128GB card size with almost 1GB a second in transfer speed. The SDmicro Future is almost here.

https://www.cnet.com/news/new-sd-card-uc-express-specs-tout-128tb-max-up-to-almost-1gb-per-sec/

Quote
The new "UC" spec extends the maximum capacity of either a full-size or micro SD card from 2TB to 128TB. And the "Express" spec increases the peak transfer speed of a full-size card from 624MB per second to 985MB per second.

I wasn't even aware that SD cards went up to 2TB
but to jump from that up to 128TB is absolutely ridiculous.

Last card I bought was a 200GB card for the switch, and that cost more than I wanted to pay for it.
I can only imagine what a 128TB card, and much less even a 2TB card must cost.
(Amazon doesn't even list 2TB cards... 512GB cards cost $300, 256GB right around $100)

Hopefully this means solid state prices drop hard and fast.
Switch will reap the benefit as they can hopefully eventually fit the 2TB Final Fantasy XX on a cart w/ practically 0 (zero) load times, No more 3rd party excuses.

And this makes me want to hold out for a new phone even more, as I want to be able to slip an upto 2TB SD card in it. and hopefully with solid state data prices dropping like a rock, my next phone can come with 512GB already on the phone, and I almost never have to worry about my phone running out of space again.

I thought 128 TB was a typo. Jebus, think of all the porn files you could hold with that much storage. We truly are living in the future.

Wow.

Hope they can get prices down. if 10 years from now you 128TB cost $15.99 we might be fighting robots.

1GB a second is also crazy. Think of the voxel worlds.

Of course.

Life 3rd parties always find a way

But we headed in the right direction. Death of the Disc Format was always the end goal, but a necessary side venture for progress.

If the price has came down enough this fall when we have cloud saves, I may try to jump from a 128gb to 256gb or better.

Saves are stored on the internal memory of the system, so upgrading cards has no effect on it. I had to redownload all my games, but once I did the saves were right there.
