Pikmin was always rated high in Japan but it never sold all that well in any region. Both Pikmin GC games sold around the 1/2 million mark in Japan so you really can't expect high sales.

In fact RTS in general don't sell worth beans on consoles regardless of title.

Nintendo said it sold nearly 225k 3DS in June and was the best selling video game system in the US, up from 115k in May

The Wii U finally crosses the one million mark in Japan. Pikmin 3 holds on to the number 3 spot with a -69% drop from last week's sales. Mario & Luigi 4 barely misses the 100k mark in its first week.

And as expected, down go the Wii U & Pikmin 3 sales the week after it releases. Maybe Wonderful 101 will make that bump last two weeks. Nice start for Mario & Luigi 4, though less than you'd expect for being a Mario handheld RPG.

Agree.
Most of the market that would want Luigi would own NSMBU so it just make sense to get it digitally while its the new Hotness. Part of the reason Nintendo wasn't original going to press discs.

Yeah the whole point of even giving New Super Luigi a disk was to try and get a few extra sales from people who don't have online in their homes. I'd say Nintendo is probably happy with the physical copy sales since it's an extra 37k that now have the game that probably wouldn't have been able to get it digitally before.

Yeah, I don't think you can judge Luigi U's sales by the physical version. If you owned NSMBU (and most Wii U owners do), there's no reason to pay more for the physical version. The game probably did very well digitally.

Well according to this report from Nintendo in April, 80% of Wii U owners are connected to the internet.

So if 80% of the Wii U userbase is online, I'd imagine Luigi's sales probably have similar percentage with digital making up 80% of them while physical only 20%.

The latest Phoenix Wright game has a very nice first week at the top spot. Dragon's Crown for the PS3 and PSV and The Witch and the Hundred Knights for PS3 follow in the top 4. Fantasy Life: Link!, an updated version of the 3DS game, is ahead of Lego City Undercover for the Wii U.

Does anyone know how well previous Mario and Luigi games sold in Japan? Those numbers for Dream Team seem a little low to me, though I don't know what the early numbers were for the previous games.

For Dream Team, Famitsu's first week sales were 108k. So it looks like it's on track to perform like the first 2 games did, but probably won't reach the heights Bowsers Inside Story did unless it has some amazing legs.

Some Disney game I never heard of sells 119k+ and lifts 3DS sales with it. Pikmin 3 and Wii U sales dip down. Killer is Dead, Suda51's latest game, places 5th in its first week with 17k units sold.

Disney stays on top while a new One Piece game for 3DS doesn't manage to top Mario and Luigi 4. Ah, apparently the new 3DS game is a port of a PSP game.
