TalkBack / Re: Top 10 Wii U Games: Year One
« on: December 09, 2013, 10:47:52 AM »
Lol..I think included eshop I have more than 10 games now.  I think ZombiU should be higher...especially with the bug fix.  So here is my top 5.

5) Nano Assault Neo.  Very fun twin stick shooter.  It's a throw back to the mid 2000s but an enjoyable one.
4) Pikmin 3.  Wonderful co-op and multiplayer.  Too bad its not online.  The single player is pretty fun too.  The only one I completed and 100%ed.
3) ZombiU.  Brilliant use of the system features.  Excellent roguelike qualities and atmosphere.  I don't even like zombies and I love this game.  The multiplayer is really good too.  Again should have had online.
2) SM3DWorld.  Amazing.  It's a great step up from 3D land.  Collecting green stars is actually fun and not tedious.  3D multiplayer.  Still not on par with the 64-Galaxy 2 vein though.
1) TLofZ: WW  One of the best Zeldas made even better.  Fast sail makes exploration as brilliant as it should have been.  My only complaint is the tri force hunt is still not streamlined enough and the dungeons could be gharder.

I was really happy to hear Jose Otero on the show.  He's done a great job with NVC and IGN Nintendo.  I also really liked him on 1up before it closed.  I hope you guys can get him on the show as a guest in the future.  Couldn't catch it live....but glad to hear it piecemeal.

Nintendo Gaming / Re: NWR Forums Top 10 Zelda Games
« on: October 09, 2013, 12:50:17 PM »
I"m going

1) Ocarina of Time
2) Windwaker
3) Twilight Princess
4) Spirit Tracks (apparently no one loves this one as much as me)
5) The Legend of Zelda
6) Link's Awakening
7) Skyward Sword  (How people like this more than TP blows my mind)
8) Majora's Mask
9) Oracle of Seasons
10) LttP (Most overrated in the series IMHO)

I've barely played II, Ages, or Minish Cap.  I really didn't care for Phantom Hourglass.  And I never played 4 swords outside the GBA version.

Podcast Discussion / Re: RFN RetroActive #28: Pandora's Tower
« on: August 21, 2013, 08:58:06 AM »
I emailed RFN but my thoughts were fairly positive:

I loved this game.  I know it has its flaws but I absolutely loved it.  Picked it up back in May to complete my rainfall trilogy.  Just want to thank those guys for helping bring some of my most played Wii game to the US!!!

 So the reason I loved this game are as follows;

 1) The non-intrusive motion controls.  The pointer worked fine.
 2) The awesome puzzle driven Zelda-esque dungeons.
 3) The boss fights were amazing.  They required a lot of thought and were riveting every time.  Several I just barely made it and the emotional pay off for that was amazing.
 4) The grim story.  Minor Spoiler  I particularly liked how I got the 2nd to best ending and it was still bleak and melodramatic.
 5) The girl really managed to be a sympathetic and real character for me.  Coming back to her half transformed was always frustrating.  I rushed through dungeons and frequently returned to avoid seeing her as such.  Too bad Aeron was boring and lifeless.

The game has its problems.  Notably the reused dungeon themes.  And the final dungeon glitch was a bummer because it was a great set of puzzles.  I however used a let's play to walk me through it to avoid the bug.  Wish I didn't have to.

Overall I found the game a fusion of melodrama and Zelda that I couldn't help but love. The atmosphere just spoke to me.  Everything was calculatingly dark. I feel that anyone who likes Zelda and owns a Wii owes it to themselves to spend the $20 on this.

I really liked Pandora's Tower when I played through it in May.  I wanted to hear people talk about it.  It's got my vote.

I picked this up and played 15 minutes.  Got the Ghibli vibe.  I need to get back to it.  I have a soft spot for pre-rendered backgrounds.  I hope the 3DS gets more adventure games.  Got this and Damrey.

I really liked this game.  Favorite WiiU game.  I can only hope Nintendo decides to moneyhat a sequel.

I would love to Senko no Ronde on 3DS.  I never played the 2nd cause it was region locked.  Loved the first.

TalkBack / Re: Pandora's Tower Receives a Price Drop in America
« on: June 26, 2013, 09:17:53 AM »
I loved this game.  The dungeons were really cool.  Paid full price.  If you like Zelda its worth getting for $30.  Honestly I'm excited for these guys to do a WiiU game.  The bug sucks though.  I just watched a lets play of the dungeon and used the work around.  Idk..I'm really fond of this game.  The morbid plot, the dungeon design, the boss fights it was really fun.  I can't recommend it enough.

Naturally I'd prefer a physical release.  But I love Ikaruga and G.Rev so I'm there day one.  Any word on price point?  I'm hoping $10 but guessing $30.

I'm so there if this comes stateside.  Loved 2 1/2.  First one was decent.

65
Dyack means this will be a hilarious train wreck...

66
I dloaded it and it says I can play for free 3 times a day.  It seems like single-player is entirely locked out behind a paywall?  Is multi-player available in the free.  I'm confused.

67
I'm dloading it just so I have something to play on my WiiU.

Yeah I'm picking this up for 2 reasons.  Spite NOA and cause my GF is a veggie.  So this game brings me some kind of sinister enjoyment.  :P:   Plus it just looks awesome even if its flawed.  Looking forward to proudly having all 3 in the op rainfall trilogy.

I'm really excited for this.  Moon was one of my favorite DS games.  I hope this is a full retail game but I doubt it.  I'll definitely have to get this.

I prefer 2 to 1 by leaps and bounds.  But that's mostly because of the multiplayer which 3 has.
