Nintendo Gaming / RE:XIII
« on: June 27, 2004, 01:20:54 PM »
Apologies, but I played the Xbox version. Loved it. Underrated indeed. Goes straight into the list of underrated games from Ubisoft (along with PoP and BG&E and some other titles which I can't remember at the moment)

Thought the question should be: how soon after the release of this N-Gage before Nokia comes out with another newer, 'better' N-Gage? They churn out new phones like nobody's business and I seem to detect the same trend (yeah, a trend with 2 phones ) with the N-Gage.

I don't see the difference between this thread and the other thread started by the same person about not having enough mature rated games on GC. Redundant?

Nintendo Gaming / RE:Violence on the GCN...it's not seen enough!
« on: April 08, 2004, 08:20:32 PM »
I don't see why the hang up over it's color. I'm 27 and absolutely love my Indigo GC. Spice is wicked too. Black/Silver is such a boring and dull color. Then again, maybe cos I'm Asian (Chinese if you may)

Have you guys seen the Limited Edition Gamecubes available over in Japan? There's the White FF: CC, the Red Char Aznable, the Green one (forgot the theme), and recently, a gray MGS: TT. I believe there's still more.

I don't see what's the big deal about violent or mature games anyway. Unless you're one who gets a thrill out of breaking the 'rules' by buying/playing a mature game when you're still a minor.

But anyway, don't go red-eyed. Just go get a Xbox or a PS2 to complement your Gamecube then.

Nintendo Gaming / Gamecube Online
« on: March 27, 2004, 03:12:36 AM »
Firstly, I would like to apologise if this has already been posted somewhere else, but I didn't see it anywhere. And also if I'm breaking any rules here...

Anyway, Nintendojo has some scan of a magazine in France which spoke of Gamecube Online. See the scans here and here.

Similar images here.

Everyone wants Gamecube to support online gaming, but the Japanese company firmly refused to appease players and only allowed local area network gaming. Analysts thus predicted a death sentece, but with the success of Playstation Online, could you really blame them for predicting this? However, perhaps in part to spur sales of the GC, Nintendo is ready to show off their new plans at E3... ahead of the presentation of their new portable.

Nintendo of America is creating an online service to use with the broadband adapter. Not having any real experience in the networking field, they made an agreement with Gamespy which has many years experience in centralized servers used to join players for games on the Internet. Logitech, an unexpected 3rd player in this venture, will supplement the accessories used for communication. The result of this surprising triple alliance has been seen before with Xbox Live!...and it will have some things similar to Xbox Live.

The headset is like the Wavebird in that it is free from wires. The options are very close to Microsoft's service...it will be possible to have a list of friends, take part in vocal chats, or look up player's records. Some things are different from Microsoft's service. A large asset to Nintendo's online servce (which doesn't have an official name yet) will be the ability to play current LAN anabled games via <Tunneling> (well known to do-it-yourself'ers). This will give developers a way to offer an online mode for a lower cost and it would seem that Ubi Soft will be the first to use this online mode with the next Rainbow 6 and Splinter Cell Pandora Tomorrow. There is a slight possibility that you could use the GBA Player with this service as well. It would be then possible to simulate a GBA-link and play on the internet...practical for Pokemon games.

It's odd that Nintendo seems to have changed their opinion suddenly, especially since the Gamecube is near the end of its life and the N5 being around the corner. Perhaps this service will play a larger role for future generations? In any case, people will greet the effort of this new service. We will, however, need to wait until E3 to see the definitive version on Nintendo online....to know the pricing policy and especially if there are Killer Apps for the service on the way (Pokemon Online has been a rumor that keeps popping up, and Mario 128 could be a candidate).

As always in this kind of situation, I will quote my friend Clara Morgane: "Wet and Sex."

At the time of DICE, Nintendo has led us to think that online is not in their agenda, but we announce a change pre-E3. Is it still time for a revolution?

A simple interface, but functional.

Will Zelda Four Swords be playable online? A mystery.

The Logitech headset is ergonomic and it's undeniable that it will be wireless

Mario Kart Double Dash!! will finally leave the ghetto(?) that are LAN parties!

"Ubi Soft doesn't seem to be the only company ready to support Nintendo online. A young company called Level of Detail will have an 4-player adventure game in the same vein as FF:CC but with real-time combat. Watch out Zelda-4 Swords!"

I'd just like to know if it's a very good hoax or is it an extremely good news for all Cube gamers?

General Gaming / RE:iQue
« on: November 29, 2003, 03:11:03 PM »
Not sure about you folks, but iQue has and always been targeted for the China market. Believe it's equivalent elsewhere in the world would be the N64. Also believe that they are the first among console gaming companys' foray into the Chinese market. You can try importing it but well... it's all in Chinese but if you understand kanji in Japanese versions, you should be able to understand about 30% of the words.

All the gaming powers are rather eager to tap into the Chinese market because of the potential there (and of course, the high population as well. It's always believed that if all the Chinese spit at the same time, they'll drown the world ). Besides, there's currently little or no console gaming presence there. Microsoft has working on that a few years ago (with the Asian version of games) and Sony only recently realised China's potential as well and they started making versions of the PS2 to cater to them.

So I think Nintendo is actually ahead of the race there by launching the iQue before the others. I think it's just to gain a foothold there first.

You get that when you press and hold 'A' in the screen before Lakitu comes out (the Nintendo screen I believe).

Nintendo Gaming / RE:Zelda Bonus Disc....?
« on: November 20, 2003, 08:12:14 PM »
Tell me about it. I'm in Singapore, the closest region is either PAL Australian (usually slow games release) or NTSC Japanese (don't understand nuts about it). So I'm playing on an NTSU American Cube. I'm planning to get Mario Party 5, Mario Kart and Mario & Luigi Super Saga... But since I'm not in America, I can't get the Zelda disk!

Can Cubes of different regions connect together to play the same game? E.g Using my American Cube with the American Kirby's Air Ride to play with my friend who is playing off a Japanese Cube with a Japanese Kirby's Air Ride?

Nintendo Gaming / RE:Broadband Adapter in Australia???
« on: November 15, 2003, 01:50:46 PM »
Yup. Hardware peripherals do not have region coding (even the GB Player but that needs the region coded boot disk). I'm living in Singapore, playing on an American Cube and using a Japanese BBA, controllers and memory cards. Try importing Japanese peripherals if you are in Australia. Much cheaper than importing them from the States.

Nintendo Gaming / RE:Gameboy Cube? N5?
« on: November 09, 2003, 06:05:20 PM »
I have mixed feelings about it. Gamecube uses a disk for games. Disks means that there has to be some kind of anti-shock mechanism in place or you can forget about it being a handheld. Yes, the PSP's UMD is a disk too, but it has a cartridge-like housing, much alike the MD. Please such anti-shock mechanisms means needing memory, and memory would compromise the handheld size.

Go see a shrink. No one's going to give you therapy online.

Think it's better off for your Cube being dead considering your state of mind.

Nintendo Gaming / RE:GAMECUBE is 1990s technology

I don't care if it's last century's technology. Whatever it is, it gets the job done, I'm enjoying my games, and I'm sure I'll continue to enjoy the games that will come out until the next generation Nintendo kicks in.

If I run Nintendo, I'd sue all those fanboys who think they know how Nintendo should be ran.

Do you know what happens when fanboys-who-think-they-can-run-Nintendo-better start a company? They call themselves Infinium Labs and come up with something called The Phantom

Yep. I agree with Ian Sane. You play games, just because you want to be entertained. Why care about the racial representations? I'm a Chinese myself and you don't see me complaining. Besides, would you go complain to Nintendo on why Link isn't black? Or why Samus isn't Chinese? Or why Starfox uses a fox as it's main character, why not Stareagle instead?

People just dont want to accept facts, thats up to them but the truth is Nintendo is not the master of games as it used to be. People are very disapointed in the GameCube.
So what if Nintendo is shipping less units than PS2 or Xbox? For every 10 units that Xbox sells, Gamecube only needs to sell 1 or 2 for the same profits. That's if Xbox is rolling in profits for MS. People are disappointed in the Gamecube? Guess 'people' means you cos I ain't disappointed in it.

Nintendo Gaming / New article on Nintendo´s future! Must-read!!!
« on: July 05, 2003, 03:21:11 PM »
Lecter, no one is saying that the N sider writer is totally wrong. They did admit that some points are valid. They're just saying that he takes too many too different stands while he's bashing N. I mean, they bashed Nintendo for not being creative, then bashed them about for being too creative... I mean ain't that slapping himself?

Nintendo knows when it needs to evolve, not us. Besides, different companies employ different stretegies and policies. For Sony, it's 3rd company support. For MS, it's buying over the competition. For Nintendo, maybe they're more comfortable with making their own games. They're doing fine right now, so why do they need to mimick Sony's stretegies?

But no doubt, having more 3rd party support will definitely improve Nintendo's popularity. But seeing the number of crap games which are out for PS2, I'm not sure...

C'mon. Have you gone over toe lik-sang's webby to check it out? It's not a handheld. It portable in the sense that you can mount it on your car and drive it wherever you want, and play it on the car. It doesn't even support alkaline batteries unless you wanna lug a car battery around.

For those who thought the English sounded funny, it's because the original page is actually in Japanese. But Excite page converts the contents to English (as best as it could anyway).

Anyway, another possible ***SPOILER*** on another unlockable character. Again, it's from those Chinese forums.

Sorry, the above links points to some Chinese gaming forums... But guess the pictures in it can tell the story.

Nintendo Gaming / Question about Nintendo and MS
« on: June 26, 2003, 09:31:50 PM »
Like Grey Ninja, I'd rather MS go back where they belong. Should there ever be a partnership, I expect MS would be the ones down the road to start making demands of Nintendo, perhaps even a hostile takeover. Then MS would start licensing everything since they have the larger market share of the gaming industry then.

Besides, I always welcome competition in the gaming industry. It keeps the companies on their toes to churn out better and cheaper stuff.
