all that tells me is that it will not look as good or run as smoothly could have if Nintendo had released better hardware. Half Life 2, Unreal Engine 3, and whatever else already have better graphics. Please don't argue with me unless you've watched the tech demos for both of those. Regardless of the graphics though, I am still looking forward to the next Zelda game a lot more than most other games (the graphics are amazing, especially considering the fact that it's on the Gamecube). All I'm saying is that it could still be better.

Guy, you're comparing Zelda to games which require hardware that a small margin of gamers actually have. Hardware that most gamers probably won't have for some years to come, this especially applies to Unreal 3. So, I guess I'm just trying to see your point; of course games are going to look better in years to come, but what has that to do with now?

The story is the only thing thast doesn't repeat every time you encounter an enemy...

No, it just repeats each game:

Oop, I'm a teenager with amazing powers.
Hey look, pretty girl with amazing powers and an as of yet unrevealed secret, which will dramatically affect the story.
Ahhh! some evil entity is threatening the world.
Ack! He destroyed my hometown.
Obligatory flirting and "deep" emotional connections between male and female characters.

I could add some more , but I think that will do.

Nintendo Gaming / RE: Game medium: CDs, cartridges, and the future.
« on: July 01, 2004, 11:52:59 AM »
Xts3, shut up. If you bothered to read anything in this thread you'd find that solid state media (cartridges) are becoming cost effective AND high capacity. And, aside from those two factors, carts are superior in every way, and once those factors are resolved carts are gonna hit you so hard it'll break yo mama's hip, son.

So, why don't you take your misinformed self to an XBox or PS2 forum where your ill-informed ramblings will be accepted as knowledge.

TalkBack / RE: EFF Challenging Nintendo Emulation Patent
« on: June 30, 2004, 10:26:24 PM »

Remember that technically, they're not arguing about the actual games, but rather, the process of reverse-engineering the hardware to make software-based emulators.

Right, but like I tried to say, reverse engineering should be about learning, there is no reason to release the product of that learning experience to the public. If these people who create emulators don't want to get in trouble, all they have to do is keep it to themselves, Nintendo isn't going to run around raiding peoples homes because it suspects them of emulator creation.

Quote

threatens reverse engineering of videogames to promote interoperability and emulation by hobbyists and entrepreneurs...

Same as above.

The only thing that is threatened is home-brewing games. However, homebrewers tend to be the type of people that can't focus on something long enough to make a game anyway; they constantly jump from one platform to another and just play around. Even in the off-chance someone completes a game and that that game is actually good, it is no more likely to be published if it runs on (insert console here.) Ultimately this means homebrew is little more than a fun distraction. It can also be a good learning experience, but most people rely on the work of others, so only a minority of dedicated people really gain anything from it.

Quote

Not only that, but even if one accepted the premise that software patents should be allowed, this one should probably be busted anyway -- Game Boy emulators have certainly been around since before Nintendo filed their patent.

I hate to say it, but I'm ashamed of the big 'N' for applying for the patent.

Than you either have no idea what you are talking about, or you are a thief.

I agree with Nintendo. The people who use emulation legally are the minority, the rest are stealing games. No one should have any problem since Nintendo can't stop what they do in their own homes, it is when they release to the public there is a problem and they should have no reason to release it.

General Gaming / RE: Will Fable be coming to PC?
« on: June 30, 2004, 05:06:58 PM »
It WAS looking brilliant. It has dulled somewhat since it was first announced. Still looks good, but I'm not hyped for it anymore.

Anyway, I've not seen any mention of a PC port. But I'm sure, like Halo, it'll get a port sooner or later. Microsoft will probably want it XB exclusive for a while.

Why would you want to restart on the GC?

I hope they aren't remakes, because I DID beat both of them and I want a new game

First, both of them suck.

Second, "Atari," as it is now, did nothing for game hardware, it is nothing more than a name now, nothing from the real Atari was really retained. Besides, I seem to remember Atari contributing to the gaming-market-crash. And I'm quite confident Nintendo and Sega would have made home consoles regardless of whether or not Atari ever existed.

Perhaps I should re-read the rules again, but I see nothing really wrong with talking about homebrew games, in fact I remember PGC running a story about OOT2d (oot2d.com) sometime back.

That is a PC game, not a GBA game.

Grey Ninja is the only one with GBA coding experience on this board.

Not the only one

Anyway, as has already been said, google will tell you everything you need to know.  I will say: You don't need re-writable carts or any of that jazz to homebrew. Which is just as well since it is money better saved, seeing your "game" on an actual GBA is little more than a novelty; it is fun, but ultimately useless.

C and Assembly. The basic rule-of-thumb is: if you don't know the answer to that question, you're not ready to program games. I mean you no offense, of course. Learn C well, and then worry about the GBA (but be prepared for Assembly as well).

It probably won't happen at all. Even game producers should realize how big a flop it would be. Just because it's labeled "Halo" doesn't mean we're all morons.

Thanks, and good, but I think I'll wait until the game comes out just so I know what I am buying.

I know with pre-orders this is a valid statement, but it still strikes me as humorous

This is good. So far I have nothing against the stylus but the previous setup for M:H made it incompatible lefties. It's no good to screw over 10% of your audience when there is a perfectly good dpad already on your system.

Lefties use the a, b, x, & y buttons to move.
