Can I use my laptop to play Game Cube?
« on: May 17, 2004, 10:28:06 AM »
Hi:

I just got a gamecube and I really dont know a lot about cables. My friend is in ahospital and the television that they have cant be used to play gamecube, and they dont let to bring a tv.

I have a Dell Inspiron 1100, and i saw that it have a tv output, is that is the name. Is just a round cable receptor with 9 little holes.

I left my gamecube in my house and now im in the university, so i cant see if the av cable (thats the name of the 3-colors cable that I conect to the video of my house tv to play?) conects to my laptop. I already saw ebay to see is any adaptor says to be to used to play gamecube with the laptop... nothing.

I don't want to play gamecube games in my laptop. I want to use it as monitor.

Does it possible? If is, please write me what cables are necesary.

Here is the 1100 specs page

  http://www1.us.dell.com/content/products/productdetails.aspx/inspn_1100?c=us&cs=22&l=en&s=dfh

  Thanks!!!!

Nope, doesn't look like it.  I see no video input here.  You would have to buy a capture card for your laptop.

They might make a port replicator for the 1100 with the correct input.

You need a TV capture card.

You still need some sort of input, you don't have that.

Does the TV in the hospital have the old screw-on cable hook up? Like the NES/SNES had? They sell a converter in most stores that allows you to hook the GC up to the old cable jacks behind the TV.

Go to a PC storew, ask for a TV-in card. They'll explain. If there's no PC store available to you, you're pretty much screwed since I doubt general stores carry TV-in cards for laptops.
