US government wants to destroy your computer?
« on: June 17, 2003, 03:19:58 PM »
Nice to know tax dollars are being put to good use, and the taxpayers are being listened to.

http://story.news.yahoo.com/news?tmpl=story&u=/ap/20030617/ap_on_hi_te/downloading_music

If my computer gets destroyed for downloading some music that's sold at hugely inflated prices in stores, I am going to make sure that this guy can never use a computer again.

If the US government searches our computers without a warrant anyway it's illegal. Besides, how exactly do you tell the difference from an illegally downloaded MP3 and one that someone converted to from a CD they own?

According to "Bowling for Columbine", or whatever that crappy movie was, Canada is a lot better.  We are socialist.

The problem with democracy is that how well it works directly depends on the intelligence of the people in the country being ruled.  In the case of the US... well... look at your current president.    I've seen vibrating cups that are smarter than him.

How exactly are they going to damage one's computer?
Are they going to upload some system corrupting file to you?
Or are they going to detonate your comuter with some orgasmic bang?
Imagine this:

Some 10 year old kid's getting his first computer, and his friends are telling him that he can download songs without having to buy them. This little, innocent boy downloads WinMX/Napster/Mirc?whatever, and searches for a song. In awe at the list of downloadable songs, he picks one, then..
"Sorry, you are illegally downloading....The Wiggles: Dorothy the Dinosaur. We are now going to destroy this computer."

BANG!
Little boy dies from explosion, but the US government is not to blame, because it was his fault.

Haha. Imagine that!

Vibrating cups can handle foreign policy......damn, give me what your on.

If they were going to bring down computers they would start attaching virii to the files. They would also then realize that they would create a plague of virii, have broken 100s of federal offenses and only further pissed off a bunch of hackers.

Well, the U.S. government was instituted by smart people, but ever since the nineteenth century started it's been run by idiots (aside from a few exceptions).  So it sort of evens out in the end, I guess.

Government in general is dumb, and the only reason we even need it is because humans are so darned stupid.

ummm without government we would have no defenses from other contries and terrorists,
we would have no social security which would result in the elderly trying to work until the age they die thereby taking away jobs from teens and the middle aged.
We would have no medical coverage for those who cannot afford insurance, companies like Microsoft would be running monopolies illegally (even more so than they are now lol).  There would be no laws, and killing, raping, stealing, etc would run rampant.  The environment would be destroyed from private companies dumping waste, our roads and highways would be in terrible shape, we would have immigrants galore, etc, etc, etc.
Government is a god send... people need to stop bashing it.  It does a hellavu lot more good than bad.
and George W Bush is an excellent president, I don't feel so vulnerable to terrorists anymore

Social Security isn't free.  You pay for it with your own money. It's just our govenment's way of telling the people that they're too dumb to save the money for their retirements on their own.  Besides, by the time we're old enough for social security, they won't have enough for us, so I've heard, because our government doesn't know how to dispurse it back correctly either.

If being a an excellent president consists of lying to  your people and to the world to have your will done, and making sure that big businesses and the wealthy have even more money while poor people are forced to pay more for education and health care costs, then yes, Bush is an excellent president.

You complain that without government, the environment would be destroyed....hrmm, Bush just lightened pollution and waste laws and lightened restrictions, regulations, and standards for pollution producing factories and companies to "help the economy" while the federal government heavily edited and censored reports from the Environmental Protection Agency so the report would coincide with the current cabinets mind-set which is business, and not environmentally friendly.

So maybe you'd like to rethink the statement "Bush is an excellent president" just because you "don't feel so vulnerable to terrorists anymore."

When did I say social security is free??? I never said anything to that effect.
As far as our Govt. telling people that they're too dumb to save for retirement, have you ever thought that maybe some people can't afford to put money aside?  not everyone is as rich as you.

You saying Bush lied to the american people and the world is merely your opinion, there's nothing to back up that claim.
Did I say Bush was the reason why the environment is no longer being destroyed? No, I never said that.  I said without Govt. it would continually be destroyed.  (take a look at what Govt. has done within the last 30 years to combat destruction of the environment.)
And, it seems you only brought up a third of the issues regarding the Govt. that I listed, to debate my claim...
Yes I said Bush is an excellent president, but I didn't say just because I don't feel vulnerable to terrorists anymore.  I added that merely as some icing on the cake...

I thought there was something about no politics, but I'll give what I have to say anyway.

Which is nothing.  I frankly don't care about politics or the government, and arguing about it is useless.  I'm under eighteen, so I don't technically have to worry about all the crap, but I doubt my ideals will change when I have to pay my taxes, despite what they may be used for.  Politics is petty and really boring, so I just play video games.

Bush seems like an okay guy, and that's how I judge people; not by how well they do in the White House.  If that were the case, I'd be very unsure about a lot of people.

Well, if some people can't afford to put money aside, then why do they take it out of our checks in the first place? Yes, even poor people have social security taken out of their checks, so people not being able to afford puting money away is irrellavent.  And no, I'm NOT rich, therefore, I work, so I know the value of a dollar, and I know how much social security is taken out of my check every week, which is NON-REFUNDABLE until you retire or are killed then your children receive it, and you don't have the option for them not to take money out of your check for social security.  Bush did lie. Its been all over the news for the past week.  Where have you been?  They even lied about that whole Jessica Lynch, POW rescue. Did you know that there wasn't even iraqi forces at the hospital, and earlier that day, the hospital even gave them a master key to the hospital, so they could come and go as they please, but they were ordered to make it dramatic as if they were fighting for their lives, and they kicked in the door and other ridiculous occurances, just to dramatize the war, so there would be support for it.  Look up cnn.com, because I don't feel like making a link, and I'm sure you'll find more information on it and other things the excellent president has lied about as well.   So, yeah, that's not just my opinion, and there is plenty to back up that claim.

You said without govt. we'd have no social security, which I took as you meaning that Social security is some service the government supplies to us for free, but if that's not how you meant it, then consider my response to that, just an extra tidbit of info.

it was time for a change.
