Finding a new job is much easier if you are already employed, employers are less likely to hire you if you are unemployed.

Scheduling interviews and applications around your current work schedule can be a pain though if your full time, 9-5.

Go get em!

After you leave your employers office to tell him about your new job he just stands there alone in disbelief. He then throws a file out the window containing deeds and contracts that sign the whole business over to you.

As long as you ask for permission beforehand to leave i don't see the issue.

But i remember how i used my work phone to negotiate on my new work and printed out my resume on work printer. It felt kinda ironic.

I've been a "contractor" at my job for almost a year now.

Contract is up next month. Department has been in heavy fluctuation with no promise of a permanent position.

A competitor decided to have a job fair with the next logical step in my career path.
My Agency has left me without an agent for almost 5 months now, and they refuse to call me back for anything that isn't getting my time card in on time so that they also get paid.

I put in a semi-last minute request for the time off, but no one ever called me back to confirm or deny the claim, so I notified my on-site supervisor that I had personal stuff to take care of (he knew what it was and was encouraging) and then I left with no set time to be back other than when I was done.

The fucked up thing about all of this, is that a bunch of managers just left and so did out unit manager, so a new unit manager from a separate unit took over our unit too and moved into our old superiors office. Another person on our unit also planned on going to the job interview and put in a request with her agency to request time off....
when they asked her why, instead of saying "for personal matters" or anything generic and non-descript, she says

"I need some time off work tomorrow to go to a job fair"

Now the new boss man realizes that everyone is taking time off today to go get new jobs, and he ain't happy.
rumors start swirling around the office that if you are not at your desk, you may be up for termination....

Rumors were BS, and
TLDR:

I GOT A NEW JOB TODAY!!

Congrats. Here I thought you worked from home hence all your news digging for us (thank you by the way, it's always much appreciated, even the rumors), so I thought it was silly you "left early".

I was working from home for a while, and that was when I was heavy into updating the rumor mill, but you'll notice that near the beginning of the year and leading up to E3, my posting became more and more scarce, and then after E3 I hardly posted at all. that was because not only was I not working at home anymore, but I started getting tons of OT and didn't have time to post or stay updated with Nintendo news.

Expect this trend to continue with the new job. Someone else must pick up the slack ;)

I don't know about this, but I left work early one day just because I wanted to.  Back when I was hourly, I just went to the store manager, said "I'm tired, I'm taking a third and leaving early."  He said "You go!  I wish I could."  Then called me back into the office and talked to me about promoting. True story.
Just some random guy on the internet who has a different opinion of games than you.

It would have been funny if the rumours were true and you did get fired for going to the job interview.

"I know you went to that job fair.  You're fired!"

"Well what do I care?  I was going to quit today anyway because I got a new job."

"Uhhhh... **** you, you're fired!"

I was still MIA at the beginning of the year and slowly crept back into the forums. Sorry.

So what's your new job have you doing?

for one, an almost 50% increase in pay.
and two, the next logical step in career path I have chosen.... Home Mortgages.

I've done just about every job related to home mortgages on the front end and the back, but now I'm smack dab in the middle. I will be underwriting them loans.
