MadWorld aims to bring a more visceral, mature experience to Wii. From the outset it was designed to appeal to the western market and its defining feature is the over the top, comic book style fantasy violence. It stars Jack, a regular guy who has found himself caught up in the murderous game, Death Watch. In order to remain alive and learn the story behind Death Watch and its terrorist creators, The Organizers, Jack must master a variety of weapons and items to utterly decimate his competitors.

MadWorld will feature a unique graphical presentation that involves a palette of only three colors, black and white to represent the world and characters, and red to display the copious amounts of blood spewed by defeated enemies. As one might expect, the game is meant to be over-the-top, and will feature humorous commentating during gameplay as well as ridiculous bosses and minigames.

Jack's main weapon is a chainsaw and there are new weapons to pick up throughout the levels, as well as the possibility of using objects you find in the scenery as a weapon, such as tires and posts. Using environmental items and defeating enemies creatively will increase your combo and therefore your score, which becomes important for reasons that are as yet to be announced.

In Death Watch it's every man for himself, and enemies will not only try to defeat you, but also each other. Just as you, they will also use the scattered items to dispatch their foes. Finishing moves are accomplished with gestures, and instructions on-screen will tell you the actions such as shaking the remote and nunchuk or holding them together and then pulling them apart.

The style of levels is not limited to roaming around the city using your chainsaw to kill people. To get from one area to another, timed motorcycle sections give you the chance to fight and avoid being hit while racing. One of the end bosses has Jack running away from a tornado, jumping over cars and avoiding obstacles, giving more of a platforming feel to the game.

Around the levels there are mini-games scattered and hidden away, known as Blood Bath Challenges. These continue with the ultra-violent theme with one of the games having you swing the Wii Remote to throw as many enemies into a pit as possible before a bed of spikes comes down to crush them all. The high scores are saved in a table. These mini-games can be played in hotseat against friends.

MadWorld will be available from Platinum Games and Sega early next year in North America. As yet, it is unannounced for the Japanese market.
