the references to past Zelda games (unlike certain reviewers).

The gameplay is also IMO a flawless experience. I haven't experienced any problems with sword wielding/swinging in battle like some reviews have mentioned, and there are areas of the game that I can't imagine would be nearly as fun as they are without the wiimote, like horseback battles. The later dungeons are extremely cool and inventive in theme and design. Though HONESTLY I could do without a certain unexpected puzzle in a certain sacred place. Collectibles seem to be toeing the line of 'excessive', but it's not a dealbreaker for me.

Overall I'm very pleased, and I believe this is the perfect game for any OoT/MM fan looking for a spiritual successor to those games. I'm hoping Nintendo's next effort will be something completely original from top to bottom though, outside of a small few signature items (i.e Master Sword, Boomerang, etc.). 9.6 for me.

Nintendo Gaming / RE:Mii games you'd like to see
« on: November 22, 2006, 05:32:34 AM »
I'm not sure we'll be seeing any Mii use from Nintendo or otherwise in any hardcore gamer genres like FPS, unless a dev takes the Mii data and create some kinda replica with details more in-style with their game (which would be kinda cool). That aside, I want Mii pro wrestling! It wouldn't surprise me if some kinda Animal Crossing clone with Mii's isn't already in the works (besides this one anyways). An RPG with Mii's would be lovely as well.

Definitely easier than a cellphone, but I still find myself brain cramping on where the letters are since I'm used to an A-Z layout on video games instead of a keyboard (I have no speed problems on an actual keyboard).

Wow, my experience was exactly like this! Holding the remote strangely, dying 10 times on level 8, and thinking the music rocks as well. I was really bummed out about the control scheme SO MUCH that I almost want to return it, but I haven't tried the minigames yet.

It hasn't bothered me much, honestly. Well, the menu chimes from Monkey Ball annoy me when I'm flipping through the stages, but I just turn it down a little. Zelda has been OK with it IMO.

Currently in its vertical stand, though when I figure out where I wanna place it in my setup it might end up horizontal.

51300 - 51399 errors here. Wii picks up my router, but testing always fails. None of the online solutions have helped me at all.

What are S-video cables?

Wii cables are not compatible with the GC, and vice versa.

S-Video. Usually that with standard composite connectors attached.

Right now I can only afford the Wii, Twilight Princess, an extra controller and nunchuck, and component cables. I'll probably try and score two more sets of controllers/chucks and a couple games (Trauma Center and either Monkey Ball/Rayman/Wario Ware, whichever gets the better reviews) by Christmas. Nothing compelling on the VC yet so no need for Wii Points at this time.

And for the record, in the original and ongoing manga, Naraku is still on the run and the Shikon jewel is still not complete.

Nintendo Gaming / RE: Wii Media Blitz Tomorrow?
« on: November 10, 2006, 12:25:26 PM »
Some things I've learned watching the live feed:

-Monkey Ball looks like amazing multiplayer fun
-I had Excite Truck as my secondary launch purchase, but I'm bumping that down to a rental
-Wii Sports looks MUCH more fun than I anticipated; golf looks especially great
-Zelda is Zelda
-Must buy Charlie's Angels for GC before I die
-Either the Gamespot editors are good actors, or are the most uninformed professionals ever concerning anything Wii related
-Gotta make sure I keep quality batteries on hand for the remotes if they're gonna crap out that easily

Gamespot's live Wii marathon is going live in about 10-15 minutes from now.

EDIT: The feed has already started.

The show's premise practically begs for an RPG, but I don't have much faith in anyone pulling it off. Too many name brand cash-in games on portables.

This is the kind of video they send out to the press and studios and stuff, in order to use the footage as stock to get a visual reference on a (potential) Wii story. I've worked with a couple of them from GM, and they're always pretty straightforward, infomercial type material. I mean boring

Nintendo Gaming / RE: Favorite Zelda Moments
« on: November 06, 2006, 10:05:52 AM »
Could rank 'em, but just going off memory.

-Battle with Ganon in OoT.
-Battle with Gannondorf in WW.
-First walking into the castle-like area of Forest Temple in OoT.
-Boss fight in Forest Temple in OoT.
-ENTIRE Water Temple in OoT.
-Me and my friend topping each other's fishing records over the course of a week in OoT.
-First appearance of Shiek in OoT.
-Learning Gannondorf had a HOME TOWN and I actually got to GO THERE (Gerudo) in OoT.
-Fighting those giant armors in that desert temple in OoT.
-Seeing Hyrule frozen in time in WW.
-Learning the boss of a certain dark world dungeon in LttP was the person you lead to the boss room in the first place.
-That crazy castle dungeon in MM where you have to flip the whole place upside down and do the other side.
-Stealing from the shop in LA and being called Thief all game (and getting blasted to hell when you get caught).
-Parting ways with the forest chick who gives you the Ocarina in OoT (beautiful moment on the bridge).
-One of the Oracle games acknowledging I was playing the game on a GBA.
-Beating....one of the dungeons on Oracle of Ages (sorry, very hazy memory, but I was really happy I did it).

Contrary to the list, I have plenty more LttP moments, but they're all painful memories because I sucked pretty bad at the game.

Nintendo Gaming / RE: 50-70 hr quest too long?
« on: November 05, 2006, 02:17:59 AM »
I think the best news out of the 1up video interview was hearing that collectibles are kept to a minimum (and what's there will seem to have a huge payoff) and there being a vast amount of non-repetitive gameplay between each dungeon. Sounds like they've gone a long way to alleviate any fears of padding useless hours onto the game!

I don't recall seeing any screws to open the system, so maybe it's a shell/tray like thing you can pop off to open the Wii? The little hinge like things are probably feet for when the system is laying flat.

OH I REMEMBER the bug alright. Had nothing to do with PAL. And I never got my game replaced either. Everytime I attempted to go through story mode with any CAWs, the game would totally wipe out everyone, and mid-story mode you'd have a default looking character. Not a total dealbreaker for me since I never played with any of the regular characters and therefore the unlockables meant nothing to me, but not being able to play story mode with my characters hurt....
